New section proposal

From what I've experienced in the irc channel, we all love to game against each other, be it rts or some other genre. And while rz was down and everyone was in the irc channel it was a lot easier to organize matches.

But now the forum is up, I give the irc a day before it dies out. Which will lead to no games being organized anymore. Which is a shame really. So I thought, why not have a section that is dedicated to that purpose? It could be a subsection of gaming hotspot, and it won't need a lot of moderation if a good guideline is set on how to post. I think this could really work well if it's done right.

I added a poll, so everyone can express their opinion, do give arguments for your opinions please.

Irc is kinda win tbh, it should stay forever.

I believe I requested this some time ago, but Alfons had some pretty good points against it, However I'm sticking with you, it's a great idea and would make rz x10 fun.

Before the update, Canon was discussing this in Spamzilla and Alfons brought up a good point. I believe we should have a section for it, but Alfons stated that we can easily organise games over MSN or anything similar.

Not everyone has msn or wants to add people he barely knows. I totally agree with you Pie. IRC appears to be dead already, no one is spamming anymore. I had more fun with you guys in the past few days than I ever had.

That's bullshit tbfh. Easily organize games over msn?
1. You have to have people who have the game in your contactlist (Awkward sentence lol)
2. You have to know of those people that they have the game.
3. The people in your contact list have to actually want to play the game.
4. Not everyone has msn. Or is on it all the time.

I've made my point.

PM the guy or MSN. But it wouldn't hurt to try a new section out.

No he's talking about a section for organising matches for any game, tbh tags would be a pain in the ass, but it's worth the effort if it results in a good old session.

So those who wants to play just join irc? That random habbo/ms guys searching for guides are not on irc anymore doesn't mean it's dead :p

I'm not saying that the section is a bad idea, but irc is just much more easier :p

Then what about organizing bigger things, like tournaments or big scale matches? Not everyone who'd want to participate might be online in the channel at the time of the tournament creation.

Added to that the fact that everyone will have forgotten the irc in 2 weeks, I know I will.

now that forums up people will already have forgotten, i mean loads of people want games onn C&C and AOE etc its a good idea

Tbh it's a good idea and the best way would be through it's own section, there are more pros than cons so I don't see why people are against it. It'd bring the community closer for one thing, isn't that a good thing?

Pie, I think it might still be hard to make matches since, well people might skip the section or thread or read it too late.

I like it it also gives people a chance to organise events a few days before

Sub section in gaming zone. And I would like to see a section where we can group people in to games. Just look at how many people downloaded Age of Empires 2 cause we wanted to have some fun.

I am against the idea of adding a new section. Rather than adding a new section a simple thread can solve the problem. Just look at the amount of users that have replied to this thread. To make sure people notice the thread, I'll even sticky it.

Good idea moofin, as I said msn/irc will do, you don't need a new section for it.
A sticky in the gaming section would be perfect.

But it will be confusing as hell with multiple game requests in the same thread, and most wont get any attention.

A thread with multiple games being hosted, lots of people posting in the thread, probably gonna be some discussion about the host's settings, it'll be chaos.

Exactly.

It won't be a chaos if you know how to organize it. Thread title can be used to prevent confusion among users. It'll also help you find all the post related with that game. Not only that but after each gaming sessions, moderators can delete the posts from the previous session.

I still don't see the why we should add a new section. You can simply post in Gaming Hotspot. Once the session is over, I'll simply lock them and move them to the dump.

using this thread for games will be terrible so much confusing.. We need a dedicated section

Well why don't we have a trial of the thread, and see how it goes, if there are a good number of succesful sessions and not many complaints, then thats fine.

I think that the sub-section in the gaming hotspot is a great idea. Well, that is, if you'll organize games where people with crappy PC's can participate too XD

Ye this idea would only be ftw, and if the mods cant handle the extra amount of moderating, get some more, or just dont do it. I say we should try it, if it works then alright, if not then whatever.

I vote for the section.

Count my vote in. It's much easier to organize games in a new section, and why not? There's loads of sections already anyway. The IRC channel is indeed dying, since everyone just lurks on the forums -> No gaming meetings anymore :/.

Thread = Too confusing, too cluttered
New Section = Easier, certain threads for specific games & wouldn't it be alot less moderation then going through all the posts and deleting them constantly?

How about you use the new group features to your advantage. There was already one made about AoE gamers.

List some contact details, maybe make a few groups devoted to a large amount of games, a FPS group?

Compared to irc the idea is a little flawed but it keeps dead sections to a minimum and the best thing about it.
