Re: First Year University?
Try not to die of alcohol poisoning.
Try not to go to uni hungover/high.
Don't fall asleep in lectures, it pisses off the lecturer greatly!
If the lecturer gives out notes, try to add to them as much as possible, it will help you remember stuff. If the notes are really good don't bother buying books, if you really need some use the library! Spend the money on more important things, like booze.
Remember you're there to have fun and get to socialise as much as you are to learn. It's very possible to pass exams purely by spending 2weeks revising, so really you don't need to be studying every night.
It's not what you know, it's who you know. Try to make as many friends as possible, you never know when one of them could tip you off to a really good job :)
Re: First Year University?
couldnt have put it better rob
i've many friends who've finished their degrees over the past few years and the ones who have come out with the better jobs, or even jobs at all are the ones who spent time networking aswell as studying.
Unfortunately I also know many graduates who cannot even get a job now they have finished at uni contrasting with people like myself who haven't even got A levels and have a succesful career.
sure your degree can be important, even if its a mickey mouse course like media etc but use this time to get laid, get high and party like there's no tomorrow
Re: First Year University?
taking a year off, I've been in school for 13 years. it might sound foolish but I need a break.
Re: First Year University?
I'll be attending Baylor University in Waco, so I figure I did okay for high school since their Grad College is in the top 10 (number 10) for medical schools.

I had no other plans. I already have some plans for converting my roomm8 to the darkside if I need. FYI I'm going to a christian college but of course you know these are the kids most likely to go all out.

Haven't we all lol? Kindergarden - High School non-stop; I thought about taking a year off but my parents said they wouldn't support me if I did.

I am so excited to get out and start fresh. I wasted so much time as a recluse.
It sucks when you spent the first 18 years of your life inside lol. I remember thinking that I would never regret not getting outside and doing stuff, but hay in the past month I've done more than in all those 18 years including getting arrested =D -- Maybe I was better off just staying inside on the computer lulz
I'll be going off next year. Where are you going? Just don't get arrested for stealing... I mean borrowing beer and you'll be great! Also what Bob said, especially about the lecturer and the hangover lul.

Yah we have 5 days before classes start so I hope that there's some parties. I hate that I party different from everyone else lol it seems most people want to play beer pong and stuff like that at parties. I'm just there to get fucked up and meet other people who are too. Why play a game to get you there, when you can just take something and wait 30min?
Re: First Year University?
My parents aren't supporting me, I'm paying my classes with my own pocket, all I'm doing is living at their house. Their only rule was to start going to school at least in two years, if not, get my ass out of their house.

Ah yah well I'm going to a private university so I would owe 150k USD+ after I graduate. My parents are the kind that grew up from nothing and don't want me to have to struggle like they did, etc.
Re: First Year University?

Look at high school as preparation for university. Just make decent grades a learn as much as you can about life before you go to university or you end up like Wh005h here having a crash course during the summer before lol. After high school I realized how pointless it was... My college came looking for me and they requested my transcript. I took all IB classes (basically AP) and got no credit from them except for 1... High school was a waste of time, don't worry too much about it
Re: First Year University?
I'm 18...Graduated class of 08, maybe like you? Well I ain't going to Private University, I'm going to UVU (Utah Valley University) and it cost 1500$ per semester. I'm saving enough money to go for one Year, so I don't have work and go to school at the same time.

I really wish I did live in the right country /sigh. I'll be studying Biology. I was going to do Biochem but I suck too much at Chemistry and I didn't take a Chem class this first semester so I'll have to double up on Chem classes later on if I want to change to it.
I wish I could take physics but I suck way too much at math and don't feel like working that hard...
Re: First Year University?
I'm taking European Studies. It's a bit of a weird course, because:
a) Dutch university
b) Entire course is in the English language
c) About 60% of the students in this particular course is German
The large ammount of German students is because the university I'm going to is in Maastricht, which is near the German border (near the Belgium border aswell I might add).
Imo you can hardly call Maastricht a dutch city with all the people from different nationalities that live/work here. Other than the dutch I've seen quite a lot of people from the USA, Germany, France, Italy and Belgium. On some days the Belgian practically take over the city O_o
