Hi all,
there are many problems appeared these days.
such as : Ring of death , Freezes or unreadable disc error..
now i have my xbox 360 for about 1 year and a half.
it worked fine for a whole year.
and then POOF
i wanted to play halo 3 . i went to the xbox360 .. turned it on..
and .. WTF?
3 red lights
i called the store if they can fix it and he said : " sry we can't fix it .. its almost impossible"
anyway i went to youtube to see if i can fix it..and i found the "towels trick" it works fine.
few days later after using this trick
the xbox 360 freezes every 5 minutes after booting up.
it even freezes on the dashboard!
any idea ?
Please help me!

Re: [360] xbox 360 problems?
Chances are You probably....
a) Smoke next to your Xbox
b) Keep the back of the console too close to a wall
c) Dropped it/or shifted or bumped it causing something to come loose (HDD) something.
d) Keep the power brick next to it.
e) Leave it on 24/7
f) Have a White one (not elite or Halo Edition)
g) Play in a Really warm room
h) Left the console on a carpet
I) Have it inside a confined space like an entertainment center.
*Possible Fix(that wont Void Warranty)
1) Unplug ALL the cables Blow Air/Dust off on the connectors Put back in.
2) Unplug Hard drive blow air on connector (plug back in)
3) Make sure power Brick isn't faulty borrow one from some 1 you know.
4) Keep it in an open area./dust free area/keep away from smokers.
5) Go buy a new Elite or Halo Edition one... The Elite can handle the stress of Heat expansion alittle better as the new ones have a better heat sink "i think" and silicone sealant around major components to stop expansion.
Good news is if you didn't tamper with it you under another 2 years of warranty.
*Possible fix that will Void Warranty
X-clamp Mod.
Fan Mods etc....
*Risky Towel Trick. . . "I wouldn't do this more than ounce as it damages solder"
*Rip it apart and take a hot blow drier to the board ^^ Same Risk as above. . . little less savage on the approach to it tho.
"Id say if all else fails just send it to Microsoft and you will get a new/fixed one in a week and half to 2 weeks. . . In the meantime build a cooling shrine for it ^^.
And for the guy who said "you should of got a ps3" . . . Ps3's Overheat and Fail and get Red Ring also . . . its just not as publicized because ps3 fan boys are too scared to complain to the manufacturer about a problem. ( Any Next Gen System with 3 Or more Cpu Cores is GOING TO GET HOT) "What compels people to throw it on there bed next to a stack of pron mags and moldy pizza and use it as an ash tray is beyond me"
Also Microsoft is slowly buying out all the Ps3 Exclusive Titles so theres no point to get a ps3 at all... unless your one of those Final Fantasy / Tekken Players thats about the only Titles that will draw people to buy ps3... personally I am going to wait and buy both systems when Ps3 is 200$ just like its other over priced predecessors . . .
"I will ps3 used in a garage sale in a year, when the games that matter actually exist" ^^
Ps: seeing as how you used the Towel Trick . . . you probably did it too long and melted the solder right off the board... "I wouldn't tell Microsoft about that if I was you" ^^ * The Towel Trick is a terrible way to Rez your Xbox* basically beacuase Xbox uses a more enviromentaly safe solder"led Free" because of govt regulations that are starting to pop up . . . it can't take that much heat without loosening up the solder....
that is why it gets messed up after being in too warm a condition.... for prolonged time... and needs Room to breathe.... i run mine in an open flat surface with nothing around it and i play for 12 + Hours non stop Halo 3/ DOA 4 Gears of war Etc and guess what?
Never froze/Never Crashed/Never RROD The case hardly hits 50 Deg C id say Top 65 Deg C at full load maybe on a warm day 70. ... been doing this for about 4 Months now on my Xbox 360 Elite..... o and whenever some one tries to smoke at my house i send them to the back yard and tell them to stay 30 feet from my windows/doors and i make them shake there jackets / clothes outside to remove dust and shit... i cant stand filthy smokers.... coming over ruining all my electronics with there filth.

1. towel trick is in the manual and the solder is the problem to begin with so its already damaged -_-
2. PS3's dont overheat anywhere near as much as the X360 does
4. the PS3 is starting to beat the 360 so myeah

Re: [360] xbox 360 problems?
Well don't you have warranty over it ? You said you have it for a year and a half and the warranty is for 3 years, that should solve you.
A lil offtopic:
Yeah the PS3 doesn't heat that much :) as I keep it almost 24/7 for playing &/or folding@home.

Re: [360] xbox 360 problems?
You should've just taken it back into the shop you bought it from :/
My little brother bought a white 360 back in April and by early November he got the Rings Of Death so we took it back into the GAME store we bought it from, one of the guys went into the back room and replaced it free of charge. it's meant to be a standard thing with Microsoft because they can't keep up with repairing every broken console.

You kidding me right? Microsoft would put that in the manual? I don't believe that at all. There are several risks to the system, and it could lead to fires and all that.
And yeah, just get the number from Xbox.com and call them to get it picked up and fixed.

did i say anything at all about the manual to the 360 from microsoft?

Re: [360] xbox 360 problems?
Anyways the xbox 360 elite still has the dam 3 red light problem o so i readed in some webpage, PS3 ? you kidding that thing doesnt even have a nice list of games yet just 3 at max that are good or something like that and most of those i have em on my pc wich still runs em at nice resolutions i think the only xbox so far wich doesnt have that red light prob is the Halo 3 especial edition cuz the only diference of the xbox elite is that its black and it got the hdmi cables and the 120gb hd and a month of gold membership to xbox live and the Halo 3 edition is main diference is tha t its cpu is made with 65nm instead of the 90nm (nm stands for nanometers) that most xbox 360 are made. Anyways I think the best solution to that is to buy an intercooler (srry dont know the developer of that thing) and besides if you wanna have a .............. copy of em you can have ..... copy, and in the PS3 you have to stick to original game copys wich are a problem to less fortunate gamers
-
Re: [360] xbox 360 problems?
360's had a problem, Microsoft fixed that. If you get it repaired then you will get a new one back without any of those problems. (ofcourse there is still a chance to have other hardware failures, but those are small)
I would highly advice against getting a intercooler.

A manual for Texans and Rednecks alike. :)

Re: [360] xbox 360 problems?
I've treated my 360 well, but nothing extremely over-caring or anything. i simply gave it some space and don't play for 15 hours a day. I have yet to have anything happen, but a random freeze. and that was only due to the game not the 360.

Re: [360] xbox 360 problems?
i think your right..
yesterday i did something that microsoft told me to..i went to the system > memory > pressed Y > then pressed x,x,LB,RB,x,x .. and pressed <YES>..
I restarted the system and let it off for about 5 minutes..then i turned it on..nothing happend wrong..i played Orange box <portal> for about 30 minutes..nothing happend..i tried <Team fortress 2> for about 15 minutes..nothing happend. but when i played Halo 3..in the middle of our fight between me and my bro .. it froze..and i only played for about 8 ~ 15 minutes -.-
i think the problem = halo 3.. i should delete the saved games or something like that..well i think i wont be playing halo 3 for a while :S

Umm.... All the units built in the last 3 months are the same.
If you got one built before then it will be the same. Half of the Elites out there are the old models that have the same problems.
Sure they have a better heat sink but that doesn't solve the problems.

Most of the so called fixes are stupid as most cause more damage to the system.
Though I really do love the last suggestion. Take a blow drier to the board...

Pure fan boy talk there.
First of all... How does a PS3 get a Red Ring? Explain that... There is no damn ring on it!
Second of all, not necessarily will multiple cores get hot. It's all down to the design of the chip and how efficient it is. The Cell processor is a marvel of modern electronics. It's extremely efficient. It doesn't use too much power and it out performs anything around.
Now with the x360, the problem isn't really with the CPU. It isn't the hottest thing there. The GPU is. Even the new 65nm CPU systems still get hot. Why? It's not the CPU's fault. The GPU is the biggest problem with the x360 and that's because of how ATI designed their R5xx and R600 chips.
Now for the PS3, that just isn't the case. Their GPU is much cooler running and the CPU is also cooler running. The hottest thing in the PS3 is the HDD and BluRay player and not the chips.
That is why the PS3 doesn't over heat.
Trust me on this. My PS3 has operated in poorly ventilated area with high room temps and it never once over heated and died. I've had it to lock up a few times but thats only when I ran the system for 18 hour straight and after 2 mins it turned back on and ran perfectly fine for another 6 hours before I turned it off to sleep.
It really does make me laugh at how much of a fan boy you are. You trash something you have never used. :icon6:

MS will never buy out all of the PS3 exclusive titles. Why? A lot of them have SCE as their publisher and SCE will be damned to sell their stuff to their rival.
Yet again more fan boy crap.
Sure MS is buying out 3rd party developers/publishers but that's the business. Things flop all the time.
Capcom, Square Soft, and Kanomi were all Nintendo exclusives that Sony stole. ;)

Just wait and see. You have one of the old Elites that are prone to this crap also. I ran my old one perfectly fine for 12 months. 2 day before having it for 1 year it died. I always made sure it was in a perfectly open area with great ventilation and never allowed anyone to smoke near it. So why did mine die? I thought the same crap but that isn't the case.
And smoke doesn't hurt electronics for the most part. The odds of it doing it is very slim. The only way it will happen is if you had 20 people standing around it 24/7 for a few months. Then maybe it will die because of it.
NoPeace - out

i just need to know how to fix it..

Re: [360] xbox 360 problems?
To be honest I get the three red lights every time I turn the console on. I just turn it back off, leave it for about 30 seconds and then turn it back on again. Works for me.

1.) I just read the entire Manual (No Towel trick There) why would microsoft tell you to intentionally overheat your system board . . .
2.) =) They over heat just as much if they where put under the same conditions as the xbox 360's are in. . . infact if they did a study i bet the only reason Ps3 Overheating isn't reported as much is because theres WAY MORE PEOPLE on Xbox than there are on Ps3. . . sounds logical no?
Ex: 1000 xbox exist, 50 die ; 500 ps3's, 25 Die ? Xbox had around a 25- 35%(reported) Fail Rate ps3 may have 10 - 20% (reported) Your talking a diff of 10 - 15% in overall fail rate. . . Also last i Checked Ps3 Warranty is only 1 Year as the Xbox now has a 3- year...
3.) You Skipped 3 cause your dumb.
4.) In what aspect? What games ? What online content? almost every Exclusive on the ps3 will be ported (even Metal gear solid has been rumored to possibly come out on xbox...) If Microsoft wanted they could buy out all the major game companies and refuse to sell ANY titles to Sony ;) so Stfu b4 Bill gates Steps on you and you system.
Also In response to Nopeace Ps3 gets "The Blinking Light of Death" or whatever you want to call it.

( its all the same . . . Hardware Failure... who cares what name its given)...
Ps3 is just as prone to hardware failure in many aspects not just overheating . . .
Xbox 360 has mainly only 1 problem and that is the Environmentally Safe solder they use....
Also my friend gets RROD all the time he just Unplugs it plugs it back in and hes good for hours and he abuses his xbox system. . .
And yes I am an Xbox 360 Fan and DAMN PROUD! Does it mean I wont buy the Ps3 at a future Date? NO but damn it im not gona spend 400$ on a system that has no Content and nothing Im looking forward to playing... Now if it was 250$ That is a Value cause at least it would make a Nice Blue Ray Disc Player. . . Not that I own any Blue Ray discs . . . Im happy with DL DvD movies . . . that I can rent from BlockBuster... (who really cares about the format, I hate Format wars... Blue Ray is Sony's last ditch attempt at marketing. . . "It has Blue Ray" Omg the "way of the Future" in a few months they will Invent something new allowing you to fit 200000000Gb's on a Dvd and then what will Blue Ray be? Garbage thats what. . . Both DL and Blue ray will be obsolete . . . its inevitable so why get caught up in a format conflict.
So if you wana play Ps3 go ahead have Fun with your Door stop "Blue Ray Disc Player" and stare at it till some Fun Content comes out. . .
Even if my Xbox Died Tonight I would Just send it To Mc Soft .... and they will take care of it.

Re: [360] xbox 360 problems?
pfffff why all the xbox 360 videos are the same age from xbox 360 launch . . .
and people throw them at me all the time....
Im done with this topic say what you will about xbox 360 etc.... wont change my mind and everyone who buys a Ps3 and truely believes it is better than xbox is a retard. . .
No matter what anyone says
Xbox 360 has a better video card. . . and more/better titles...
Most 3rd party titles are ported to both systems (but look better on the xbox)
Sony Ps3 Does have a faster processor, but none of the games on the ps3 take full advantage of it. . .
Sony is dealing with a very limited slowly expanding list of titles... sure it has a few good future lineups. . . but nothing to get your panties all in a bunch about...
Anyone who believes anything Different is a retard....
Assassins Creed = Great Game On Both Ps3 and Xbox
Grand Theft Auto = Great Game now on Both Ps3 and Xbox
Theres even talk in the mists of the internets that state that theres a possibility that the Metal Gear Solid series being ported ( I doubt it as that would spell doom to Sony's Ps3. . ., there will probably be a timed exclusive for the most part) I dont care much as MGs4 isn't really a Multyplayer type game in my opinion. . . so ill just go to my friends house, finish the game and never look at it again just as i did with the rest of the Mgs..
Unreal Tourny 3 also will have a delayed release to the xbox...(((05/01/08)))
There are Tons of Xbox games out now already and tons more planned for the future...
DOA4 (awesome game)
Quake 4
Elder Scrolls series. . .
Prey
Orange Box (portals, Team Fortress, HALF LIFE)
Halo Series
GTR
Huxley
What does that leave the ps3? well lets see
The Tekken 6 series ( Great game cant dispute that)
KillZone 2 ( Killzone 1 wasn't that fun i have played it.... maybe 2nd one will be better but dont know. . . as most videos are just cinematics)
MGS4
Unreal Tourny 3(Timed Exclusive)
Final Fantasy Crap ( Hate All of them after 7) (especially 10)
Heavenly Sword ( I will take Ninja Gaiden on xbox over that title anyday)
God Of war ( again ninja Gaiden better...)
Socom
Heres a more extensive list. . .
The Exclusive Arms Race: June 2007 Update (Special) @ Gaming Target
I truely Believe the Xbox 360 holds a Better Value in Current and Future content, But less Value in Hardware(despite better video card)
So pick
Value in Hardware
Or
Value in Games
Ps: Put what to shame 98% of what I stated is MY OBSERVATION presented from My Point of View in Consumer Value.... (My view of consumer Value), Different people hold Different Values... some people just want a ps3 because it is just that "A Ps3 ... the 3r rendition of a console they owned the previous 2 renditions to...) and to some people that in itself is enough value...
But for someone to blatantly say that the Ps3 is Better than the Xbox 360 in every respect is just ignorant.... there are Pros and Cons to both systems. . . but Hardware Failure is something bost systems share in common even if you chose to ignore it.
Also my apologies on the aspect of Ps3 overheating, Maybe it doesn't overheat. . . but they still have general hardware failures...also perhaps the Xbox 360 problems are not generally 100% an overheating issue. . . i go into forge mode in Halo and Blow up 30x Fusion Coils just for Fun in a non-stop contiguous loop "just to mess around" and the Xbox Barely Pulls a hick up and stays around the same operating temp... as normal +/- a few degrees... i would like to actually get a heat sensor (other than the back of my hand) to test heat but the differance is relatively small for my system under load/idle.....
I think for the past xbox failures there is more to it than just Solder and heat...

Re: [360] xbox 360 problems?
A general Question to NoPeace
All FanBoy/Blablabla Bable put Aside Hands Down
If you had to chose which system you "enjoy playing more" which would you pick
Xbox 360 or Playstation 3?
I would pick the Xbox 360 just because I like the Lineup and enjoy it more online.(and yes I have played Both, I played Resistance fall of Man, at a friends house, It was a good game but Halo 3 was a lot more fun just because of the random things that seem to happen in the game... "you cant play it 2 times and have the same thing happen everytime" To date I have finished Halo 3 On legendary about 8 Times "Onetime for each time a friend purchased an Xbox and Halo one week after playing at my house, most of them came over without influence from me and picked up the control and said "this is f%## FUN" at which point i replied "wait till you play online..." then they said " You can play this crazy shit Online o0?"
Atleast 3 Days out of the week each week for the past 3 months its me and 5 - 9 other people playing anything from custom games on halo, to matches in Dead or Alive 4.... its just Fun.
Atm I am even getting ready to go out an get Call of Duty 4 cause my cousin got showed me it at his house, it was nuts and a ton of fun the multi player is Fun but i dont like the radar in the standard settings... all i have to say only1 bad thing about the game is the standard Radar settings that show enemy positions all the time.

------15 Rules------
1) Don't get one from launch from a friend or used.
2) Keep it in an OPEN area.
3) Keep Power Brick at least a foot away.
4) Don't put it on carpet
5) Don't make the back face a wall that is too close.
6) Don't put it next to a space heater
7) Don't shake it Violently
8) Keep a stable voltage to it ( Apc/un-interruptible psu)
9) I would put a little electrical tape on the power cord connection to make it tighter as it is loose sometimes.
10) I prefer to stand it vertically so that minimal heat is traped within a smaller surface area apposed to flat where one entire side is focusing heat.
( i know what your all gona say "your Blocking Fans" but your not there are no Fans on that side ;) ) + I have it on a custom built stand so that it is levitated thus it is floating in mid air)
11) If you have a white Xbox from Launch kiss it goodbye and go buy one.
12) Keep it out of an entertainment center that gets cramped in space.
13) Don't put it on any other Set-top Boxes liek a vcr/dvd player.
14) Do NOT use third party Coolers as they can ruin your xbox... as they draw power from your xbox straining it...(intercooler)
15) Id say let the thing warm up over 2 minutes @ dash board b4 playing if you have a really cold room like in a basement as to reduce sudden stress fractures.
Notice most of it is common sense.

You are wrong actually. They don't over heat when they are in the same conditions as the x360. Like I said. My x360s are in a better cooling spot then the PS3 and they still over heat unlike the PS3.
And if you want a study. Just google it. Sony did one to test the operating threshold of the PS3.
DailyTech - Sony Brags of PlayStation 3 Durability After Stress Test
Read that and you'll be amazed. The PS3 can run for days at temps over 100f. Unlike the x360, that will crash if the room temp is at 90f.

The fail rate for the x360 is 33%. Which is 1 out of ever 3.
While the fail rate for the PS3 is actually 5%. Wich is 1 out of every 20.
Now a 5-10% fail rate is standard for electronics. A 33% isn't.
And you can tell this by looking at the warranty. Both came out with a 90day warranty. MS on the other had had to keep increasing it because of the high fail rate, which unlike Sony who doesn't have to.

MS would not waist money on buying out the major game publishers. Why? Because it's not profitable to them. Sure spending 50m one company is no deal to them but to spend 5b on one studio is a big deal.
Can MS buy out everyone? Yes they could but will they? Not in anyone's life time.

Also my friend gets RROD all the time he just Unplugs it plugs it back in and hes good for hours and he abuses his xbox system. . .
Still for the vast majority of the PS3s out there there are no problems. Those that you showed that was with out a doubt broken are the first wave of units. Which is always plagued with defects as they are rushed out too quickly.
Since then the amount of bad units is minute.
And not all of the problems with the x360 are with the solder. There are some bad drives and a lot do over heat and that's nothing to do with bad solder.
What your friend suffers from is overheating. That is why when it leave it off for a few mins and turns it back on it works.

Now if it was 250$ That is a Value cause at least it would make a Nice Blue Ray Disc Player. . . Not that I own any Blue Ray discs . . . Both DL and Blue ray will be obsolete . . . its inevitable so why get caught up in a format conflict.
More like a few years. They do have 1tb single layer optical disks in development but they wont be out on the market for nearly 10 years.
Until then you have HDDVD, BluRay, and one other form of data storage made in China. Now out of them which one is better? BluRay, because of the fact you can store 25gb per layer with up to 8 layers for a total of 200gb.
DL DVDs are at their limits. They cannot hold HD video and with games they are getting pressed for storage capacity.
Look at the game UT3. It's going to be on several DL DVDs for the PC and 1 BR on the PS3. Both will have the same content but when it comes to the x360 version of the game that will require 1 DL DVD to do the job, it wont cut it. Epic has announced that the x360 version of the game will lack a big chunk of the content because of it.
The extra storage of BR disks benefit greatly. Why? More data can be stored on it and less compression is needed. This means that you'll have more stuff, better audio, and faster load times.

And for BluRay. I try my best to get the BluRay version of movies. I haven't bought a regular DVD for myself in ages because of it. HD just owns when you watch movies at full 1080p.

Re: [360] xbox 360 problems?
You couldn't just take the olive branch ;) . . .
here we go.
Xbox 360 Video Chip = Better than Ps3 Video Chip . . . to me nothing else makes any differance at all as a game is only as good as it can be displayed and played. . .
Go have fun with a useless 9 core processor ( 8 with 1 disabled) nothing even uses it . . . just as is the case with quad core systems not being able to run games that well because the games are not programed to take advantage . . .
And I'll take the adaptive 512 mb Gddr3 Ram Of the Xbox 360 over the segmented 256 and 256 system in place on the ps3 any day. . .
Who needs:
Blue Ray
Sd Card readers
10 usb ports
And 5 Extra useless Processing Cores. . .
The Xbox 360 has 3 Usb Ports and they have more functionality built into them than 10 ps3 usb ports . . .
Xbox 360 is:
Ipod / External HDD Capable / Usb Keyboard capable . . . and they even sell special plug ins that let you use a mouse / Keyb In Fps Games . . .
What does the Ps3 do with all its ports ? Load Grandmas Photos? O how nice.
I can play TONS of media content off my Networked Pc's and External Drives and Mp3 Players, Dl Tons of Full Length Movies and even Purchase games Chat with friends, Live voice chat (VOIP), Leave Text/Audio Messages . . . The way the Ps3 even attempts to half of that is barbaric at best in execution.
So " go ahead and revolve around /hide behind the Cell Processor" if you ask me its not all that great for the hype it creates it sure falls short . . .
and keep bringing up failure stories of systems built over a year ago. . . anyways Intel claims 80 cores in around 3 - 4 Years. . . So figure in another year they will be running 8 to 16 Core systems on a 45nm lithography...(maybe even smaller who knows by then)
The PS3 is not ahead of its time its already Behind its time and its early failure will probably go down as sony's BIGGEST mistake Ever.

What good is having a fast GPU that can't be fed with enough data fast enough to make a difference.
There are quite a few of the new games out there that have a more constant FPS on the PS3 then the x360. Why is that even though the PS3 has a weaker GPU? It's because of the fact that the xeno GPU of the x360 cannot be fed data fast enough.
Now having a better GPU does not mean it has better graphics. It means that it can draw the screen at a higher FPS. Which in fact the x360 fails to do so.
That's because of 2 major things with the x360. It's weak CPU and it's low storage DVDs.
How does that make it happen? It's because to store data onto a DVD you need to compress it. So when you need to get the textures and models off of the disk the CPU needs to pull it off, decompress it, and send it to the GPU.
That causes tons of head room for the GPU and most of the time it's sitting idle. Which makes the superior power useless.
Now with the PS3 that's not the case. It does have a fast CPU and the BluRay disk allows it to have less compression. So it can strip the data from the disk, decompress it, and send it to the GPU much faster. Then it's down to the GPU to render it as fast as possible.
So end the end the PS3 better utilizes it's GPU then the x360 will ever.
So what about the first gen PS3 games that had horrible FPS? Well they were direct x360 ports. They didn't spend enough time to re-compress the game to fit the needs of the PS3. They ported it over and expected teh PS3 to run it the way the x360 ran it. So in the end it performed like crap and now they learned their lesson.

Since when does a quad core not being able to run games well? That's a joke right there. My QX6700 runs games better then my E6700 ever did. Why? Better off loading of the OS tasks. If a game is dual threaded then you have 2 cores for the game and 1 core for the OS with the other left idle.
That is much faster then on a dual core setup which needs to share OS tasks and game tasks.
Now how about coming up with a valid argument then something that is as half ass as that?

Guess what. Segmented RAM lets programming much easier. You know your boundaries and can adapt your code accordingly. Using dynamic allocation can lead to errors when something gets executed when it's not spoused to and takes up to much system resources.
Not to mention the difference between the two isn't even a valid argument. As there is no real gain of the other.

In fact the memory card reader is better then the old fashion ones the x360 uses. Why? Because it accepts any type you have, they are dirt cheap, and much smaller.
How much does a 512mb x360 memory card cost? $50
How much does a 2gb SD card cost? $20
I'll take the SD card any day. Why? 60% cheaper, 4x as much storage, and can be used in multiple devices and not just one thing.

It's 4 USB ports and not 10. And guess what. The x360 does not have enough ports. If you use wired controllers then you can have only a max of 3. Now if you add an MP3 player you loose a port. If you add a WiFi adapter you loose another one. Then you are left 1 for using a controller.
Look at Rock Band for instance. It has to be shipped with a USB hub because of the fact there is only 3 ports.

Useless my ass. They have many uses.
1) Audio
2) AI
3) Env Vars
4) GPU Feed
5) I/O
6) Data decompression
That's 6 things that can be done and then you have 1 more that can be used to back up any of them.

Guess what... The PS3 can do all of that also. And how do you add more functionality into a USB port? A USB port is a USB port. Now that's a plain stupid argument there.
And want to know something else? The PS3 doesn't even need it's 4 USB ports. Why? Any BluTooth device can connect to it. So no need to use cables.
So you can have a USB mouse, Keyboard, Headset, MP3 player, etc connected to it without wires.
Also... The PS3 has USB keyboard support before the x360.

Umm... The exact same thing the x360 can do and more. You can actually use USB devices and memory cards to store data from the HDD to it. Now can you do it with the x360 without voiding your warranty with hard mods? Nope.
Not just that but the PSP can also connect up to the PS3 and use it as a remote file server. Which the x360 just cannot do.

You should be slapped.
1) The PlayStation Store actually does it right. Both the XBL Store and the Wii Online Store are horrible in comparision.
2) The PS3 can also connect up to a media server just like the x360 does.
3) The PS3 can also run stuff off of external drives and MP3 players. Not just that but it can also back up to them. Which the x360 cannot do.
4) Yes the x360 can DL full length movies but the PS3 will be getting that in it's next update and you'll be able to use IPTV services also with it.
5) MS copied the idea of selling old games XBox games on XBL from Sony. You have been able to buy PSX games from the very beginning. Not to mention there are quite a few downloadable arcade games on the PS3 and you can even download full PS3 games off of it's store. Which you cannot do on the x360.
6) Text messages, audio messages, and VOIP has been on the PS3 from day one.
And guess what. None of it is half ass done. In fact the store is much better done.
Unlike with MS. Once you paid for something you can use it on any machine you log onto. Then any user on that machine has rights to it. Now with MS, it's not like that. Only the original machine allows all users to access the content. If you get a new machine then any additional users are not allowed to access it. Now that pissed me off because I bought myself Geometry Wars
and a bunch of Oblivion content off of XBL with my wife's account (as she demanded the points be put on her's) and when I had to get a new machine I no longer had access to any of it. Causing me to buy it all over again for myself.

Now how exactly does it fall short? It's the most powerful micro processor to date. 8 Cell processors can simulate 200 nodes (processors) of a super computer.
Explain that?
Not jut that. How come it can actually feed the PS3's GPU unlike the x360?
Explain that also?

Hell what does that have to do with anything you are aguing? In 4 years there will be a next generation of consoles.

Read up. 45nm cannot handle 8 cores. Nor can it handle 16. In a year you'll have dual threaded quad cores. Maybe at the very end of the year you might see a 35nm 8-core CPU.

Now how is it behind it's time?
The Cell processor is the most power and efficient CPU out there and will be like that for a few years to come.
Why else would IBM be using them only in their highest end blade servers and mini computers?
And how is it a mistake and even a failure. The machine is successful. Believe it or not. It's doing it's major goal. To build a strong BluRay front.
Now argue all you like. BluRay will be the next optical standard and replace the DVD. And it's all thanks to the PS3.

I'm neither a Sony or a MS fanboy. If a fanboy comes along saying one thing is better then the other, I will argue the total opposite. And guess what. What I am saying is actually true because I have researched this topic in depth and I have had tons of experience with all of the systems.
There has been only 1 major system that I have not had experience with and that's the SEGA Saturn and that wasn't even a major system as it was a major failure for SEGA. Mainly due to their no marketing approach to it's launch.

Blu-Ray discs are uncompressed. you can play all the way through uncharted with loading but 1 time. Blu-Ray is constantly read. and i heard the Cell can help the RSX process the graphics itself. and if the RSX uses all the 256Mb ram it can use some of the Cells 256Mb ram. but the Cell can't use the RSX's ram
and if the X360 has the best graphics then show me a 360 game and compare it to uncharted...

Final post in this... again, call Microsoft to get it repaired. If you still want to fix it yourself then find a forum where people actually do that themselves.
