[PS3] The new 40GB PS3

Not sure where it's all being released, although i believe it was around the whole globe.

Personally i think it's garbage, no PS2 games can be played, only 2 USB's and no Card Reader, and ofcourse 20GB less. The sad part is that this is just another trick from Sony, they claim they removed features so it could reduce the price, but that's a load of crap, they simply removed enough so that they can still advertise a cheaper PS3, but they know most people will still buy the 60GB because the 40GB is to damn crap.

Anyway so they claim they removed those stuff for the price, but emulating costs nothing, it's called emulating for a reason, there is no reason not to have this included, removing 2 usb's and the card reader is a load of crap aswell, it hardly costs anything, and my brother made a point that redesigning the case would have costed them quite a bit aswell. To put it more into perspective, i bought a USB2 card reader with the whole crap for 10 euro with 4 extra USB ports and everything, so just imagine what it costs Sony to put that in... the 20GB less is a joke aswell, those are sizes that makes no difference anymore. Basicly if this all saves them 10 dollar/euro on it, then it would be a lot.

This is yet again a publicity stunt from Sony.

40gig...... Isn't blu-ray supposed to close to that sorta storage?

I admit that the space will mostly be used for saving games.... but what about downloading new games and demos? Didn't even think they made 40gig hard drives anymore (not internal anyway).

PS3 just isnt worth it at the moment. Not for a fair few months to come.... maybe even a year. the 360 is the way to go imo. I don't own one (ive only got an old xbox) but if i was gonna get a consol the 360 would be it!

Apparently most people buy the PS3 just because its a blu-ray player and it actually works out cheaper to buy the consol than to buy a stand alone player.... or that for a few extra $'s you can get a full multimedia center.

Played on the PS3 and thought it was average to poor.

It's already a fail then, one of the most sold consoles but you still can't play it on the best up. I've even up on sony. Why there still have the PS3 on production is beyond me.

I dont see the point in having the PS3 anymore, it really is how Gohan put it as Garbage.

they just want more people to look up stuff for the PS3 and find its a little cheaper.

the 360 still out-plays it. i say.

Oh i do see a point in the PS3, don't get me wrong there, it's just that this package is garbage, and is just another trick from Sony to get consoles sold, i mean let's compare the 40GB with the 60GB here with the new prices

60GB PS3 500,-
-2 controllers
-card reader
-4 usb's
-2 games (in most cases Motorstorm + Resistance Fall of Man, but quite a few stores allow you to pick any 2 of Sony's games, like Ninja Gaiden or Heavenly Sword)
-PS2 emulation

Now the 40GB is 100 euro less, but this is what you loose
-20 GB
-2 USB ports
-No extra controller
-No games
-No PS2 emulation

The games + controller alone is already worth more then the 100 euro.

Gohan, the 40gb version is just a 20gb without the PS2 chips.

True it's stupid how they are not implementing the emulation on it but I'm sure they will in the future when people bitch about it. When people start to bitch about things Sony does go about to fixing it for them.

Fixing them? They're removing a piece of software, it's not like it has a flaw or anything... It's like in those movies where a cop walks around your car and says "Your taillight is broken" and when you respond that it isn't, he will smack it in and tell you it's broken.

There is simply no reason why there shouldn't be any emulation, except for the fact that Sony simply releases a piece of shit PS3, that nobody wants to buy, but can still advertise that price. The same was for the 20GB, they just released that so they could advertise a cheaper price. When they found out it was very popular they decided to remove it, so now they come with a version that won't be popular, and that's what they want, a unpopular product that will look good in advertisements.

Yeah they want to advertise a cheaper price just to sell more systems. Even MS did it with their Core system that no one really buys.

And if it will be unpopular or not I would have to wait and see. There are tons of Sony fanboys out there that will now buy one at $400 instead of a x360. Not to mention you have the holiday season coming up and the cheaper PS3 will sell very good.

As for emulation. It's a joke but it will be on the 40GB model one way or another. Whether Sony puts it on it or people will make custom firmwares to put on it.

And I don't see why you can just install the 80gb's firmware on it or mod it to. Since the hardware is identical aside from the lack of memory card ports.

well down here in australia i can get a brand new ps3 for $600 or a 360 pro pack for about 550 or less easly

only problem for me is that i want 360 jsut for halo3 and i want ps3 for a few games

All depends on pretty well. 20% of the x360's around here are Cores. So that's about 20 units a week compared to 80 of the others.

In some ways it's pretty well but in comparision to the other systems it isn't.

Only people who don't know anything about games buys the Core as it's just a stupid deal. The Premium comes with an HDD that cover the cost difference and also comes with the HD cables, head set, and wireless controller. That alone make it a much better deal then the Core.

Even still with the new Core coming out with a 256mb memory card and a few arcade games it just doesn't make sense. As the Premium will be coming with 2 games included. Making it even more of a better deal.

You can get the Premium here for 350 euro with Forza 2, Viva Pinata and another game, as they're also included with packs such as Saints Row, which is a really sweet deal.

Early over there. They wont be doing that bundle until the end of the month or November here.

They used to have a Saints Row and GRAW pack but for $20 extra. Haven't seen them around in months though.

We have had the 2 game packs for a while now. I saw that in the US you get Forza 2 and Marvel Ultimate Alliance (atleast it said so on GameSpot). Kinda weird considering last time i checked Marvel Ultimate Alliance is not published by Microsoft, nor is it a exclusive, so Viva Pinata makes more sense. Still Marvel Ultimate Alliance is a sweet game, got it on the PSP and it's pretty great.
