Got time to walk me through a setup???

Hey I am wanting to set up a server for myself to play on and maybe a few friends when i am comfortable running it I have tried to set up using RenHunt's guide with no luck so far not sure where i went wrong but not being able to connect downloading McMadness's Repack now and I am hoping to find someone with the time and knowledge to walk me through this prefer to talk on an im client aim yahoo or msn please let me know can use all the help i can get as i am tying up the computer right now from everyone else to use untill i get this working thanks...

yeah i haven't played in a while i had to reinstall windows and just decided i want to play on my own server if i can figure out how to set this up i got so close but couldn't connect i am gonna try and find someone to walk me through it though if anyone will help i will keep checking here for a response thanks guys
