[PSP] New PSP Announced

Yup. No suprise eh?

Sony took the wraps off of the device we all knew in our hearts was coming: A redesigned PSP. Though it was expected, it's probably a surprise to most how little has changed. The new model keeps the 4.3" LCD screen, and still has UMD. It is, however, 33% lighter and 19% slimmer. Also, the battery is more efficient and games load faster. It can also output a high quality video signal directly to TVs.

The system will also come in two new colors which are also part of two new packs. First is the Ice Silver, part of the $199.99 Entertainment Pack that comes with a 1GB Memory Stick, Daxter, and the Family Guy Frickin' Sweet Collection on UMD. Also is a new, white Star Wars-themed PSP that will retail in October for $199.99 packed with Star Wars Battlefront: Renegade Squadron. These release plans are for North America, announcements for Japan and Europe are forthcoming.

w00t! it seems $199 is a reasonable price right? w/ a 1GB mS and seems no difference at all! maybe ill change my old brick psp for this

hey sony, why don't you put HARD DRIVES in your hand held products? no one wants to waste his or her money on crappy pieces of stick that are the same price has 100gig hdds >:O (of course the smallest one runs about $250 :doh: hell it's better than a piece of plastic -.-)

the Sd costs more cuz it smaller and smaller = more tech = more $$. and who would carry around a huge ass PSP wit a hard drive :vegeta-s:

im those person that like to carry heavy stuff like my ipod 80gb, if they incorporate w/ those companies w/ sd cards w/ 80gb= more $$$

I think i'll buy one, just for the sake of having one.

Wow sony really cant think of anything to add for example Dual analog stick for fps use and other but Nooooo! its the same thing wow...

well actually in their defense, its not a PSP2 so they aren't going to make tons of upgrades and stuff. Its just an updated sleeker version so i guess it isn't that bad. it is just another way for them to get people to waste money tho.

Thats pretty cool but I really hope am not going blind. I cant really make out much difference amongst the two pictures post above. :(

There isn't really, which ain't a bad thing, the PSP is pretty well designed. The extra's (mainly the TV out) does give it just a little boost that makes the PSP quite interesting.

I might buy it myself if i can run homebrew on it, if not then i will just stick with my current PSP.

The power consumption of a HDD is massive compared to an stick. With hand hold consoles its expected it will last for AGES so it would be a bad idea. Plus theyd make less money :D

Handheld consoles ftl :P Still it looks like a nice update, maybe they can beat DS now? ^^

Looks the same to me and tbh I'd rather stick with the older model with custom firmware =)

I'm the kind of person who would shove a psp in his pocket lol.

robert I see your point, it makes sense to use something that takes up less power, especially when the batter life STILL fails in comparison with the DS (and with squeenix on nintendo's side they're pumping out some really nice-looking games).

The DS is beating the PSP by far. It has a ton of fun games (metroid, mario kart, and will eventually get ninja gaiden), but I want to play some psp games badly (like the new god of war, and rouge squadron lol...). The psp has some really class games, but when it comes to shooters the DS's touch screen is so much better than one crappy nub of an analogue stick =\. I would still like a PSP though.

oh yeah edit: there is no different in those pics because they're the same psp. The new, lighter one has the mic and other hole on the other side of the psp at the top, and if you can somehow squint (I'm amazing :P) and look at the first one you can't really see anything. Let me find better pictures!

LoL pay 200$ plus tax for the same psp, thats redicolus; but wait smaller size, longer battery life and bigger Screen size!...yeah Im glad Mine broke Cause Im getting one of these baby ASAP!

The PSP beats the DS at some points without any problem. If you take 1 of the best racing games ever made, the Burnout series, then you should compare the DS version with the PSP version, the DS version is complete garbage, simply a waste of money, whereas the PSP version is 1 of the best PSP games, and is simply a worthy and great Burnout game.
There are many more game that simply has no place on the DS, while they are excellent games on the PSP, simply due to the power and resolution it has, it just gives it certain options that the DS lacks.

seems like the same transition ps2 went through, from normal to slim ps2. havent got a psp myself dont really like consoles these days, but the psp seems quite promising and ive played it a few times before, and i have a mate who can get me any game i want for free.#


might just invest in 1 now :D
