i know launcher use cabalmain.exe and it call internal.txt for ip and port, i use ollydbg and search for name string and found internal.txt, breakly, husky..... but don't what to do with that....

@0d3m0ns0 - I have not actually noted which fixes (removing the need for gameserver, creating presence tables, the "already logged on" trigger) i have applied and i know these copies don't have everything i have applied to my main database. I plan on a little more testing on my own databases and then i will be updating them listing exactly what has been applied. It will either be later today or tomorrow i would think.

@myliquid - I have not bothered taking my hexing tools to any of the exes in any serious way yet. I have been looking for un-modded copies of the exes so i can compare and see what has been changed so i can figure out how to hex other ones, but i got sick of downloading random clients trying to find the versions i needed and my posts here for copies went unanswered.

I see little point in learning how to do minor edits like that yet as we don't actually know how to hex new copies which is far more important. To be honest i don't see any benefit of removing the need for internal.txt anyway as it is a convenience for me.

What we really need is a tool that gives you a list of fixes that you can choose from and then apply the patch. Ragnarok servers use this method for their sakexes (i used to be one of the people that made them) and it would be perfect for us too, however to make the diff file it all works from i need the unedited exes from a .22 client.

The databases are proper backups that need restoring and not attaching. The guide covers how to do this on SQL 2005 and it is pretty much the same for 2000.

To be honest i would not use the databases yet as i have stripped a lot of data out and applied some fixes, but i don't consider them well tested yet. If you are interested in testing them then that's fine but if you are setting up a new server i would use the copies that came with the sever files for now and use my ones only if you run into problems with missing tables or stored procedures.

I have taken the database link off for now. If anyone has then do not use the account db as i have found 3 tables i cleared that should no be cleared and you won;t be able to create new chars. If you have installed the account database then either overwrite it witht he one that comes with the server files or post here and i will give you some sql queries to fix it.

I have tested the rest of them and they look ok. I am putting more fixes in now so i can put the links back up and then finish the server install guide and my server repack.

The reason i didn't put the databases in one file or include them in the server repack is because i'm guessing i will be updating certain databases quite a lot and listing them seperately allows me to put a date on each of them so you can tell when i update one. It saves having to download the whole lot again whenever i make a minor change ;)

@SamkuS - You do know that everyone has the login bug don't you? These are clean copies of the databases i use myself so they should work fine. Keep trying as it can take me a few tries to get in and keep an eye on your logfiles in cause there are any errors in there.

Also remember that you need to set permissions on your databases to let whatever userid your server uses access them. I can't do that bit for you sadly.

The main post explains it. I have made several changes to the databases (other than emptying the old player data) and each change is listed under the database download link.

For the server repack i have changed the default config file from .ini to .cfg so they are always safe. The modified gen_config2.sh i included will put the configs in place and put the IP addresses and db user/pass in the right spots for you and will also do your odbc.ini. The reason for these changes is because the old gen_config wans't very good and running it a second time didn't work, now it does ;)

Ah, that is a missing "gameserver" link setting or possibly the newchar data. I have not removed the references to the linked server yet as there are an awful lot of them and it will need a lot of testing different things to test all of the stored procedures that use them and be sure they still work. I suspect linked server though.

Which version of MSSQL do you use and do you have a linked server setting?

Check your account db for the cabal_new*_Data tables, do they have values in them?

Open the "guild" table in the game db and find the GuildNo in the table.

Now run the query:

exec guild_del '<GuildNo>','<blah>'

The <blah> isn't actually used in the queries so use any number and guild_destroy seems to do the same.

Edit: ok i fix already my own problem by exploring the OS(operating system)... and the answer is not included in the guide...

for other reader: if u got this error... then answer is here....

1.)log in centos with the username root and password
2.)open computer icon in the centos desktop
3.)click filesystem
4.)find the root folder *(if u login as root then u can find the root folder with a home icon beside)
*if an error occured saying Permission denied... then the problem is u are not login as root account...
5.)then open the root folder and find the cabal_install.sh
note* (if cabal_install.sh is not there... it means u did not copy the contents of stage 1 to the root folder or u copy the contents of stage1 in a wrong directory...)
6.)if u already found the cabal_install.sh then right click it and click properties
7.)a new window will pop up contaning the properties of cabal_install.sh
8.)go to permission tab and check the Execute in owner permission
9.)click ok then double click the cabal_isntall.sh and run as terminal... *(run as terminal is just same as the guide /root/cabal_install.sh)

why in ur stage2 folder the ODBC.ini file is empty?? no text inside

and why in ur etc/cabal folder the contents are different from the post of darkxl and the contents of each ini files??

@kevinmejica123 - Thanks for that fix. If you copy the files as root they should be owned by root and not give permissions problems but your fix will solve that. doing a chmod from a terminal/PuTTY to set the permissions to 0777 will also work. I will update the miniguide to include this.

The reason the /etc/cabal folder layout is different is because of limitations in the original gen_config.sh. If your original gen_config.sh even worked properly (which it doesn't given most of the ep2 .ini files i have seen) it would only work once as the values it was looking to replace were changed by running it the first time. With the layout like this the original files are always left untouched and you can run gen_config2.sh as many times as you like and it will always work. It is more to help noobies out and make reconfiguring a lot easier for everynody else.

There is only one odbc.ini in the repack (Stage2\usr\local\etc) as i forgot to remove that one (it doesn't get used). The one in \etc\ is a .cfg file and not a .ini so the one you have there isn't mine. Gen_config2.sh copies this to odbc.ini an then replaces the IP with the one you specify in gen_config2.sh.

@[hidden] - The trigger should only activate and force the account offline when you are getting paste the user/pass screen, once you are in it should update the auth table again so the online counts should be ok. The trigger is really just a workaround to make logging in easier until we solve the login bug and it will probably be bette to remove it once we do.

You didn't add the xp_md5.dll support to the sql server. See my sql guide in the first post for instructions and a copy of the dll.

nice work! does this includes the server-client sync fix regarding crafting or item shops such as hp and mana potions that dc the client when buying?

It doesn't have that fix yet for one simple reason, which client do i fix it for? I use the GP client and if i fix it for that it will break other clients. I need to pick one client to support for it as it can't be compatible with all clients and GP seems to be the most stable and popular. Once i figure out exactly how the GP client is built i will be in a better position to decide which client.

ah soz.. finally im back on server making.. Sql developed a weirdass WMI error which i took 2 days to fix... all the patches on google didnt work + tried at least 10 regedits and .bat fixes. Fixed now >.< and as a sidenote found out theres new sql express 2008! cool ;p K trying with sql2005 since it seems more userfriendly :P Nice guide btw.. love it.. one bit tho..last picture on ur 1st guide (sql guide)

It was actually me being too lazy to fix it. I use 2000 myself and only did the 2005 guide to help others out. I installed the dll from the folder with my cabal stuff in it for the screenshot and didn't realise until i have uninstalled 2005 and put 2000 back on my machine. I didn't want to reinstall 2005 again just for that one shot as people were just going to copy/paste the text anyway.

The centos guide literally just covers the install of centos and not the server dependencies as i have built that part of it into my server repack instead.

Check your log file in /var/log/cabal and see if you can see any errors in there. I find it is best to stop the services first, delete all the logs and then start the service again so i can just see the latest errors.

You will probably find there is a database connection problem as that is what it sounds like. The places to check for that are the /etc/cabal/ ini files to make sure the username/pass is correct and /etc/odbc.ini to make sure you have a valid DSN section. Normally your server number would be 24, your DSN= entries would be CabalGame24 and odbc.ini would have a [CabalGame24] section but as your server number is 01 you might need to change those values to CabalGame01.

If that doesn't fix it post any logfile errors you get and i will take a look.

Some form of linux is needed but it doesn't necessarily have to be centos. I know Ubuntu works and you will probably find other debian based versions will work, same with fedora and other red hat versions too. Sadly d@mn small linux, which would have been absolutely perfect for us, doesn't work well at all :(

I do know that wth centos 4.6 if you do a custom install and untick every single tickbox on the "what apps to install" page it only needs CD 1 and CD 2 which halves the download size needed. That is my preferred version because of size at the moment but i am still looking for other alternatives.

You don't configure gen_config2.sh at all, don't edit a single thing. Just run it and answer the questions it asks. It will try and find your ip for the bind ip bit and will then configure all of the files for you.

All you do is run /home/cabal/gen_config2.sh from a centos terminal/putty and just answer the questions it asks. It will guess the bind IP for you so just hit enter there and then give it the windows ip and the database user/pass.

Once done type "service cabal start" from the terminal (as root) and it will start the cabal service.

It depends entirely on your config, specifically whether you have a router or not. The "bind ip" gen_config2.sh asks for is the network the server will listen on (lan or wan) and whichever network you pick the others won't be able to get in because the server can only listen on one network and always hands back the wrong worldserver/chat node IP to one or the other. The DNS redirect tricks that you can use on some private server setups do not work on cabal. Add vmware bridging/nat behind the router and you have a bit of a networking nightmare.

If you have a modem and not a router then use your wan ip (www.whatismyip.com) as the bind ip and that should work.

If you have a router then you will need to experiment as different routers have different features and i know that some simply won't work no matter what you do. I have heard that a dual network card setup on the server is one way to work behind routers but to be honest i really don't know as my server is lan only and i use a dedicated machine and not VMWare.

That being said i am experimenting with it at the moment as there are a lot of people with routers who have no idea which IP addresses are which let alone any idea how to set it up. I think we need a guide of some sort.

It looks like you are missing an awful lot of libs there, some fairly basic ones too, and the install completely failed. What sort of install did you do for centos, was it a default install or something like a minimal? How many CDs did it ask for during the install?

I use centos 4.6 myself but there shouldn't be any problems with 5. You could try fixing it the hard way using yum search from that console or googling the filenames it is looking for to find the packages to yum but it would probably be quicker to reinstall centos. If the installer is similar to the 4.6 one in my guide then go for a workstation type install or tick a few of the development options on the package list.

It does seem like a very minimal install though.

if i restore these databases with mine already populated will it replace all inside,like lose accounts,triggers or permisions?

i knew it, something wrong with my CentOS installer. actually it's my second time to reinstall CentOS coz i already have that problem with my first setup. The CentOS 5.2 is 4GB DVD ISO I've downloaded it for 2 1/2 days. OMG looks like i have to download a new one. Just like what you've said I have tried doing it the Hard Way while waiting for your reply with my post. But every time I yum each one of those file a new one came up. My 2 1/2 days were screwed up by that 4GB file. hayzzz.. well atleast I learn.

Try this.. go to terminal of your Centos and type " yum update " the package is about 80 to 85mb. If you cant update just use the proxy server and put a working proxy.

@mirceagab - Sadly yes you will lose your existing data if you restore over your existing databases.

@Kenshinx - If you used the DVD and did a standard install it should be fine?? I'm going to download the v5 DVD now and give it a test so i at least have an idea what the installer loks like. I should be able to post something for you this evening if kilawin's suggestion doesn't help.

@KenshinX same thing happened to me when i ran centos 5.2 from thoughtpolice. i redownloaded centos 4.6 at http://downloads.mentat.hu/pub/cento...386-binDVD.iso and turned out fine

Yes the default install from the DVD isn't capable of installing the server. I have only had a quick play with installing extras to get it to work and i don't think using centos 5 is going to be simple at all as it has a lot of needed stuff missing. Weird.

If you follow my centos guide you only need centos 4.6 CD1 and CD 2 which is a much smaller download than 5 anyway.

what username is that?

It wants the username the server needs to access the game databases. You can use your sa username and password there if you want.

because the Server is whrite up in shell code (linux code) u need Linux as Gamehost, CentOS is a Linux Distrub u can use any other Linux Distrub (i use Debian, others RedHat and and and...).

Cabal databases (beta)
This is a complete set of working databases in MSSQL 2000 format (which means they will load in 2000 or later). They are the original databases with the player data stripped and a _few_ fixes applied (see below).

The idea here is to have a set of known working databases with all fixes and missing bits included. If i missed any bits or you know something that needs adding i don't mind if you flame me as long as you actually share the fix/addition so i can update the databases rather than just throwing insults and taunts around.

looks like im in need of some help again D:

i cant seem to connect to my server .
im using NAT and i've tried my wan,lan, and also hamachi ip's in internal.txt & genconfig2. i portforwarded the 3 ports but my wan doesnt work. i've gotten to the server list before when using lan ip but thats just cause its my own comp and since i want my friends to play thats not an option. i am on a wireless network with an at&t cheapy router. any ideas? :(

I have never used Hamachi so to be honest i don't know what addresses it uses. The way i understand it Hamachi makes a bit lan between you and anyone else on your Hamachi network so using the lan should be ok (i think).

I am probably going to have to install Hamachi to test this as it does seem to be the simplest way to get the server working behind a router :(

i just realized why hamachi didnt work for me. hamachi on linux cant connect to other users on hamachi. i tried pinging it on my windows and it didnt work.got any idea or know how to unblock it? i must've misfollowed a step or something :[

Ok wierd stuff I got.. Anyone knows how to change the path do xp_md5.dll, coz it automaticly sets to D:\cabal\xp_md5.dll oO and not the system32 folder.., might have been the mssql2k I had earlier dunno :/

@sevenmore if you enter your sql got to were the xp_md5.dll instruction is stored in your master , you can change the path for it in its details.
