This make no sence
Ok I change to pc with differant specs and are getting the
[RunDB] Save DB times out...
error when game tries to save a player
The thing is
CPU is 10-45% (Was below 10 when I deleted all maps spawns npcs as a test)
RAM is used less then 30%
I boost SQL priority
I boost DBSever priority
I lower M2Sever priority
This is with P4 3.4 2gb RAM. The DB sever just stops responding like it does not know what to do with the data but it does because it saved my character when I make it!
What else could be wrong :(

Re: This make no sence
hmm strange one that.
i generally mess around with set ups in bed, feet up, on the laptop then move the setup straight over to another machine, i then have a choice of 3, all with different specs. and i've had no problems at all.
you didnt mention which os you are now using, or if you changed it at all. mine run on xp media, home and pro.

Re: This make no sence
what operating system and service pack are you using?
-
Re: This make no sence
it work happy on xp pro and this one is windows 2003 service pack 1, I think windows 2003 would be better
It has a P4 with hyperthreading? Looks like 2 Cpu but it is not dual core? (I do not understand this I try to explain it may be important)

Re: This make no sence
upgrade to service pack 2 and see if it helps...

Re: This make no sence
i understand which type of cpu. p4 3.4HT, similar to the one my main machine uses.
That shouldnt be a problem.
it sounds like you are running windows 2003 server... and thats one operating system i'm not familiar with, will get genned up/learn soon.
there must be some significant differences with the server edition, as ALL versions of microsoft 2005 sql run on server but only 2005 standard supports xp (apart from free one).
had a thought, which sql are you using, if using the free one express 2005, this is restricted and only one thread (cpu) is used. i couldnt get it to run properly on my win xp pro 3.4E HT 2g ram machine had to use standard....
i wonder if you get hold of enterprise or another version, maybe due to the restrictions db is timing out cause of a slow down of the sql.
you could also pay a visit to intels web site Welcome to Intel somewhere they have a utility that checks your hyperthreading set up. may be worth a try.

Re: This make no sence
Service pack 2 had no help,
I am interested in this CPU idea but I am not sure what I can do I could not afford to pay for a better SQL
Inside SQL it allows me to specify what CPU to use and I try CPU 0 or 1 then set M2 affinity to the other one and no help either
thank :)

Re: This make no sence
Just thought maybe I closed a port I should have?
But I can create characters and one time it did save to tbl_usermagic :(

Re: This make no sence
I just try and install SQL 2005 evaluation which is enterprise edition and this not work too
I wonder did anyone ever get it working on windows 2003? maybe this is the problem

Re: This make no sence
I get this all the time when i get about 130 people online.
I have now upgraded to a quad core CPU and 4 gig of ram, i will let you know the out come of the update.

Re: This make no sence
well the upgrade has sorted the problems that i had.
i think it is MSSQL that causes most of the problems.

Re: This make no sence
Did you have problem running on two severs? I think you had sql on another sever one time?
I think my problem is either the CPU being hyperthread not happy or that is it windows 2003 standard
but how can I find out :(
-
Re: This make no sence
Well I try on new dual core and CPU is low but save error
Is this a windows 2003 problem?
Something I notice is that compare to old files these use 10x number of cpu threads

Re: This make no sence
what are the processes which have a lot of processor usage on the task manager?
