Anyone got any after college tips?

I've been thinking this over for a few hours actually and I was wondering what you guys did after college/6th form. At the moment I'm on a 2 year course and I've almost completed the first year.

I feel so frustrated that I'm hardly challenged at all by it and worst of all is that even though I'm getting Merit's/Distinction's for all my coursework, it's seeing the retards of the year (about 9/10's) constantly getting the help and attention.

I will still get a full A-level at the end of the year but I'm wondering whether to go onto the second year. I've been told it's a lot harder but tbh, I'm sure it'll be a lot harder for the retards and still the same old shit for me.

I just need some advice as the year is coming to a close. I'd like to go to University but I'd like some work experience too. Any past experiences welcome. :)

neway if i were you i'd study for as long as i can :)
take my advice... can't hurt your paycheck later on, even if you dont succeed in further studies.

and if you dont like what ur studying atm then do something else that you would like to do :)

This is what I am doing and did:

Went to a PC institute for 8 months and got 39 credits. Now want to try and go for the 2 year degree in IT business systems since its little of both and ITS VERY good to have it. Found full time job as a courier for a copy service company as work experiece, since BOTH combined are unstoppable.

Even a part time is great in like computers, office work, help desk, etc because you will have a higher % rate to get picked.

So whatever your desire to do can be technology, business, etc, go for it.

Hope that helps, and also because your young still (judging by birthdate on forum) by the time your my age you will be set.

Yea, Exclam has a point, but he really needs the work experience, it will really fucking help him alot in the furture.

Working experience does help, but you have to make sure you can handle a combination of work and studies, if you can't handle them both, then it would be best to study and then go into the work force.

Yeah my dad got an engineering job with the Army which paid him through University and he got a Degree in Engineering and a Masters in Mathematics. I might do the same although I doubt I'd like to do that because my dad then moved to become a professional soldier.

I'm sure people would take experience over qualifications, imo.

i'll say stick with what u are doing so far and complete AVCE but try and get sum sort of part-time job involving computers like admin.

I'm seriously thinking of taking a crammer 1 year course in A-level Maths as well as an AS level in English or something like that. I was always decent at English.

So many choices... so little time.

I went to computer school which wasn't needed, got a certificate degree and also went for the comptia A+ certified certificate and could not even find an entry level job as an network admin, hardware technician, help desk support, etc.

Don't knoe if overseas there, computer jobs are in big demand, because here no one replys to my resumes or schedule's interviews.

believe me, it is nothing like gcse and it's so bloody hard. I'm doing it atm and i'm struggling and i'm usually really gd at maths.

Wow, A+ certified and no job oppertunities? Sucks man, I figure you would at least get looked at. I guess it's because now a days, a lot of computer tech companies are looking down upon computer degrees due to the fact that there are so many, and of course that they have enough people now. Which is why I am not looking away from computer programming and hardware, I'm pretty much only going to do that in my spare time. I'm probably thinking of being a Lawyer now, I sure love arguing :P.

I highly doubt I want to be in ICT all my life, it gets boring. I'd rather keep it as a hobby.

I always wanted to be something like an architect but I'm a disgrace at art lol. Or I'd love to work in the car design industry but again you need to be decent with schematics and whatnot, something which I'm amazingly poor at.

Just get a part-time job so you can study if your in school. I'm sure if you need money, your mom or dad will help you out since dont work full time. Great to have a father with those skills and achievements because he can push you to do it.

Same thing with me m8, I really wanted to be a MMORPG programmer after 2 years ago, but I really wasn't a superb programmer, so I put it aside and made it my hobby :). But actually I'm programming much better than 2 years ago, though I still have no plans to actually make it a career. Maybe in my later years when I have a good backup of cash I can spend some time programming a little text MMORPG or something, would be cool.

Oh I'm fine for money, most of the time. My mam and dad look after that side but I can't rely on them forever, they're getting old (they're alot older than most parents).

Think I'll just follow my nose lol ^^ My dad maybe smart but he's an utter, utter idiot lol.

Well your dad must be making at least $100,000 annually, lol. They must've had you when you were old. My parents just hit their 60's and I'm only 21, lol.....

Do they fuck lol my dad used to make quite a bit but he and my mam retired ages ago. My dad decided instead of making money to serve his country as pretty much all of my family has. Note the medals that hang on my living room mantlepiece.

I'm only 17 and my mam and dad are well into their 60's. Near 70's almost lol :( I'm sure they got a few more years at least though ^_^ At least I know my dad has... I worry about my mam sometimes.

edit: My dad was forced to retire early btw, he has Authritus in all of his joints.

For Joe: Yea, $40,000 isnt that bad at all for one person, my parents make that combined and they have to retire soon.

for Cap: OMFG, they were almost in 50 when they had you. Mines were 39, since born same year. Yea, my mom has arthritus in her knees and just bought her a bittle of that cosamin ds which helps rebuilt joints again, should tell your dad about it. Little costly but chipped in some for her:

He gets physiotherapy and stuff but it doesn't do much for him. We've had to have a chair lift installed. >_< Sucks as he used to be seriously fit. Same with my mam really although someone she can still touch her toes and do yoga lol I dunno how.

Anyways I've decided I'm gonna go talk to a good teacher of mine and try sort out some courses. If I see him anytime soon that is.

Im currently finishing my A- lvls 2nd yr, (Maths, Further maths, economics) and going onto Uni in london permitting i attain the grades.
I had loadsa routes available to me and i had the same problem of figuring out what to do with life and careers. In the end i found education is the best way, its harder to get an easy life when ya older without a degree or higher qualifications, even though now it seems the worst thing possible to continue studying.
Pays off in the end when later in life your perspectives changes completely.

neway... cap, altough working exp is always a better thing then a degree, u still need it nowadays... i ld say, talk to a teacher... sort things out... follow the courses and then go look 4 a job. Dont let the bad economic shit bother u hun ;). Im going 4 ICT although its a kinda tough career nowadays. But im sure that with enough devotion i can get anywhere :). Although i guess that being a girl in the PC-business has its advantages :tp:

Do anything which will make you happy, or that your talented in, don't go into a career which you know you wont ever enjoy, regardless of the pay to be honest, if it would make you unhappy every hour you were there, then thats not for you. I'm not sure what your ambitions are or what your good at but just follow that.
