A wired mouse always wins.
A wireless often goes down in "sleep" mode and if you play you will feel a little "lag" (like when camping on CS and you wanna put a quick HS but your mouse doesn't follow). But this ofcourse is depending on the mouse itself. My old wireless MS mouse went into sleepmode after about 10 seconds making it worhtless for gaming. Next one I had was a logitech which hadn't that problem.
In any case the batteries WILL run out when gaming which sucks.
Word, I'd pick a wired mouse of any wireless ANY day. Have been using a MX518 for a while now (bought 3 of them cause I liked it so much), and never went back to wireless (had some combo thingy from logitech, but it ended up raping batteries).
I prefer wireless mice to wired. Why? No cord to get in the way of fast movements.
As for sleep mode. Look into the drivers and disable it... Very simple solution.

Do you like not having a cord in the way? Get a G7
Otherwise get a G5.
I personally have a G7 and it only takes about 5-10 seconds to change the batteries once you get it down to a fine art :)
the gun mouse !

Very good point guys.
I would go with wireless in a few years as it wud be more advanced and batteries will last longer and signal strength wud be better
I didn't mean I hate wireless. There are actually very good ones. But as I have it now I have no problem with the cord and as that is (for me) the only thing wireless got over wired I have no use of a wireless one :)
That is indeed impressive. My G7 needs a change every 1-2 days now as I've worn the batteries down quite a lot, and from experience normal mice with 2x AA batteries die within about 3 days to a week.
wired for the fucking win. I recommend the SteelSeries IKARI instead of the G5, getting one very soon when my MX510 breaks.
That why i sed get one in a few years as batteries will last ages e.g. 1-2 years. As they will make them so they use less power.
You do realise that you won't see a huge difference in batteries in just 1-2 years, batteries ain't like chips, they don't constantly make improvements. You would have to wait for a new type of battery to make it big before you see huge differences.
Oh and the power consumption of the mouse itself won't go down much either.
Anyway i'm a fan of wired, then again i got enough room for my whole cord to stretch out, and thus it's not in the way, but if your mouse is infront something then i suggest going wireless.
Ofcourse that's if you are a hardcore gamer, if you die most of the time because you just suck then i i would take the wireless. ;)
I've had G7 for about a year now and the only bad thing about it is that for some weird reason they've removed the forward button from it. D'oh!
Anyhow I just love it love it love it. It doesn't 'sleep' in a noticeable way in middle of gaming, it's light weight, it slides perfectly over a good mouse pad (of course this is the same with G5) and batteries will never be an issue, either because it comes with two: while you're using one the other is comfortably getting recharged and in fact the mechanism for replacing is done so well it's actually fun (and swift) to switch batteries.
To compare G5 and G7 especially of course the only difference is the wire, and let me tell you this: ever since I picked up G7 I'll never have to consider a wired mouse again. Like NoPeace already said, it's a huge plus when the wire doesn't get in the way of free movement. Whatever you do with a cord it's always adding weight.
