If there are servers like WOWscape, what is even the point of having a small private server? I am not being morbid but how can you even get your server to get people, with servers like that?
I am just being realistic, is it all...just I don't know, how good you advertise? What content you offer?

i got better answer it is all $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ thats all u need to make your server so popular ......mclarkey08 and WoWscape is NOT owned by burlex he is Just managin the server :P as he told me on the IRc :P

wowscape's owner is Peyton , and you dont need so much $$$$$$$$ for good server

We do all right with a peak online population in the mid 900's
WoWScape is a blizzlike server. The only way to compete with them is to either get their server files and then add some more custom instance/loot, or to make a funserver. Which, imo, is what all private servers should be.
i wouldnt mind hearing about hwo people drive some traffic to their sites though. can have all the custom or blizzlike stuff you want but if you cant get your name out no one will log on.

Haha that's simple, start out with real wow friends who you trust the most, and then they'll get their best friends on the server, etc etc, and once you have 30-40 friends on, you start advertising with banners and youtube videos :D

Another thing, it takes no money at all, there is LOW LOW LOW easy ways, like advertising on sites, servers, etc. Word of mouth.
I have a question, what type of speed of connection (in megabits, down and up) and computer specs would you need to at least hold 1000 people, and no more?
um Toxic Wow isn't the best they just run a Bot net to get votes lol
I would start at www.wowstatus.net | World Of WarCraft - Private Server Status | your source for private WoW servers. there you can put out ur server, and then, after a while maybe get some server equipments, start using paypal, then put ur server on top 100 lists.^^Quote:

People make server not always to make them zOMG MY SERVER IS NUMBA 1!!
Some people, just like me.. Just have it to test things out. Or for a LAN party, or for a few friends.

Well keep dreaming Burlex will never release that core either that DB it will never get out unless it will be leaked by somone.
Ascent core atm is crap just becose they dont want people to have an core like wowscape becose then they will lose income :D
Did you never noticed that 1 momment things are fixed and 2-10 revs later they are bugged again? Its done on purpose you know. I know people wont belive me but play on wowscape and see what they have working in the core witch is ascent and than ask yourself why it is not working in ascent SVN. I have noticed that an few times now and thats why i switched back to MaNGoS however even the svn is buged as hell it still is an nice core for an full blown funserver whith 200+ people on it. Till somone can prove im wrong i will stay on mangos :D
Well still want to thanx ascent team for there work becose it would be wrong and imoral to not respect the work that they did/do on the emu so far and in the future.
I hope he releases it I am dead in the water with all my friends until he does, no one is willing to downgrade to 2.3. They all want to pay for the game for some reason and not play on a private server for free, I don't know why.
when i started my private server it was just me and a few mates from retail but then i put my server on wowstatus.net and lots of people started coming on it...
yea...i like ascent..mangos is too buggy/laggy..hence why most, if not all servers use ascent.
so far the only issue i really see with ascent is that if you do have problems and its a time like now that burlex brings the boards down GL getting help. its harder to find a central location of people willing to help with ascent and are decent at C++
Burlex do this things all the time when wowscape earned money running on ascent he even closed the svn now wowscape server is his main project he would be stupid when he released that core and that DB it is his income now you know.
If things dont go as HE wants the svn/forums or whatever go down not to mantion that he will engourage people to ddos the site that dont do what he said remember the war with silvermoon. Even Ragezone have done what he said by removing the leacked stuff back then. People dont be afrait of an 16 year old that things the world turns round him becose sooner or later he will meet somone that dont accept his behavior and than what i never will give in to what Burlex will say if it comes to that point. This is not an post against Ascent but this are simple facts that evryone that followed ascent from the begining knows. As said before Ascent team also derserve respect for the work they done and still do with the core. If we get to the point where wowscape is now i will doubt that becose it will be in conflict with Burlex own purpose witch is making money with ascent and as mutch as posble witch would also be my priority purpose if i was him as well. Becose lets be honest who wold not have that dream making money with somthing you have made :D
The biggest change I see in burlex since he joined ascent as a dev [in antrix rev 342 ish], is that he used to be in it for the community, his fellow team members, and for OPEN SOURCE. Burlex is starting to think like "Hey, I made this, why should I share what I made to the community? They sure as hell cant do nothing about it", even though not releasing his source on request is illegal according to his license, which he HAS to follow even if he is the license holder.
Ascent will slowly die..or at least the public version.
