Making Auto Update Launcher !!! [ST]

##Introduction
I saw a request, so here it is!
Most of the older guides how-to-make-auto-update were shit, they don't explain about errors and what to do when you got those errors!

I hope anyone who use this guide will be able to create a auto update launcher!

##Guide Start
First, you need SkyTeam Launcher Builder [ATTACHED].
1. Download it, and open it. Put it in the side.
2. Now go to your HTTP/ROOT folder [c:/appserv/www for AppServ users. htdocs for Xamp users]
3. Create a folder named "udata" in the HTTP/ROOT directory [this will solve you troubles, lots of them..]
So now we got c:/appserv/www/udata p\or htdocs/udata
4. Lets get back to the launcher. Tick ("V") the "Enable Update Feature" and beside it you can see a picture of a packet, click on it and it will open a new window.

5. Now go to your desktop and create a folder named "patch" put in there any file for testing.
6. In the launcher, browse the first line and choose the "patch" folder we created seconds ago.
7. In the second filed choose the "www" folder [NOT udata!!!]

[ Example for the update window: ]
[ http://i153.photobucket.com/albums/s...uides/pak2.jpg ]

8. Now click "Create" and it will create the files that will be downloaded to the client.

After it finish to create the files, click the "close" button and get back to the main launcher window.
Under the "Enable Update Feature" there is a field, put in there your website address. so as "http://muonline.no-ip.org/".
Most of the people who try to make a update feature, fail. And this is the catch: you need to put a "/" after the address, not "http://muonline.no-ip.org", this will fail the update! this is the correct URL: "http://muonline.no-ip.org/"

PS: muonline.no-ip.org stands out for the HTTP/ROOT directory [in case you didnt know :P]

Now create the launcher and put it anywhere, activate it and click the update button, now see if it download the test file we created on part 5 of this guide!

i have done the guide correctly ....but still the problem comes

Check in the place the launcher located, you will probably find that document [See the launcher, it say downloading, means that it connected and downloaded]

it didnt find it... the document wasnt there

Well that kinda weird coz on the launcher you can see it downloading... but then you get HTTP error... try maybe making the file without any spaces, MAYBE it will help, say your results.

I tried now to make an update with spaces, I got the same error as yours :)

It works fine....but i have just 1 question. Everytime that i need to update some files, i must create another launcher, do the patch and www folder thing, upload the launcher and the users download it again?.
Just that...and please answer ;).

thats not true... you need to use file names whitout spaces in it.. its not because its not an english name..

It will put wherever the launcher is located.

No, it will not DL updates again and again unless you change the updated files...

It will download only the new files, and yes, need to press the full check

about what to write in the both fields, as I said, in the first path type the place of the patch, of the files you want the launcher to download to any client on any computer. The second path is where to put the UPDATE files in, so those will be the files who he will be downloaded to the machine, in my case I use appserv so my website files are on c:/appserv/www . Therefore, if I put something in the WWW folder, like a "50cent.mp3" file, you all will be able to download this mp3 file from http://myhost.com/50cent.mp3 and if I will put the file in c:/appserv/www/music I will have to download the file through this link: http://myhost.com/music/50cent.mp3 .

it works, but it kinda sucks that you have to be making new launchers for EVERY update >.>

i still have a slight problem... you see my isp limits me to 100 gig's... with this auto updater leaching off me i would go down to 0 in a few days... so how would i go abount this to have the auto updater download the files for the user out of a folder on my website. eg. http://mu.site.com/autoupdate everything in there would be files needed to patch up... would that be possible???

Fraps youre soo stupid and you nervous me, i use the search to find a tutorial how to make autoupdate launcher, and then i saw your stupid post, first your tutorial is not how to make a autoupdate launcher it is manual update, because u need to press button and second if you want to make a new update you need to rebuild launcher its fucking tutorial you cant write normally? :D

It works on any version...(tried on 97D)

It DOES replace files..i tried and works!

Players DON'T have to download new launcher but you must edit make a new launcher in YOUR PC! So it changes the configurations..i tried:
Made new launcher after editing patch folder, deleted it and used old one..and guess what? It replaced old files and downloaded new ones! So nice!

YOU DONT NEED TO MAKE A NEW LAUNCHER EVERYTIME, just create a new update with the update builder.
Second thing, the files tu update MUST be in their correct location, for example, i wanna update the file player.bmd, so, i create a folder named patch in my desktop, like in the guide, and then, inside it, anothe one called "Data", and inside data another one called "Player", and inside player i put the file Player.bmd.

Got that? you must preserve the folders estructure

• I have error you suck fraps: You didn't read the guide correctly, therefore you suck.
• get: TProgressBar property out of range: Maybe your server reports a different size than the download gets? Try use Google. Or redo the guide, obvious you didn't do it correctly.
  

Anyone can use webhosting for AutoUpdate??

i find and find and find any freewebhosting
but they aren't support for this autoupdate or webhosting limit size to uploadfiles

so in this launcher
1. Cant make update files that are in folders
2. Cant change files it only downloads those you don't have
3. You have to download a new launcher so you could have the next update.

So where could i get a launcher that would not have these 3 things.
Because this one really sucks because of these things.

ok in the 1st step when i chose my client folder then it somehow takes the files in the folders to but when i tryed to make a folder on the desktop called test and made folder data in it and puted a file in there it shoved an error. why is it like that?

1. I don't know where you got this idea, have you tried the guide? STEP BY STEP?
2. It won't change the files in the Client folder if they are the same (not name change) so if main.exe IP is set to 1.1.1.1 and the new one set to 1.1.1.2 and the rest of the main HEX code (only for example) will remain the same, it will change the main.exe .

This updater work and download singel files and folders to client, but I have one problem. When I want to make new update files then I do new launcher and update files and so. But when I add in patch folder like data/local/text.bmd then it dont make new .pak files in udata folder. But when in patch folder just local/text.bmd then all work. But then people download updates and these files just go to client/local not client/data/local.

It works for me, but it doesn't download all .pak from /htdocs/udata/...

I mean, the launcher downloads only the .pak files I mentioned, not all.

you do missing some files in your system im not sure if its visual basic .dll 's or .NET Framework ones try to get 1.1, 2.0, 3.0 and 3.2 versions and updates for them
also make sure your windows is up to date

I'm having this error when i click on "Update".
What could be the problem? I know i did the steps 1-8 right, because i see the .PAK files in my udata folder, but there has to be something wrong with my update URL or so. Maybe i need to write there "http://muonline.no-ip.org/udata/" ? (i know that i have to change muonline with my owh ip n stuff, my server is running well, but the update feature doesn't work yet)

Want to know how i made it work? Read further!

1) As update URL just paste "http://munonline.no-ip.org" (muonline has to be changed with your own one)
2) If you have more than 1 computer using internet in your network and it's also running Xampp then you have to redirect the default LAN ip to yours. But i don't have a clue how to do this, sorry for that, but i know this could cause serious troubles when configuring Xampp for Updater and MuWeb
3) Check that your port 80 is open (default: open). And check your firewall security level.

It's looks like you can do it, just make the same folders in the other PC and change IPs where you should do it, I haven't tried but it could be possible. I think

and when i finished to create the launcher i enter him
click update and its downloaded the file i putted earlyier
but when im adding new files, its doesn't downloading them...
