[Poll] Legalizing Prostitution
I think prostitution should be legalized in USA, Canada. I would like to see the industry taxed and the workers mandated to get health clearances.

Workers' Union Puts Prostitution On SF Ballot
SAN FRANCISCO (AP) ― A measure that aims to keep prostitutes from facing criminal charges has qualified for the November ballot in San Francisco.
The measure, which qualified Friday, would bar authorities from spending money to investigate or prosecute prostitutes for engaging in prostitution.

Re: [Poll] Legalizing Prostitution
I think this should be in debate.
My o: it's been around for centuries, it's not going to die out anytime soon. May aswell save the government money by legalizing it.
-
Re: [Poll] Legalizing Prostitution
Tax it and make it clean (ie both people need to be checked regularly), then sure.
-
Re: [Poll] Legalizing Prostitution
In today's world being clean and disease free should be a standard.
If there was a faster, more accurate way of testing for all STD's (including HIV) then everyone should get checked every 6 months. It should be government regulated but private businesses should be carrying out the testing(because the government does absolutely nothing quickly).
As long as everyone is clean then so be it. The only reason it is morally wrong to people is because it is against the law. Like smoking marijuana. It ONLY hurts the people(even if it doesn't) that smoke it and not those that do not.
Having sex with some woman that I call 'Candy' and pulled off of the streets and paying her for her services hurts no one but us.
Something like this will probably never happen in the US as long as enough people in Congress can be swayed by their religious influence. Legalizing prostitution would rightly bring down the wrath of God...or so people would have you believe.

Re: [Poll] Legalizing Prostitution
for what i know certain states in the USA its actually allowed as long as its done in a brothel or ehe ranch :P
-
Re: [Poll] Legalizing Prostitution
Same with Australia, street prostitution is illegal but in brothels it's legal but problem is with the men/women who bring people from overseas promising a better life and they come here and end up being sex slaves and having to work off the payments for transport, food, drink, clothing, place to stay, but the people who bring them out confiscate there passport and threaten to turn them in to the authorities for being an illegal worker.
I agree with Robert but I still think that some women do it to for financial reasons and to support other addictions I think that if you tax it, the money should go to drug rehabilitation centres where women or who have faced addictions and turned to prostitution can go and receive help.

Re: [Poll] Legalizing Prostitution
No. Those who sell themselves are degrading to the themselves and others who are connected to them.
They should be locked up for 3-6months to teach them a lesson that helping spread diseases is a crime.

Re: [Poll] Legalizing Prostitution
And what would happen if it was a single parent family and the Dad wasn't involved in the families life and a mother of three kids was having financial problems and she's discriminated against because she is a single mother and can't find part-time work, she turns to prostitution to feed her family and keep them happy/good health etc Should the mother face jail time? no I don't believe so in my opinion, I think less should be done about the punishment of the crime and more rehabilitation at the start instead of later, for example if the government helped out families living in debt or something then people wouldn't have to turn to crime/prostitution for a financial gain, it might make the rate of STD's/STI's decline.

Re: [Poll] Legalizing Prostitution
What bothers me is that prostitution is not legal - but porn is?
How is it that when a woman is paid for sex, its illegal and they both can go to jail - yet when a woman is paid for sex and they video tape it, its legal and they can go on to make money?
Prostitution is illegal for multiple reasons, mostly because it spreads the risk of STDs and it encourages adultery... Yet porn stars spread the risk of STDs to every person they sleep with, and the movies encourage adultery!
Prostitutes are manipulated by pimps into sharing the profits, and told who to sleep with. But then, porn stars are manipulated by producers into sharing the profits, and told who to sleep with.
At the end of the day it boils down to more or less the same thing.
Producer = Pimp.
Porn Star = Whore.
So if one is legal, they should both be legal - or they should both be illegal. Governments need to stop half-enforcing their laws.

Re: [Poll] Legalizing Prostitution
RobC1907, I totally agree with you there.
Anyway, Prostitution and porn are for people who can't get laid.
-
Re: [Poll] Legalizing Prostitution
Well... yeah, like Kyle said, this "profession" has been around for THOUSANDS of years by now, and it's really not gonna disappear any time soon, so really - why not make it legal and make "business owners" pay taxes and shit and make sure that the "workers" are "clean" and healthy :P

Re: [Poll] Legalizing Prostitution
What happens between two consenting adults, in private, is no business of the state. Whether or not money is exchanged shouldn't change anything. Then there's the fact that making it illegal has probably made the problem countless times worse, much like with drugs.
It's legal in the UK, by the way.

Aye, not in Scotland. We just outlawed it a few months ago.
Yeah what goes on behind closed doors should stay behind those doors, but letting vunerable women be exposed to dangers and other stuff isn't exactly fair.

Sorry but STD's werent even known and there were countries that already had it illegal ( SO thats a bullshit excuse )
Not ALL Prostitutes have pimps ( So again its a bullshit excuse )
Some are Forced while the "majority" isnt ( depends from country to country )
So let me guess you put an Escort at the same level as a Street Prostitute ?
Porn Stars ( depending of her status ) earn more on a movie than you would do in a year ,
A prostitute sleeps with more mens than a Porn Star , beside you only get to be a porn star if you REALLY Want ( you not forced - 197x is long gone and no Linda Lovelace and deepthroat scandals )
Street Whores are crack whores , 90% are on drugs and yes do have SDTs
Escorts , PornStars actually do tests every month ( Pornstars before shooting a movie need to be clean ) so again dont put them on the same pedestal

My post wasn't aimed at the people taking part in the porn/prostitution, I was just pointing out that they are essentially the same thing.
Porn - making videos of people having sex and selling them.
Prostitution - being paid to have sex with someone.
In both cases, sex = money. It isn't the prostitutes, pimps or porn stars that bother me, I was using them as examples.

Re: [Poll] Legalizing Prostitution
I would vote no. I cant really put any reasoning behind it except the fact that I was raised with the belief that those kinds of things are wrong. So im gonna have to stick with that.

Pretty much sums up what I wanted to say. But I still feel that the society will have a real hard time accepting sex workers.

Even in real life ( if you dont count with the above ) sex = money , some girls or boys will marry , get together for money ( not getting paid for doing it , but getting benefits that comes from money ( even if its a divorce ;) ) they did sex , they get money later
but again i only say do not mix sex movies ( Porn stars ) with prostitution , they are 2 completly separate things

What's more degrading? paying a women to sleep with you and have no negative repercussions or sleep with a woman that later wants to marry and have a family but realises half way through you won't change into what she really wanted so she starts seeing someone else and you get divorced and pay child support and live in a tiny little house, while your ex is driving your car and having other male friends at your house.
At least with prostitutes there honest about taking your money, they wont take your house, car, kids etc. They just leave when your done.

Yeah, I agree with you on this. But still, this stuff has been around for thousands of years by now, and it's really not gonna go anywhere soon, so why not try to make it a little "cleaner" and more legitimate? I'm sure that people will eventually understand. Besides, like some guy here said, people accept pornography, so why not accept this too eventually? It's a girl getting paid for humped in the ass, in both jobs.

Re: [Poll] Legalizing Prostitution
I guess so, If the hooker is damn well tested thoroughly.... I don't want it to burn when I piss. Shouldn't this be in the debate section?

Thats the funniest thing I've ever heard, just because these things have happened in your life doesn't mean they happen in everyones.
Loser.
