Mhm.
I just got my computer upgraded, and I just can't make up my mind of which I want:
- Windows XP
or
- Windows Vista
COMPUTER SPECS:
- 1GB RAM
- 250GB HDD
- Gaming Graphics Card (not sure how much).
Please post your ideas.

Personally, I'd Stick with WinXP
XP Definitely.
I use Vista, no problems.
All of my programs have run perfectly with it, and none of my hardware was incompatible.
DirectX 10 is Vista only isn't it? Go with Vista IMO.

If you start with Vista, you'll probably eventually end up upgrading to XP to get away from a heap of frustrating problems. Might as well save some time and start on XP. :thumb:
The ONLY, repeat ONLY reason to have Vista on a PC (in dual-boot of course, you wouldn't want to be stuck with it 24/7) is if you have a specific game or app that requires it (and even then not after searching the net for any possible tweak that will let you run it on XP SP2/SP3). And even then the only reason people are actually developing for vista is because Micro$haft is throwing their weight around trying to force people to 'upgrade' - XP already does everything that 99% of people (including gamers) want or need, which is why they've only been able to advertise ethereal crap about vista like the gui (there are apps for XP that'll let you skin your desktop to look better than vista anyway).
I hold several IT-related qualifications and have been hacking/tweaking windows PCs for 10+ years, and even I haven't had much luck getting that bitch of an OS working well on my lil brother's computer. (tripled the ram, tweaked settings etc, still chews up tonnes of resources for no good reason and often lags switching between even just 2 or 3 running programs, takes 5+ seconds to copy a single 1MB file, ... it shits me just thinking about vista, it's such a waste of space on a PC).

XP's been out for like years longer and already vista has more problem results. :tongue:
XP ... Even tho i got Vista.. But it SUCKS ASS! Microsoft can see witch file u have downloaded unless you hack your OWN fucking pc.
With only 1 gig of ram id stick with XP until Vista SP1 is out of beta. From the leaked beta we see that there are a ton of performance tweaks that are included in it.
The only reason why you would need Vista at the moment would be if you required DX 10, but even then you can find cracks for Vista only games to run on the XP OS.
Simple question is do you want 64-bit OS or a 32-bit OS. That is what determines which to get.
And if you want 64-bit then you better have at least 4gb of RAM or otherwise it will be pointless.
I personally like Vista 64-bit. Never had much problems with and it runs just fine for me and at times better then XP. Hell at the moment I'm using XP and it's annoying the hell out of me because of how some of my programs wont run on it.
Go figure I can run more games on Vista with my setup then XP. Not to mention I actually do need to access all 4gb of my RAM instead of just 2.7gb of it. :glare:
I'll probably go back to Vista soon and once I upgrade to 8gb I wont go back to XP other then to bench new hardware.

Windows Xp really. But I am on Vista coz I got 8 GB RAM and it really makes it easy. So for 1 GB - stick to XP coz Vista turns out to be real irritating.

I'm on Vista x64, and using 1 GB total mem ;o
But my Vista is tweaked, and on average/idle'ing I'm using just over 40%. Don't really play much games, but once I upgrade to 4 GB (in 2-3 weeks) I'll probably be back playing some (even though I don't have 2 GB or more, I still manage just fine..)
