Hey there.
I just bought my 360 (Manufacture Date: April '08) I heard about the extensive heat problems the 360 had.. but mostly of them were of '06 or so models, so is the problem somewhat fixed? or at least reduced?
And by the way, whats the better position of the 360? Horizontal or vertical?
It's fixed. And i don't think it matters much.
As Gohan said it probably doesn't matter now, but if you want to be on the safe side, stand it up. That should give the console just a little bit extra ventilation.
I'm pretty sure it was fixed.
But not certain. I bought mine early and i haven't had to repair it.
I've even played it for 13 Hours straight it didn't over heat.
Also, a tip is to use it as a tower and not a desktop it vents better.

I've had the 360 since it's initial release and have never had any problems with it thus far.

How'd you stand the old Xbox vertically? Last I checked it was always a horizontally standing console o.o

Actually I've had it for over a year and always had it standing up, it works just fine like that. But if your worried about tipping it over, or accidentally pulling the charge cord too hard and it falling over.. Just put it horizontally. Also when you have it at a friends house, put it horizontally, so they can't knock it over.

Use your machine horizontally, if it's vertical you'll have more chance of knocking it resulting in a destroyed disc lol. Get so many people returning disc at work saying it's scratched, when they're the one who did it! Also the red ring of death now has a three year warranty on it, which is awesome imo :P so shove that in your crack pipe and smoke it!

I bought my X-Box 360 Elite in September and ive had it on my stand in horizontal position and it has given me problems about a week ago (Overheating and giving 2 red lights) so i sent it into microsoft to fix.
I'd Stand it up,
Theory, Both Sides get air... and if you ask me the bottom gets hotter than the top...
What i did was make a stand with vents on the bottom so that it is elevated... so ... its stands vertical and basically hovers in mid air ^^
I've just recently got a new TV cabinet, and boy does it get hot with the 360 in there. I'll prob have to replace it even more often now lol
