Even though the UK had the train bombings shortly after 9/11, despite having already seen precedent for terrorist-attacks, I'd still have to go with the UK on "what is safer". Great thanks to the recent increase in military funding of "Non-Lethal-Weapons" (in other words, potentially non-lethal, sort of like how a bullet might not kill you). And the fact that these weapons are being actively used against protesters (see 2007 Free Trade protest in New York, and how police broke it up).

UK has no guns :S
I'd have to go with US.. UK has those wacky football fans ..
Anyway, I will move to US in a few years I think.. still don't know what state tough .. maybe new york ? california ? florida ? no idea ..
Well firstly it would depend on what part you live in and "safety" more than often depends on the individual in question.
Well where does all the gun shooting happend? Where some crazy dude gets a gun and start shooting every living thing in his school.
Certainly not uk =o
I say UK even though I live in Canada. Reason you ask? US has a lot of smokers witch pollutes our air. An also they have a lot of over weight people. UK is better :D. I think UK has a lot has more rites. But Canada is the best for life :D. Unless George Bush comes to Canada and kills us because we are better :D.
Actually I voted for USA, I understand the crime rate is through the roof, but when you think about it, that's usually in major cities, also with that amount of people it probably works out level with the U.K, or even less! I doubt anyone ever had the time to work it out, considering you would have to look at census, crime rate, crimes per annum, etc.
I've seen those; although America isn't on the top ten in the worst criminal case countries in the world, it still beats the UK... and has more people in prison to this day than many other countries.
Go live in Johannasburg [sp] :o
1. USA has guns.
2. USA has more terrorism than UK. Note how all terrorists are anti American, not anti UK.
3. USA still has guns.
Does not matter how strict their gun laws are in the USA, people can still buy them. Yes the "Dangerous" people may not be allowed to get them, but they know where you live. And if you have a gun, they will break into your house and get it if they really want to. As long as the public has access to them, i do not see how it can be safe.
I definitely vote UK. Though i prefer Australia any day.
@ #1
So does the UK.
@ #2
Train bombings. Terrorist most certainly are anti-UK.
@ #3
Guns aren't the killers, people are. (e.g., Jack the Ripper)
UK has Glasgow and other cities.
America has hunting wih allows people to have guns to shoot deer etc...
Or people
Unless all you guys have lived in both, in every state and stuff, then your opinion is biased, since you have it from one point of view.
Or we could just look at statistical surveys, which are in abundance, to review crime rates, histories of violence, etc.
Serious gun crime up in the UK - Blogger News Network
US. Seen the videos & actually the people there. That is where mafian stays!
why cant we all move to canada >.> safe as hell
any ways usa were i live it's like 1 shooting a day so i would not say usa is safe and also every stupid moron with a gun is protected by the first - right to bear arm's crap and there is the NRA who is all high on drugs to back up these morons. they wont even allow states to pass laws so that if you gun gets lost or stolen you have to report it so i would have to say uk cause of less morons
Hmm. In mind I was thinking about " Zombie Thingyz " =) So USA is still safer!
@ Jessin
It's the second amendment that guarantees one the right to bear arms. Not the first.
As to members of the NRA... virtually none of them take drugs, as their rules & regulations forbid them from taking drugs & being a member.
As to people shooting each other... guess what; if you took away their guns, then they would be stabbing each other. If somebody wants to kill another person... they are going to find a way to do it. It isn't the gun that kills, it is the person pulling the trigger.
To make it known that a large population owning firearms doesn't result in violence... take my home state for example: Michigan. Here in Michigan, we have the largest militia in the world, and a massive number of gun freaks who own weapons of various sorts. With that said, we still have fewer gun crimes than states with stricter gun laws.
Bad statistics taint gun control debate - Opinion
Even so, the US is still pretty dangerous... and I'd rather live elsewhere.
This isn't something that is debatable, as safety is a relative term. If I lived in a bomb shelter in the USA would I be safer than if I lived normally in the UK?
No. Somebody could open the door to get to you, or the door get stuck shut & you starve to death. ^^
Heheh, I know what you mean, Kaoii. This is more of an opinionated, and unarguable point. I've read about kids in the UK who snapped and killed their families over getting grounded, and in the US we have people snap and go nuts at their schools, because they can't handle bullying or won't seek help.
Completely wrong.
With a gun, you can be over a block away, shoot someone, then run off without being seen.
With a knife, you have to REALLY hate someone to plunge a sharp object into them and get their blood allover you, and all that with you being within arm shot range of them to fight back.
It takes a different type of person to stab someone than it does to just squeeze a trigger. Every 48 hours a child is killed in the US because of a firearm accidentally going off. Still say the gun doesn't kill? Yes, the other child playing next to it really had homicidal thoughts, didn't it?
Also, how many schools in USA have guards who screen and check you as you enter the school? Compared to how many in the UK? If thats not an indication of how safe a country is, i don't know what is.
But still Us is safer. Because people their are strong & also the buildings are so safe!
Is that the best you can come up with? people are strong in the US?
It doesn't matter where you live there's always a chance of terrorism in any country of the world, I come from Australia though we have haven't had any major terrorism acts besides one Australian who was in jail for like 7 years for training with the Taliban but never fired a weapon.
In terms of this _debate_ (which its more like a biased judgement) there really can't be an answer as they are both susceptible to terrorist acts and what not, I feel that the UK is _safer_ in terms of people depending on which area you live in, at the moment the presidential election is coming up and that could be a huge gap for terrorists around the world, America is the biggest country invading Iraq and terrorists will focus more on America then the UK due that that.
Or you use a crossbow, or Composite Longbow. Those aren't too hard to handle effectively. Or you poison them. Or you run them over. As I said, if somebody wants to kill another person... they are going to do it.
What relevance does an accident have on safety in a country...? Unless, of course, you are talking about natural disasters. An accident is just that; something that happened by chance, and can happen absolutely anywhere, and to anyone.
And for the guards for schools...
A ten second google search revealed over six schools in the UK with guards screening and patrolling.
A five minute google search revealed one school in relation to corrupt police guards beating a little black girl, who are white (so, racists, more or less), and also calling her a nappy-head (racial slur). Everything else in relation to guards, or security personnel, for some strange reason, directs me to basketball related events...
Those are the things we want to look for, when deciding which country is most dangerous or most safe. Do you fit the ethnicity or political mind track best associated with your country (assuming it lacks a bill of rights; if it has one, then don't bother reading this last question)?
I'm too tired reading all your message T_T. Still Us is the safiest!
And I'm too tired to make another one.
Although I know America isn't the most dangerous, I also know it isn't the best. US citizens are used to locking their doors with deadbolts... Canadians are used to leaving them unlocked, no matter the occasion. The only way to put yourself into danger, whilst in Canada, is by playing hockey... who knows? You might slip up and lose a finger to the skates. ^^
Nah. I vote for US! Still!
Even though i live in teh us, I vote for UK they have no guns and terrorists seem to like George Bush?
How can you say that UK is free of terrorist after the terrorists made clear that they were trying to blow up the London train station(s) I think they call them the London tube (sorry having a total mental blank at the moment)
To be honest guys, it ain't safe ANYWHERE. Just about ANYWHERE, you can get stabbed, beaten, robbed, and even shot. It doesn't matter, UK, USA, Israel, Europe... every country got it's share of place where it's dangerous, no matter where you live. Hell, my own friends nearly got robbed a few days ago, and last year, me and my friends nearly got all stabbed after a gig at which we performed, and that was at the safest place you can think of. And that's why I didn't vote for neither the UK nor the USA.
Id say UK btw, its not guns, its nice and its not so ncie seeing a sliced up person being sliced to death for no reason watsoever..
But usa have gun shops, like anyone can get a gun, pathetic, and the gangs..
There are many things for this.
i live 10 mins away from a wood where terrorists were hiding suitcases full of bombing equipment.
but then again, what i got from that title, it isnt just terrorism, its everything else.
guns are illegal here, but over there, drive bys ect ect.
i live in a particually bad place so yeah.....
but thats no excuse. England is getting as bad as USA and thats quite bad, as were a smaller country!
Well USA has to many people with guns for my liking...however soon Uk will have too many terrorists on each street corner :)
America just has tons of gangs depends
city = gangs
country = Crazy ass hill billys
lmao yeah. cor where ever yo go in USA you just meet crazed up people!
Well the fact that houses in the US are mostly not made of brick (besides metal?) would make me feel uncomfortable even in a non tornado zone =P I think we've only had like a barn and some old pub damaged by tornadoes over the last decade.
Neither is "safe", but I guess the UK has better laws on keep Britains safe.
The amount of killings in New York is about the same in a London alleyway.
So, UK is my anwser.
lets see let me start of by asking u what reasons do u think owning a gun for is right?
next a u need to visit schools where i live every school in state got metal dectator , scanners.
and w.e the NRA what was it going to colambin after a week after the shooting to show how owning gun's is good nice move on them don u think?
and what was that the white kids hanging nuces in school and jus cause the black kid got into a fight with him in School which should deal with suspention or expllesison in school he was send to jail wtf is up with that?
sorry my spelling is horrible and also i don want u to get or want this getting out of hand jus want a normal debate
USA 5.9 vs 2.03 UK - Homicide rate per 100,000 (wiki)
Almost three times more likely to be murdered in the US... =/
Crash
@ People who say UK doesnt have guns
Police DO have guns although they only use them in dangerous situations
You can also buy guns ilegally or legally with a license
Unfortunately, I believe that there are more dangerous things in the US than just guns.
The IRS, CIA, FBI, the Patriot Act, George Bush, Corporations... just to name a few of them...
I'll elaborate on any of the above if you're interested in them...
- For the purpose of enforcing the constitution, defending your home, your family, and yourself, from those who seek the destruction of the afore mentioned entities. If, as a human being, your power is forcefully curbed by another human being, who retains the same power him/herself, but unchecked, then you are viable to be exploited and enslaved. Saying one group of people may not have guns, but another should, is hypocrisy at its finest. Thankfully, you aren't saying that; and I hope you never do say that. ^^
- My school doesn't have any metal detectors, and I live in Michigan; we have the largest militia in the world, and a significant number of gun owners. In-fact, if you do some elementary research on guns, you'll discover that in civilized nations with more lenient gun control laws, their gun crimes have actually decreased, as opposed to those with stricter gun control laws.
- What about the US military teaching Iraqi soldiers how to fight and kill their enemies, despite the Iraqis experiencing genocides? The N.R.A teaching gun safety and the benefits of owning a gun does not equate to homicidal-mania. When you get down to it, only a human being can commit murder; an inanimate, inorganic object cannot commit a crime. So, rather than trying to strip people of their freedoms, and curb their power to defend themselves, you should concentrate on counseling programs for those select few who could potentially hurt those around them.
The fact that you can make high grade explosives right at home, with very little expense, shows that stricter gun control won't stop those who wish to kill from killing.
- What do a bunch of insecure hicks, and a kid with more melanin in his skin than those hicks, fighting have to do with guns?
- Yes, your spelling is poor; I responded to your questions with answers, to the best of my ability (excluding the insecure white kids, since that wasn't at all related to this thread; I remember reading about them in the news though, so I know what you are talking about).
wow theres been more crane collapses and stuff in america
I'd Say UK, We Get Away With Anything, Police Dont Have Guns.. PMSL. There Bastards In The UK
UK is safer than the USA.
1) USA have guns, while many parts of England does not.
2) There are over 1.5 billion men/women there who are mostly kidnappers/drunk/murderers.
3) UK is far smaller than USA, there's also less chance of bad men coming here at UK.
It's a bit obvious anyway. There is a 35% chance of you getting killed in USA, since many have guns. (I think Guns are legal there).
well it was nice to find out right when i was about to write that a cop jus got shot and died =(
well i would say that NRA has its good about safety and all but when they put enough pressure that laws on gun laws rn't getting past then there is a problem. my city Philadelphia just passed a law i believe that says that if a gun owner looses his/her gun he/she has to report it. this law or w.e is gona get shot down because people don like it >.> easier for them to jus sell it some thing as more and more gun enter the nation more and more chances that these gun r getting into the wrong hands. so even though someone may buy it to defend there home and family another can just get it by breaking in and stealing it or even from some one on the street. problem also occurs when some 1 needs $ and wants to get rid of the gun they can get higher amounts of it on the street.
if only cops and officals had gun do you think that these bad people would get it?
.......
Is it really necessary for you to spout such irrationally malicious figures? If there was a thirty-five-percent chance of dieing in the United States, from a gun, just for being there... I should have at least three dead siblings, who'd died thanks to guns (instead, I have only one deceased sibling, who died in a car crash, with no no weapons of any sort involved or on the scene).
Also... you should check out a map sometime...
Although there may be more deaths, overall, related to any given cause-of-death, in the US versus the UK... but then again, the UK only has about sixty-million people, while the US has over three-hundred-million. Ratio-wise, we're just about the same.
Even though I argue statistics, in defense of my country, I still feel the US (as I have previously stated) to be more dangerous than many other nations. ^^
If only cops and agents of the Government had firearms (aka power), then we wouldn't have any freedoms whatsoever. If people can automatically be considered "bad" for desiring a means to protect themselves as well as their family and friends... then sure, "bad people" would still get guns, through the blackmarket (if that is what your question was): being oppressed and forced into a position where you can only live if you say "yes" would also make the "bad people" get it (if that was your question).
I hate the flame u guys are giving to guns ... Guns dont kill people .. people do whether its a knife a bomb or a gun if some one has the intent on taking a life they will its just how it is ... Safe .... can you ever really be safe ?
Antarctica. But if about continents with constant meatbags, none. However, relatively, UK seems to be a little more...quieter, compared to the US.
I just have to say that UK feels safer, America always want an advantage when they compare themselves with other countries which place themselves in a riskspot where they can get the rest of the world against them. They also have all these guns everywhere.
And their economy is at the top of fail aswell.
Second that mate, Loved it here and its safe as hell lol though like stated before if you live over in eastern canada it's smoked to hell. This poll would have been better had you put in more countries, it would still be bias but at least you would cater to more people.
I only picked USA cause i live here :p
If canada was on here.
Canada is the safiest.
but from that.
I would have to say UK.
is safer.
as it is probally got higher securtiey than the USA.
i want to go to Canada but i heard there is a bunch of crazy ass hockey fans
^^]
I've lived in both the US and the UK and I've felt safer in the US in general. Why? Probably the assurance of the police actually being able to protect you unlike in the UK.
I don't care what you say. A person is more willing to listen and respect a police officer with a gun then without.
NoPeace - out
Maybe that's because you have come to expect policemen to be carrying a gun? Personally I'd give more respect to the one without the gun, takes more balls to take on a bad guy with a stick than to pull out a gun and shoot them.
And people saying guns don't kill people, of course they do! An accident with a gun is WAY more likely to kill someone than with a stick or a knife. I don't care what you Americans say, the facts show that people with access to guns are more likely to kill each other than people without. Plus you get the hero types who instead of letting a mugger take there money pulls out a gun, and the mugger kills them instead...
Frankly I think CrashOverdrive has already ended the gun argument, your 3x as more likely to get killed in American and you are in England.
That's not even taking into account hurricanes, floods, snow storms, earthquakes and god knows how many other natural disasters you guys get over there! Worst that happens in England is a tremor that causes a chimney to fall off every few years :p Barely even get snow any more thanks to the Gulf Stream messing up.
But then maybe I live in one of the safest parts of the UK. I would rather not go to London if I could help it, southerners annoy me! :p But that's because of all the rich pricks coming up to go to University at my City and thinking they are better than everyone.
But enough of my rant, Uk is safer than USA. Anyone saying otherwise is kinda disillusioning themselves.
Yeah if you decided to live in the united states, and pick california as your home state, consider the following.
1. Dont wear Red
2. Dont Wear Blue
3. Dont speak with a hispanic accent
4. Dont Live DownTown L.A
5. Dont Drive alone pass midnight in downtown L.A
6. And please above all remember this the most, "There isn't tough guy anymore" only the smartguy.
7. Oh yeah and dont piss off the Pimps either!
TBH its all the same.
Its how you live that makes it dangerous.
And how do you just decide how to live? Most people don't decide to be poor so they have to live in crappy neighbourhoods.
Yea but they can lkook for ojobs etr.
to get out of there place.
The world doesn't work like that, yes 1 person can do that, but they will always be replaced by someone else. Someone has to do the crappy jobs with the crappy pay, and if everyone in the crappy places wanted to get a nice house, then all the sudden their would be a massive need for houses.
Accept the world for what it is, and in the case of the US it means people will live in dangerous neighbourhoods because they can't afford better.
I would say that USA is safer in the fact that if someone does attack it, then they have enouph to fight back.
UK is safer in the fact of terrorist not flying planes into there biggest building, and war.
But I actually have no idea
Ehm... yes the US has enough to attack back, but you have to understand 2 things.
1. No one is stupid enough to attack Europe, it doesn't matter who attacks, they will be defeated in no time, not just by Europe obviously, but also by every major power in this world, including the US, ofcourse if the US attacked then they wouldn't, but there is enough combined power in this world to crush the US, and if anyone would attack Europe, then they would get crushed.
2. Why would anyone attack Europe (or the UK in specific), it's the US who has all the enemies, Europe has the same enemies as everyone else has, extremist who are to weak to take on Europe.
See that's why Europe can't be beaten (well unless you nuke it, can't do much against that - but same goes for the US), Europe tries to better the world, tries to help the world and bring peace to it in ways that won't be (so) offensive to those who we are trying to help, and Europe is important to this world due to it's wealth and all that, no one wants to get rid of Europe, no one wants war with us. The US on the other hand is disliked by many, even hated, that's because the US (or atleast under it's current "leadership") doesn't care what others think, so they do what they think it's right, and right now the US thinks they can accomplish anything aslong as they have power and use it whenever and whereever they want, and that's why it gets attacked.
So trust me, Europe doesn't need all that power, the power it has is more then enough to defend itself against extremists and to help other countries, and if someone would launch a full attack on Europe, then they will be helped by pretty much all the major powers in this world.
USA, just dont go down dark alleys at night time
Yeah you still don't get it do you.
In either case the UK will be safer, it's just that simple. If you don't agree then you should check the crime statistics.
This is not about whether you can live safely in both countries. it's about which is safer and the UK simply is.
No its not, if you go to some silent village in the US its the same as the UK.
Its where you go IN that country that counts not the country itself.
You don't get it now do you...
First of all it's not about a single individual, it's about the overall country.
Second, not everyone can live in some quiet village... or it would no longer be quiet.
And even then, the fact is that the whole US is filled with guns, no matter where you live, people around you will have guns.
Yeah but, nevermind your right I'm talking about something other shit.
Mostly on the news if something involving terrorism it is usually in the uk or usa so I would choose antartica any day of the week, but I do feel that america is more prone to terrorist attacks as it is veiwed as one of the most powerful countries around, the uk is simply 2nd so I vote UK to be safer as you hear about mass murders that are happening in america but then again you might hear these things about UK, but still I vote UK.
