Hey :)

Me & Cody have planned to create a project together with ASP.NET/ASP.

At the moment we have planned together a colour scheme & the website will be able to help you with guides/tutorials/code issues etc.. and more :) for about anything, right now though, the site is going through HTML and then being transformed into ASP.NET. Just so we can get the style etc.

The website is in its VERY earliest of stages and is under alot of heavy work. On that picture you can see that the left & right is very dull. After logging in, the page will then (without refreshing) log you in and display your user/account details fed from a MSSQL database while it slides slowly to the side and gives you a full navigation system for your use. A phpbb forum will be available to it, but we are thinking of creating a forum either using asp - sounds abit stupid but hey! you never know. Or buy a licensed vB.

If this is the wrong place please move, & i fully apologize.

The site should be completely perhaps, late 2009 or in the early 2010.

Sounds good, but your timescale is rather large. Late '09? Are you sure you would work together for that long?

Its a 2 man job, and we are fairly new to ASP.NET. Though i know HTML/CSS/AUTOIT3 and in some way, some of that will help :P.

Our development schedule is MASSIVE than what you think it is.

For our forum & website. We want our website not to just GO to that page, but to bring that page to us. Without reloading or redirecting users to save on traffic use for everyone :). The information is fed through MSSQL and/or MySQL. The whole idea of this project is to make it as easy as possible to navigate without having to be lost around the website and using a "Search" menu of some sort, though one will be available.
AJAX popups and stuff will be used and updating process panels will be shown to show the user the progress of the website fetching the information and how complete it is.
Late 09 may be our opening date, because at the moment, the way me and cody is working is full time. We have no extra time to be doing this, but like everyone else that has nothing to do, we start messing around. This is what we call messing around :wink:.

Once the forum & website is complete, we will sell it and it will not be open source. Its a two man project, and the site wont contain any HQ images or just have a plain text view. The forum & website will be completely customizable with styled sheets and editing the aspx file itself.

It all sounds promising, but don't get your hopes up. Hopefully me nor cody will quit on this. We are not looking for help, but if we will, RaGEZONE users will be the first to know what positions are available. (Moderation/Administrator/WebDesigner etc)

Will you be using currently available forum software or your own developed forum software? And just out of general interest, what's the 'theme' of your forum & site? Like gaming?

Our own development software.

The theme of our site is nothing but general colour's. Because we don't want to target our audience into thinking we only made it for one thing and one thing only. Like you do for clans and shit. But the forum software that will become available and whomever buys it can do what the hell they want with it. They can style it to make it a WoW Site. A CoD2 site. Whatever they want it for.

But GoEasy/SoEasy will be based on everyone audience. Plus, we're not entirely sure on this, but if a user creates a theme for their forum then GoEasy/SoEasy will make it available to use on our forum to so people can have their style of board while browsing their best site *cough* :wink:

The site will contain guides/help/interest on anything & everything. (Apart from Warez n Porn. [VIP SECTION ONLY :wink:])

Nice idea, though the time scale is indeed a bit long ^^.

Few questions:
- Why would you buy vB licence if SimpleMachines is nearly as good? (phpbb is one of the worst...)
- Why do you prefer ASP above PHP, and MSSQL above MySQL?
- Why would this project take you almost 2 years? Thats a timescale for a complete game.
- How will it be constumizable? Do you use a template engine?
- How do you prevent people from spreading the sources if they buy it? Or is it all hosted on your server?

- Why do you prefer ASP above PHP, and MSSQL above MySQL? = The tools we are using provide us with help with MSSQL rather than MySQL. But that wont stop us, we will create one for each if we have to. The reason we are using ASP is because me and cody cannot be bothered to learn php or continue learning it. What we saw was capable with ASP.NET from Microsoft Videos caught our interests imminently than what we saw with PHP.

- Why would this project take you almost 2 years? Thats a timescale for a complete game. = Because it is a 2 man job & none of us have the time to get this complete in a 1 year scale. Though we could always try. I have personal issues to deal with first, but the idea of templates & design is also a hazard to get this complete on time.

- How will it be constumizable? Do you use a template engine? = The way PHPBB and vB is customizable is how the forum & website will be customizable. Simply changing images/html/asp code etc.

- How do you prevent people from spreading the sources if they buy it? Or is it all hosted on your server? = The source will be made so it has to use a license key and the license keys are held on paper with names and addresses of the purchaser. Rather than being on the server/site. It will have a large series of code to stop users that haven't purchased it from being able to have it active. So if you was to of fetched the forum & website from a warez website, and installed it and tried to use a provided key, it wouldn't work because it either in use by another forum or doesn't exist. We will check the license keys from every purchaser to see if the site is valid or not.

Ah, I don't know how ASP.NET differs from ASP / PHP, its your choice really. Just what I want to say: don't choose the one that looks best / has the best advertisement. Choose the one which performs the best and has the best set of features you need to use. PHP doesn't really advertise, it's open-source and free.

How would you do that? Simply setting an IF statement? Someone can easily erase the IF and it will work without a licence key. Check via your server if the licence is valid? They than too can erase that part.

Only way I could think of, is making the code depend on a part that is given by the server. Server would authenticate the license...then still someone can rewrite the part your server has to do...

Unless I miss something, I don't see how you could make this secure.

The keys are not generated at all and they wont be generated. All keys will be made by hand and contain a 25digit number & letter scheme. The effect of authorizing the key will checked upon the database and ask for evidence if it is truly that user/buyer of the key, if no proof can be found. No activation.

I've seen what ASP.NET can do that differs from PHP. Its rather neat actually.

User Buys Software > User waits for Key (24hours)
We input key into database with users information and send the key to user.
User then uses key > Software Reads Key from MSSQL/MySQL database holding it. IF key = true then Software < sends back information and Software becomes activated.

Make sence? :P

Makes Sense to me x]. Some of what your talking about, is even news to me :P. Im in this for the long haul. I have no plans on Qutting this project. btw, if were shootin for user convienience. the 24 waiting period? might that drive some users away? Mabey not though, because im sure we will offer alot, that will make the 24 hour wait for there code, worth it. For what we have planned. im sure it wont effect it too much. other then the fact the few impatient freaks out there :P.

Yeah i see what you mean, but with me being a UK resident etc and you being in America well. :P, there is a 5/8hour time difference. When you fall to sleep is when i wake up :P. No escaping time here :lol:

When summer rolls round on June 6th. We will be working Full Blast! besides the fact i have a job. i work nights and even after work ill be up till 2-3 x] So yeah. Full Time Here. Things will pick up and mabey we can make a set date? mabey not. only time will tell.

Yes. RaGEZONE is our first priority of open development. You people here will be the first to know if there is any open positions available & who and when people get paid etc if it follows.
