What Can I do with these Specs?
I was just wondering what would the community do with these specs?
As I am idea-dead of them
Specs:
850w PSU
Intel Core 2 Quad Q9300
6gb Ram (4gb of which are SLI ready) (don't ask)
80gb
on a 64bit system WinXP x64
[Edit]
nvidia 8500 gt gfx card
I haven't done much with this new system o' mines.
so I'm asking what would "you" do?
ANY Idea no matter how lame or smart it is. (because they equal an evolution of ideas to come)
Re: What Can I do with these Specs?
Basically anything lol
As far as I know L2 is one of the most demanding servers for hosting and you would be fine running one with a fairly high population, maybe close to 700 or so.
What kind of line is it on?
If I had the system around, and it was on a fairly decent line (higher bandwidth bracket) and I didn't owe a monthly payment on it, I would start up a community and try my hand at starting a lucrative business/whatever.
If I paid monthly payments on it then I would already have an idea of what I was doing with it before I started paying lol
Re: What Can I do with these Specs?
I haven't been touching networks lately, just cafe'ing
Re: What Can I do with these Specs?
Wot video card u using. And you ant got much hdd space.
Re: What Can I do with these Specs?
Ah sorry nVidia 8500 GT Card, sli ready, probably gonna upgrade the cards soon
Re: What Can I do with these Specs?
hmm not a gaming machine then.
Re: What Can I do with these Specs?
Just because it's a 8500GT doesn't mean it's not a gaming machine, it just means it isnt a high end one.
Ontopic-
Do you mean what you could do to push it to its limits?
Re: What Can I do with these Specs?
Well, i just need ideas of what i could possibly do with it. Every single possibility
It would be nice to knows it's limits
Re: What Can I do with these Specs?
Well you could play DX 9 games aright.
Do basic stuff eg internet dvd making ect.
Better if you had a bigger HDD for storing DVDs.
Run it as a server, nice RAM for a server and a good processor too.
Re: What Can I do with these Specs?
I've heard of Virtual PC 2007 or VPS, would that be of any worth of an idea?
Re: What Can I do with these Specs?
If you want a game server then you need to fix your ram. There is no such thing as SLI'd RAM as far as i know you are refering to dual channelling and all servers require it. However the fact that some of your RAM is NOT dual channeled, it is SLOWING down the rest of your RAM (your computer only runs as fast as its SLOWEST part). Remove the 2gb which are not dual channeled and you will actually see a performance increase.
Once you've done that, invest about $200 for an 8800GT and it will be great for mid-high end gaming.

With Nforce 4/6/7 mobos, there's an option in the bios that allows you to disable/enable SLI Ready ram. It'll probably give a small performance boost, not quite sure.
Re: What Can I do with these Specs?
I can see alot of thought processes going into gaming.
One Question,
What is the value of using this pc, with applying Virtual PC into and say imitating a VPS?
How would I go about doing that?
Just a small experiment
Re: What Can I do with these Specs?
It's quite good, I suggest more HDD space though.

He just means the ram is "SLI Ready" which is some sales trick from memory makers.
His memory is totally fine, no need to buy new memory.. I just advice you to buy some new hdd's cause 80gb is shit. If you want to play later games buy a new videocard.
