I find this story hilarious...They are suing the casino because they didn't do enough to stop the addicted gamblers, who wanted to get them selves barred, from returning.

A $3.5-billion class action lawsuit has been launched on behalf of thousands of addicted gamblers who say they asked to be barred from Ontario's casinos, but were still allowed in.
The suit was filed against the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation on Tuesday in Toronto, claiming that the corporation did not do enough for those who signed up for "self-exclusion," a program that allows people to have themselves banned from casinos so that they can curb their ruinous gambling habits.
Those who sign up for the program are photographed and registered, and their information is stored in binders at every provincial casino. If they are caught trying to enter a casino, they can be arrested for trespassing.
But gamblers who spoke with CBC News on condition of anonymity said the program doesn't work. One woman said she registered for the program, but her gambling addiction led her back to a casino soon after.
"I walked through, no one looked at me," she said. "I kept gambling for the next couple of years."
Lawyers say the OLG should be using high-tech systems to catch self-banned gamblers. In the Netherlands, gamblers present photo identification at casinos, and their identification is checked against a computer database, lawyers say.
Lawyer Jerome Morse said the suit is designed to help addicted gamblers who have lost large sums of money, and their families. But he also hopes the suit will bring about changes at casinos across the continent.
"[We hope it sets] a precedent that not only benefits all members, but that will benefit anyone who is subject to the dangers of gaming in North America," he said.
Ontario has settled nine individual lawsuits pertaining to self-exclusion, but has never been hit with a large class-action suit.
The OLG has argued in the past that it is ultimately up to the gamblers themselves to stay away from casinos, although the corporation has expressed interest in obtaining facial recognition technology to improve its screening process.

Serious?
There's two casinos that I know of in Glasgow, there's one at Springfield Quay and another one opposite Springfield Quay on the north side of the Clyde.
It's pretty poor this, what's the point in signing up for self-banning when you don't get stopped from gambling away your life savings?

Re: [News]Addict Gamblers sue Casino
Well the woman who said she went back to the casino should get arrested for trespassing instead of sueing the casino

She was meant to be arrested, but of course this system failed to stop her so she was free to spend her money

Re: [News]Addict Gamblers sue Casino
This sounds like a joke but In Argentina bingo's and casinos had ATMs inside and people complained and they are now removed. Imagine being able to take all your pay check inside the place where you are going to loose it :P. Gambling addiction is a sickness and when you push that sickness to gain money or don't offer enough support you are going against the law.

Thread cleaned, stay ontopic guys :)
Yeh its happened a few times and if i remember correctly, the Casinos won every time.
Also casinos will usually (well they do here) serve your free alcohol while you are gambling at their machines. So you get drunk while playing your money away, which means you dont know when to stop and end up playing till its all gone. Scam tactics tbfh.

yea i know.. and on a second note, if they can show the maturity to sign up to this program, i think they stop being greedy lil cunts and not go.
-
Re: [News]Addict Gamblers sue Casino
It could turn into a pretty easy scam. Sign up for the program, notice that you aren't getting caught, get your friends to sign up for it...or people you know...keep going over and over and don't get caught, and then sue them for their program not working.

Re: [News]Addict Gamblers sue Casino
This happened in Australia aswell I think it was about 2 or 3 years ago, a man asked to be banned from the casino or blacklisted or whatever they call it and they said yes, but he ended going back and losing I think it was $200,000AUD and then sued the casino.
About the article chances are they'll end up coming back and gamble the $3.5 billion away

Re: [News]Addict Gamblers sue Casino
Here in NL (as said in the article) you indeed need to show your ID, and if you are either under 18, or banned, they will kick you out.
In NL they also follow people around that are spending too much themselves, and they are being enrolled in a gambling-additiction course etc. This is all aftercare.
The big difference (I think) is that the dutch casino's are being operated by the dutch government, and not a private individual.

Does the money go to like roads, hospitals etc or does it just goes in the hands of the government to pay for like campaign management or something like that.

Campaign management is something each party has to do for itself - it's supported by the government for a certain amount (I believe total government support is about 50.000 euro / year for registred parties of sufficient size) but that's barely enough to pay for the most basic needs of a political party.
As for where the specific money goes to: to my knowledge it all amasses in one big budget so it's impossible to tell where it goes to. Some of it undoubtedly to hospitals and roadworks, some perhaps to buying the police more speeding camera's :icon6:

Holy shit... just went gambling this Thursday. Lost over $50 bucks. But one of us one the $1000 jackpot. And we had this rule where we'd split anything we win for over $1000... So it was all good at the end. Lots of boozage, except for the friend of mine who was driving lol.

Re: [News]Addict Gamblers sue Casino
Funny lawsuits, the real idiots here aren't the people sueing the casino. They're just trying to make a quick $$$. The idiots are the courts who like insane said actualy accept the cases in the first place. But you can;t blame the addicts for trying anyway :)
