Jeff Gerstmann fired from GameSpot for giving a bad review
Jeff Gerstmann the editorial director of GameSpot was fired from his job after his Kane and Lynch review didn't quite please the owners.
Basicly the whole site was filled with Kane and Lynch crap and Jeff gave it a average score of 6, and after reviewing the game they were definetly not happy with it, in the video (which was removed supposedly due to the language) he gives more then enough good arguments to justify the rating, and the fact is that metacritic is on a 7, so a 6 really ain't that weird...
So far there has been no message from him on what happened, the community is really pissed off and boycotted the review for Kane and Lynch (got like a 2)
Ofcourse some say that he was fired for the right reasons, but i don't believe it, the guy been around for like 11 years, was 1 of the most popular people in the community, and 1 of the best reviewers and had a pretty high job there, so why would they fire him besides being really pissed off, because let's face it, would you want to advertise a game on a site that gave it a bad review?
Jeff Gerstmann - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
GameSpot/CNET really fucked up there, and this is gonna cost them a lot more then some advertising, members have left the site in big numbers, and that plus the fact how GameSpot dealt with the problem is definetly gonna be a problem for future advertisers.

i agree with you also after firing a reviewer for giving his honest opinion about a game gamespot has lost a lot of credibility in the eyes of it's members.

Apparantly Eidos were paying gamespot so much, and they demanded he was fired. Fucking rediculous, if you're a game designer and can't handle criticism then you're in the wrong job.

As childish as they were... wtf was GameSpot thinking, yes Eidos was pulling the strings, but which idiots let that happen to them?
Ofcourse Eidos ain't that smart either because Kane and Lynch do got a lot of publicity, but only bad publicity, and if you get 1 of the best reviewers in the world fired because he didn't like your game, then you're pretty much fucked.
I really don't see what good came from this, i only see this as a financial and popularity setback for all of them, well except for Jeff's popularity.
Re: Jeff Gerstmann fired from GameSpot for giving a bad review
Well, money can really make freaky things happen. ^^ Now, was that game really that bad? Anyways, gamespot shouldnt have fired a reviewer bcoz of that.
Re: Jeff Gerstmann fired from GameSpot for giving a bad review
The Gamespot version
although they say that he did not leave as a result of pressure from an advertiser
by the comments it got it doesn't look like anyone belives them , and gamespot has everything to lose.

It's still very obsucre I doubt Gamespot will ever release the full story, but NOT
releasing it is also a statment.

Loving the tags on GameSpot for that article.
bs bullshit cnet cnet sucks conspiracy controversy corporate corruption damage control editorial director eidos fired gamespot gerstmann jeff jeff gerstmann jeff gertsmann kane & lynch liars lies
Re: Jeff Gerstmann fired from GameSpot for giving a bad review
Pathetic. Absolutely pathetic.
GameSpot is so corrupt. I'm cancelling my membership immediately.
Too late to cover up the bad review now anyway. Lots of people read it, and will undoubtedly now post it on their own sites to defend Jeff.
Re: Jeff Gerstmann fired from GameSpot for giving a bad review
That pissed me off when i read about it friday, here comes tuesday and they basically say they cant disclose why he was fired, OR why they pulled the initial review for kain and lynch. Jeff was awesome, I would always watch his reviews because he knew what he was talking about and didnt sell out, but i guess thats not what gamespot wants, advertise on gamespot to get a l33t review!. CNET has destroyed gamespot.
Re: Jeff Gerstmann fired from GameSpot for giving a bad review
well fuck gamespot right in the ass, thats really pissed me off
all the best to gertsmann though i think his future will be fine, if anything this will open more doors for him
Re: Jeff Gerstmann fired from GameSpot for giving a bad review
the guy gave an honest review. is that not allowed anymore? So pretty much if a game is being hyped it cannot fail, b/c reviewers cannot write bad reviews or else they will lose their job. is that what i'm seeing. because if so then game reviews are becoming more and more untrustworthy
Re: Jeff Gerstmann fired from GameSpot for giving a bad review
It's a shame that reviewers can't be honest any more because of money being thrown everywhere.
I've seen only a handful of his review and he seem like one of a few good guys you can rely on. I hope he manages to move on from this and do his reviews the way he wants, I am sure he will do well. ^^
