MU Online on Linux

MU Online on Linux is easy, this guide is for Ubuntu Edgy 6.10, but you can easily play on any distro.

Things we are going to install:
- WINE (To run the .exe's)
- IEs4Linux (Internet Explorer and TTF for WINE)
- MU Online (Duh!)


STEP 1: Installing WINE

In your internet browser, go to
WineHQ .deb packages archive
and download the latest version of wine for Ubuntu. (Other distros can download WINE from here.

Simply download it and run it, it should install without too many hassles.

STEP 2: Installing IEs4Linux
Open up terminal, and type the following commands:

wget http://www.tatanka.com.br/ies4linux/downloads/ies4linux-latest.tar.gz
tar zxvf ies4linux-latest.tar.gz
cd ies4linux-*
./ies4linux

---

This will install it, should work for any distro :). Do all the default options.

STEP 3: Installing MU Online
Download the client for MU Online, for the server I was testing on (FrogMU), the client is the official (Global MU Online - Free Software Downloads and Software Reviews - Download.com.

When the download is complete, load up terminal and change directory to where you downloaded and simply type in:

For example:

wine muinstall.exe

Do all the default options, easiest way is to install to C:\mu

STEP 4: Patching
Download the patch for the server, especially the launcher. Extract over the client.

STEP 5: Playing
In terminal, type in (one line at a time):

cd ~
cd .wine/drive_c/mu
wine launcher.exe

---

Then the launcher should load, click connect. You can now play MU! Great job!

edit: i try to run mu from knoppix live cd
i will tell if if its possible after tests

edit> stack at > Your wine does not have wineprefixcreate installed. Maybe you are running an old Wine version. Try to update it to the latest version.

after reinstalling my ubuntu 6.06 i get an OLE 8004... error... enybody know how to fix?

i am pretty new with linux so i will need some more help
i install wine and upd it but when i try step 2 i stuck on the last move
when i write ./ies4linux to the terminal it says

IEs4Linux 2 is developed to be used with recent Wine versions (0.9.x). It seems that you are using an old version. It's recommended that you update your wine to the latest version (Go to: winehq.com).

You need to install cabextract first!

to bad the mu online developers dont compile the servers for linux :) + MYSQL (FREE-FAST-OS INDEPENDENT)

if u don't have launcher just simply type open folder with game in terminal
