Overclocked Old system for fun XD
Well I have been neglecting my old desktop for a few months now since I got my new one . . . so I figured hmm what could I do that would be fun on it?
So I was like hey why not Oc it a little to see what it can run at ;)
The results surprised me somewhat and in actuality I can run some games respectably nice.
Bellow are the achieved results :) nothing outstanding but I thought Id share.
also everything is Stock Cooling with the exception of the Video card ;)
Gpu Temps 50c Idle / Cpu temps 58c Idle 65+ Under heavy Load. . .
Video Card Overclock (Using AtI Tool)
Video Card Make/Model = Asus Eax800xt 256 Pciex
Standard Clock Speeds 500/500
Achieved Stable Overclock 567mghz (core) / 548mghz (Memory)
Sadly I could not make it stabalize to 560mghz Memory speed which would of essentialy turned it into an X800 xt Platinum Edition ;/ o well. . .
Also I Ramped up the Pciex Frequency to 115 from 100 (still testing how far I can push that)
Cpu Make ( Pentium 4 3.4Ghz 1mb Cache HT 800 Fsb) (old I know)
Achieved Over clock 3.71 Ghz 860? Fsb around there forgot number since last test.
So all In all its a fairly respectable system again XD
Asus P5ad2 - E Premium Motherboard
3.71 Ghz P4 HT
567core/548mem/Gpu x800 xt
2gb Ram @~ 860? Fsb ~ 566? MGhz
The Ram Is running in Dual Channel and it isn't even Ram made for overclocking . . just good old Kingston Value select Ram . . .
Im looking around my basement now for a bunch of old systems to OC for fun ;) My only regret is that I didn't OC it back when it was Brand New so I could of enjoyed the results ;P
Anyone else have any interesting Oc Stories?/ Experiences ?
Re: Overclocked Old system for fun XD
Now does that system run Prime95 for 24 hours without fail? :1:
NoPeace - out
Re: Overclocked Old system for fun XD
Aren't you supposed to lock the PCIe freq to about 100?
Re: Overclocked Old system for fun XD
Been Running for a day and half just fine . . . its not THAT overclocked ;)
Also I been reading around on the operating Frequency for Pciex It seems relatively safe to run it around 115 . . . and I have seen No bad side effects .. . i should really run a 3d mark test to see what if any tangible gains i get. . .
Re: Overclocked Old system for fun XD
Push it till it can go any further! Then bench and then clock down to a stable 24/7 clock :)
Look here for some inspiration!

That's your CPU model isn't it? ;)
Re: Overclocked Old system for fun XD
HAHAHAH 5 Ghz that guy must have his computer submerged in liquid Nitrogen wtf lol. . . I'll try to push it as far as it can go and stay stable in terms of Cpu clock speeds. . . but Ima stay on Stock cooling so I am somewhat limited ;P
Hmm

5ghz is not unheard of, pretty sure the pentium D's could go up to 7... and thats on air.

No Way on AIR you would hit temps around 80 - 90 C!!!>?
In aether case even if yo pumped it to 5 - 6ghz I wouldn't think a P4 HT will last very long running that hard on Air cooling alone. o0
Update:
i Attempted
4.0Ghz
Dram Freq 626 Mghz
FSB @ 941 ;)
It booted and Ran ( for a while) but was Unstable. ( I tried small hops in increments till i reached a stable speed of 3.8 GHz) Not fast at all =/
Heat didn't seem to be an Issue and well it was not stable . . . most probably fails because of the Ram being elcheapo Ram not made for Overclocking.
At the end the highest stable Settings achieved where.
3.8 Ghz @ 901 Fsb
Dram @ 600 from 533
Idle Temps 63C Load Temps 69C -> 72C ( BUt its LOUD because of variable Fan Speed to keep it at those temps)
Hmm after further testing.
I am actually surprised at the lack of Heat at higher temperatures maybe Im wrong I think you can run at least 4.5 ghz with air cooling XD I doubt 5 tho . . .
At the end I think I will keep it around 3.6 - 3.7 as I don't Notice much performance improvements and I prefer to keep my ability to hear ;)
I Have a feeling that with good ram and better cooling I could probably Push it to around 4.7 - 5 ghz Maybe one day I'll make a project of it ;P

Current WR

But still, Intel said the P4 would clock up to 10Ghz so it's a failure!
And if you like % overclock check this

Re: Overclocked Old system for fun XD
Damn whats your setup ? 8 ghz? Thats nice what kinda cooling setup you using?
what Ram / mobo? o0
Re: Overclocked Old system for fun XD
As said it's the world record :P It's not my rigg. They were using L2 and the best of the best to get that far. Nothing you do unless you got way to much money!
