Awebs Gunz Launcher

Hello, here is my own launcher ! It is easy-to-use and configurable with a Launcher.ini file.

A good documentation is includeD. you'll see it's easy-to-use ;)

The current version of the launcher is V2 ! Update yours !

Features :
- Official uppater look'n'feel
- Cand isplay news and update info loaded froma website
- Updates local files based on a file list on a website
- Can change server's ip and port
- You can now customize the messages displayed by the launcher !

But does it download ever file even if it doesn't need to be updated?

'Cause it downloaded the PDFs each time I ran it even though I already had them.

You're supposed to edit it to download the files you want it to.

The problem is, it downloads the files even if they're already updated.

It's normal. The update file it uses to test DOES NOT CHANGES THE VERSION (for test use when I was programming) !
Look at it : you will see NewVersion=1 in it and the launcher's is already 1so it will not change the version and it will update every time.

On your update files, just make it change version and it will work !

(Even if you have no updates to do, make an update file wich keeps the current version and downloads no file).

No need of a file check if you change the version in the NewVersion value of your update file to the current one + 1. Maybe the documentation was not clear about this. I'll try to change it.

EDIT: Source code will be given when I will be sure it's the last version. Maybe I will add some functions to it.

but is there a manual that explains how to configure the path to the news/events and the path to the update files? or do I need to open it in some program or something and change it with C or C++ or whatever....?

You can configure both URLs, its explained on the documentation (part : Configuring the Launcher).

The ones currently used were for test, I forgot to delete tham because I'll use 'em for my server :)

btw I got an idea for updating (to let it skip all the downloads again everytime u start)

lets say u call ur update: update1.ini

let it automatically go to update0.ini when its done updating.
in this ~0.ini it will say there are 0 files to download (so it wont download any updates when u start it)

then when you have a new update, re-upload the update0.ini but then with the new update-file info and let it go to update2.ini and do the same.

I dont know if it works since the whole program.....*cough* doesnt works....

It *cough* works. I used a previous version of it for my Lunentia server.

I did it for me, thats why you may not understand how it works. I'm sorry for this, thats why I made a documentation.

Just make an empty file if you don't have anything to update. And don't forget to change the launcher's version each time.

Edit : for your own information, I don't want you die stupid, FileList.ini is the name of the downloaded filelist. It is deleted when closing the launcher/starting the game.

Thanks but wait a bit for the next version. It will have the filelist delete bug fixed and a way to edit all the strings used to allow you to translate the launcher :)

I was just wondering, could you change the function for the name of the exe it looks for? I don't have mine named as Gunz.exe, I named it the name of the server.

Also, it would be cool if you decide to release the source so we can customize it a bit as far as aesthetics go.

To customize it you can use PE Editor because I wont release the source before I'm sure everything will be fixed.

I got a small problem. If I want to run the update twice (for let's say, updating system.mrs multiple times), I get the following error:

It works like a charm here. The only problem I have now is that I get a Runtime error when trying to click "Start Game"

It doesn'"t uses client exe for starting game.. Sorry i forgot that I'm sorry ;)

Fixed now. Downlaod another time. Another bug fixed (look at changelog).

Nope => I can. But you know sometimes i don't think about some bugs. It's human ;)

Last important fix update I think.

The next version will allow you to display any picture you want instead of the default one; or a webpage.

If you don't like it, don't use it.

It took me a lot of time to make it and fix it. I did it for free and there isnt any big ugly copyright.

For the text color I tryed my best. You can only choose between 32 colors and its a bit hard to choose the best one. White was the best for this background.

For the 'watermark' as you said, I am not a graphist. You don't like, it's your right. But I won't excuse myself for this.

In the enxt version you will be able to change a lot of new parameters. I do it for free and I have much school work to do so it may not arrive this weekend but I'll do it as fast as I can.

For the source, it's the last time I say it : It won't be given until I add all the features I want. And with the new parameters I even don't think you will need it to customize the launcher. I commented all the code in french so I'll have to translate all these comments too.
You can be sure the source will be released, I like open source. But only when everything will be finished :)

lutchius, why don't you try adding me to MSN, I'll show you my proof. My MSN is support@curse-x.com, and my comment was not "moronic", its stating the truth. Launchers, especially using VB, are basic and dummy proof, but yet he seemed to break the dummy proof part of it.

Koushukei => VB is not the best language but when you know it you can make interresting things... (but not multiplatform and thats its disavantage).

For the texts, I'm sorry it's hard to find the right color. Gonna try and uplaod a new version since I'll find the right one.

I tried Resource Hacker so I could change the background and stuff, and it didn't detect the background. Only the icon and the credits.

I guess I'll try a different editor.

Yes you have to use PE Explorer because VB stores the images a different way.
With PE explorer you will also be able to modify the text's font, site, color, position...

ok i read the tut when you said its not a bug when the launcher updates the same files over and over again, if you don't make it change the version type that it becomes after update.

well i changed the file and it still downloads the same files, here is what is inside my

Ok you guys are not getting this:
When it updates it looks for the version #'s .ini EG 2 looks for 2.ini.
To make it not update after one try do this:
Make a new version it updates to in the 2.ini like 2.1
add a 2.1 ini and set #of files to download 0
Then after the downloads in 2 it SHOULD change to 2.1 and NOT DOWNLOAD.

What program do I use to edit this? I tried VB Studio 2005 and it gives me an error when I try to build it.
