how can mangos realm work when the computer is off?
how can mangos realm work when the computer is off?
Simple.
Copy the server files other to another pc, and connect it to a lan network.
If you have a router then the interent feed will be given to the pc thats on the network, even if your not.
And if you have a cable modem, then connect the other pc hosting the server the main net feed.
this way your computer does not have to be on to serve the game.
Now i will get an infiction .
LOL Realmd and Mangosd are programs that only run when your computer is on ;)
If you dont even cnow that then i sugest that you trash your comp and get an other live ;)
Well if he has only 1 pc, then this is funny stuff indeed. But if he has 2 pc's then it's rather simple.
Oh, and slight topic change, but:
This is a prime example of what mods should be cleaning up, seriously this is getting beyond a damn joke.
And I see myself leaving RZ real soon..
im so tempted..
*bites tongue*...
nah.. serious...
everyone might learn sumthing here...
with WoW emulation in general...
both the REALMD.exe + MANGOS.exe
have to to running constantly...
as to allow the client to connect to them....
there technical term is called a daemon...
[srouce from ]Daemon & - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
"is a computer program that runs in the background, rather than under the direct control of a user."
which translated... a simple server..
and each one is its own server...
the REALMD.exe is the "login" server...
while its running you can only login...
and if you try to find a "realm" or "game server"...
it will throw u back to the realm selection screen...
his counter part, MANGOS.exe is the "game server"...
while this baby is running your players can choose that "realm"..
and create a character... and then get into the WoW world...
anything i've missed?..
I have tryed that ann few time ryu But could help myself come back here evfry time ;) So i dont think you can as well .
Ok back on topic he asked how it can be runned when comp is OFF .
IT CANT . all programs need your computer turned on to run them not only mangos but all of them .
I guess I should be saying here "ok, sorry for what I said, I was a little anoyed at his stupidity"
But bollocks to that, thats not me. And this would not be happening if the damn mods would be doing thier jobs.
Ow people i think we need to apoligize here . IT CAN BE DONE ;)
Realy just heard it . I will get the article soon that says it . If you got the right modem or got some technical skills you need to do some serious building to your modem . As soon as i have the article of it i will translate it for ya ;)
But it seems that you can do it when your moem suport it .
OMG! XD *stiffles back tears from laughing too hard* Holy shit, dude! Do you know ANYTHING about computers? How the HELL do you think you're gonna run ANYTHING if you're computer itself is not running? :punch: Seriously, I'm surprised you even know how to turn your damn computer on...
OMG WTF what's that noob :O
ROFLMAO WTF that guy thinks he can run a program while his computer is off. xD
Such things may kill ppl XD it must be age rated XD
One small thingy i did find out when my sisters baby was on my pc she turned my pc in sleep mode :) :) :) and it does still run
maybe thats a idea for him :P
Lol you guys crack me up, i was lured to this thread by simple curisoty (ie: wtf ) and i am going away laughing...isn t life grand ;) lol.
thanks for tears ;)
People your all laughing now ;) But let me tell you it can be done . It only need an good technical persone to rebuild your modem ;) I will post 3 pictures soon they are in dutch but let me tell you that it can be done ;) You need to flash the flashmemory of your modem also and some mayor work inside to pull it of you need to make an usb port on your modem where you then can put an hdd on then flash the memory of your modem with an program that call on your hdd and let start the mangosd.exe and the realmd.exe and wholla you can turn of your comp and have an nice server that fuits in an lunchbox ;)
I will post oictured guild soon ;)
Yeah, but I don't think that a modem is capable of running MySQL, and where is the needed ram for the mangosd.exe and realm.exe? Unless you've got some supermodem that's basically a miniature computer, I don't think it's possible. I would love to see these pictures, though, and maybe a translated website.
Well for he ram you get an good point there i dunno how it will handle it but it would be poseble acording to the magazine :

http://img256.imageshack.us/img256/9...ure2wc2.th.jpg
http://img295.imageshack.us/img295/4...ure3ib2.th.jpg
On the last page of this is some links maybee you can go to them and translate the site with babbelfish or somthing .
But here it is make an nice server of your modem ;)
So you see asking for it was not so bad idea after all if this method would run an mangos server i realy doubt it but the idea is an good one ;)
Trashman, nice ideas m8.
But remember who your telling this too, the guy don't have any computer knowledge period, so this is pointless;)
ok...im done laughing now...not possible to run a program with computer turned off....but if you got an xbox you can put linux on it and run the server off there that requires less power/space then a computer would but then again the xbox only has 64MB of ram on it
lol come up with a palm size server xD
btw asking how to keep programs running while comp is off is like asking how to keep your comp on without a battery/plug to the mains
Quite frankly, I'd rather him ask a uneducated question than him pretend to be educated about computers/servers. What would be more amusing would be, if he were a windows admin as well. :P
(Don't laugh I've seen so called administrators that can't FTP, or don't know what an ISO is, where do I get one of these jobs?!)
Well another job for the mods. But before this topic gets closed or deleted I just wanna ask something. The question above is how to run the server while the computer is off, I wanted to ask you guys, why isn't my cat chasing my comp's mouse?
