Dont think the kid who replied u knows what he's talking about, this is definitly enough for an small server, i would guess that u can have 500 users or so.

yes go for linux definately
you need windows to run the server dude... on linux u cant...(maybe with wine)... but not optimus..... u need MS-SQL... MS-SQL is for windows too....
For comparison my old spec:
P4 2.4Ghz, 1GB RAM, 40x2 ATA, Win 2K3
runs:
- L2C4 with 100 concurrent user MAX, over that somehow the resource start to screw up
- L2 Webserver for database
only laggy when I edit the webserver or I play L2 (as GM) from that com.
I think your spec is more than enough for small server, that could host 500 or more concurrent user I think.
At me P4 3.0Ghz, 1.5 RAM, 250Gb+400GB SATA, Win XP, 10MBs internet connection...

oki i got another idea ill buy inter core2quad 9.6 ghz (all cpu power) 4 gb ram's for start 2x fujistsu-siemiens hard's 73.5 gb 10k rpm 8 mb cache and another hard for backup's
ur ram is little bit low and u need a x64 cpu ( amd = amd64 | intel = EMT64 ) with a windows x64 version ( windows xp x64 or windows server 2003 x64 )Quote:
