Why is it called football?
Why the "american football" its called "football" i mean... i saw a few matches and almost all the time they grab the ball with the hands, only a few kicks.
So i have that doubt... shouldnt it be called "handball" ?

Re: Why is called football?
I know..it makes no sense lol.
Soccer is the real Football...because you use your feet to play with the little ball.
I'm going to assume that they named it Football, because of the one play or two plays...where they actually kick the ball..:S

Re: Why is it called football?
The global name for football is of course football. The global name for american football is gridiron. Gridiron is a code of handball and not football.
Football is a sport where players control the ball with their feet and only football does this. Handball is where hands are used to control a ball.
AFL, Aussie rules Footy.. Is used with your feet and hands, but to score a goal you earn more points with your feet(6), and hand balled (1 pointless....).

No, Gridiron is A lot different, In rugby You are not allowed to throw the ball forward, And you cannot complete fuck people up when you tackle them, Also there have a different game layout. However there is a lot of resemblence.

Re: Why is it called football?
I think thats not even a answer to his question and that you shouldnt fuckin double post.
Gridiron is called football because its basically a newer version of English Rugby, which has you using you feet more, and there is no forward passing.

Anyways, you all are wrong. Football/Soccer are nicknames, its called "Association football".
You crazy Europeans :P Its just a name, who gives a shit what other people call it. Its like saying you dont like a language because you dont understand, the world doesnt conform to one universal standard.
