Would you consider this as being 'fair'?

In my High School, I am a model student. I do 5 Credit level subjects and 2 Intermediate 2 subjects (Credit is the highest possible level for my year, and Intermediate 2 is above my level of ability but I can do it). I work hard in school, do all my homework, I don't give the teachers grief and I don't disturb anyone. Teachers say I'm a credit to them and the school.

Then we have those who fail to do well in school. My High School has a subject known as 'XL' and another subject known as 'SVS' (Social Vocational Skills - have no idea what you do, but you do get an exam in SVS but in XL, you don't). Those who struggle with a subjects, say, French, qualify for XL. The XL group get to go out on trips to XSCAPE - a huge entertainment complex in the nearby town of Renfrew. I am told by my friend who does XL, that in XSCAPE they do a series of activities such as the sky park (a huge climbing frame suspended 100ft above the ground) and many other activities.

I personally don't think it's fair that those who hardly work hard get to go out to fancy expensive places whilst academically successful people like myself, my friend Adam and a few others work hard in class and don't bother anyone, are expected to continue to work hard. The worst part is we are not shown any appreciation for our hard work, we only see some tiny form of it in our reports.

Would you consider this as being 'fair'?

Lol, it's unfair but it's the way ppl work. Although it does seem odd they take them 2 a place where they can have fun. It would make more sense if they took them to a trip to a University Or College for a day. Where they had to do grp tasks? Maybe to teach them something rather than having fun on a climbing frame:P I hate them alredy :D Feel sorry 4 ya lol.

exactly the same happened in my old school,
i just pretty much chilled out, did the work blah blah, same as you, then we had al lthe kids that got sent out every lesson, bunked lessons, back chatted ect, and they would all get to go on trips 2 the cinema, ice skating, bowling ect ect

seriously, its basically rewarding bad behavior!

No, but those in the 'XL' class perhaps find it harder to concentrate in classrooms, and it helps to take them away from the classroom, give them a break, let them catch up with themselves. By the sound of things your class doesn't have any difficulty concentrating and you will probably get the job done all in one go. They are just going at a different pace, at least that's how I see it.

They thought they'd give the kids something good now, since they won't be able to afford it later on in life :D?

because teachers no longer teach

they prepare you for exams which is totally different and much much worse

I guess so, but I've been told by a friend that in XL they do nothing - they sit about and do nothing, just chat. If you were to see the people who do XL, you could easily tell that about 90% of them choose not to try, and the remainder do struggle. My friend struggled with French, so I understand that.

Yeah your friend that told you that clearly chose it because he was lazy, the ones who try to work hard at it, and understand why they are there will know what they do and why it's important.

It isnt really fair, i know. I'm crap at French and i dont want to learn any of it, (You wont like me for this) i go to a thing called "Success Makers" and every period of french i go and play the Playstation 2 or play Pool.

This is what I'm talking about, no offence to you or anything Jamie but you choose not to do French when I'm sure you have the mental capacity to do a good job in the subject, and you are rewarded for choosing to not do well.

Who gives a shit about a climbing frame when in a few years time you'll be in well paid job laughing your ass off at the idea of these disruptive students picking up your recycling every monday? That's your reward - success. And it's better than any climbing frame.

Yeah that's the UK for ya :laugh: But seriously it's been on the news for a good while now about the education standards being lowered all over the U.K, and tbh it's never been that good here, only those that actually have a clue make it.

I know how that feels, you see someone and they're either pregnant, wearing a mcdonalds badge, a tescos shirt, or asking you for money.

For real, the only reason they get special treatment is because the school knows that at this point they're simply incapable of being taught, so they humour them with games and trips while all the good students go undistracted toward university, success, and a good life. Totally worth it.

Tbh my school is failing everyone at the moment, we've been severly hit by recent budget cuts and since we moved to our new school two years ago everything has gone up the crapper.

I'm in that boat too, I will feel sorry for those who didn't even attempt to try and do well if I ever see them. At least people like us who do try will do well in life.

Or so you hope, unfortunately it isn't always the case.

Isnt my fault my teacher doesnt teach my any french, she CANT control a class. I complained and got into trouble from the head...
