Re: [help] GTX Transparancy
There is another threat about this, xapno posted this:
Use deatharts .gtx converter. Edit the .dds and erase parts where you want transparency, there should be checkerfield there then. Delete all other layers, like the small copies. Save. And then convert back to .gtx
Re: [help] GTX Transparancy
Yes you need dont want to convert the .dds to anything else. Simply open that. I use gimp and a plugin that opens and saves and keeps transparency and adds it here are links.
Gimp - GIMP - Downloads
Plugin for .dds - GIMP DDS plugin
Follow instrutions there to add plugin. Convert .gtx to .dds with deatharts tool etc then open right on gimp.
You can make all models semi transparent like hoaxs server did awile back.

That's done by editing the model's 3D data (ie. with a hex editor, mostly) and requires a update of the CRC -- which all in all is very complex.
Changing textures is alot different, and alot easier.
That said, Paint.NET is ALOT better than TheGimp.
.... and I prefer photoshop :)
Re: [help] GTX Transparancy
Gimp ftw :P all of them basically the same though.

Offtopic:
For editing transparency you don't need CRC update. We used it for *.map files.
Ontopic:
You're using wrong DXT option. I assume you use DXT1, which doesn't support alpha channels (transparency). Use DXT3 or DXT5.
Otherwise for saving in and out from DDS my personal choice is Paint.NET+DDS Plugin.
Re: [help] GTX Transparancy
Are you talking about deathart or me ?? because with transparencys gimp works fine.

Yes, but that also goes for other models :) Then again, it's almost a year ago since I worked with it.
Re: [help] GTX Transparancy
Re: [help] GTX Transparancy
If you convert .dds to bitmap jpeg etc. when you convert back then into .gtx you will notice white where transparency should be.
Re: [help] GTX Transparancy
do it with paint!
paint looks same then adobe photoshop.
its not the paint from windows, google for it its a other version there u can set the Alpha code from 0->255 its realy good.

DO NOT CONVERT BACK TO GTX!!
Seriously, no.. don't do it.
And _NEVER_ use JPEG, use PNG or TGA. And then save in PNG/TGA.
The models can use PNG as well as GTX.
Re: [help] GTX Transparancy
I edit right from .dds and then back to .gtx works fine again.

Re: [help] GTX Transparancy
GTX Viewer has some bugs, I use it only to search for textures.
When you're saving image in *.dds there should be option to change it, you just have to use your eyes.
If you can't find paint.net, why the heck you have internet?
