No really, Just Yay.

This is amazing.
Btw after a quick chat with him, he says you should be able to start designing them now using gtkradiant, an open source free level maker for many games. Once you have the .map file, his compiler tool turns it into something gunz can handle.
A couple of problems hes having: Large/Highres textures use large amounts of resources on the client's computer.

Yeah, I talked to him on MSN about it. Use the Quake III setting for the map, and map away.
But he said it'll require you have a few special brushes, don't remember which ones. And he said there are some bugs right now, like how if you shoot a wall the FPS almost cuts in half, and the camera gets a little weird in rare cases.
But he just started the compiler 2 days ago, I think he'll have it perfected by summer, which is perfect.

The thing is though, the compiler is (excuse my terminology) a end product. Meaning if I were to make a map and keep a copy of the map file, I should be able to run it through the various versions of his compiler. His compiler doesn't have to be perfect for me to make a map :)

True. I'm already starting some maps, lol. I wasn't saying you couldn't do it, I'm just saying he has to work out some kinks before release, and still make something to generate the RS.XML (but that'll probably be the easy part).

Unfortunately, the gtxradiant site is down, and since I'm on a linux box... yeah I'm not going to find a version of it right now.
However, I did start theory drafting a map for my clan :) I already got a texture person and everything, we are ready for this :) I love shes3xygirl <3

Index of /files/radiant/nightly/1.5
Found it on Wikipedia. It's the latest versions of gtkradiant.
And uh, contact me if you guys wanna collaborate on maps if you have any experience, lol. Right now I'm doing this solo and have never edited maps before, it'd be nice to work with someone.

I'm new as well, but from what I can see, its just a CAD program that allows texture.
I hate learning how to do stuff on linux. I'll eventually get it.

I'll help out, its not that hard. especially compared to Maya and 3DSM. but i talked to you about this last night on IRC. um, get my Msn off of LG or if you're on the IRC later i'll give it to you then.

Well, since Legion is the one making this project and not any of us, there's really nothing to help with, lol. I mean, we can all start making maps to be prepared, but that's about it.
But I'm not entirely sure if I wanna collaborate with anyone now, lol. I have some ideas of my own and I'm sure others have their own ideas. Besides, I need to see how gtkradiant works before I start anything, and I've yet to see Legion's compiler for myself.

Astra always give good news :D
Can you release the "project"? If you got it?
Re: Looks like we'll be having *real* custom maps in the near future
i'd send money to him if i wasnt that poor
Re: Looks like we'll be having *real* custom maps in the near future
I don't have it, I just talk to him on MSN, lol.
But he said it'll be public and open-source once he's done with it.
