A not-so-budget build (Intel & ATi)
Alright, here's my build. Anything to improve? (Like, get this for better price, etc.)
ASUS Rampage Formula X48 w/ Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600
Western Digital 400GB 7,200RPM 16MB
Kingston PC2 8500 HyperX 2GB X2 (4GB)
PowerColour 4870X2 2GB
CMaster RealPower Pro 1250W + 12CM Fan
Asus Silent Square EVO (I'm not very sure which cooler should I go with, so I chose a random one which was at average pricing.)
Antec 900 Case
Yeah.
So guys, here's what are my questions.
Is the 1250w able to power 2 4870X2's? I'll be upgrading in the future, I do not want to upgrade the PSU again. Is there a 8-pin connector too?
Is the cooler good? I want to be able to overclock my Q6600 to 3GHz, and don't tell me to buy E8400/E8500, I need 4 cores.
Should I get Seagate's 500GB 7,200RPM 32MB or Western Digital's 400GB 7,200RPM 16MB?
Yeah, so please, comment guys (:
Re: A not-so-budget build (Intel & ATi)
Get 500GB seagate. The PSU is good and the cpu will be cool enough. If you want go for Q6700.
Re: A not-so-budget build (Intel & ATi)
Q6700? I wouldn't go for that, lol. Don't have the money. I'd go for Q9550 if I could.
Re: A not-so-budget build (Intel & ATi)
1. Yes it will be more than enough for 2 4870X2's. No idea about the PCI-e connector but it should have 2.
2. i recommend a Zalman CPU cooler
3. 500GB Seagate.
Re: A not-so-budget build (Intel & ATi)
Okay guys, thanks alot. I'd get a Zalman CPU Cooler.

:O sutsurikeru can you take a picture and let me see it?
Re: A not-so-budget build (Intel & ATi)
I no this is slightly off topic but when is Core 3 coming out?? If you dont no never mind. Just saving putting a while new thread up.

sutsurikeru you have the new Antec TWELVE hundred, not the NINE hundred.

I have a similar setup except I have E8400. Any ideas how much minimum power do I need for that?

You say similar, but what is ur video card?? If that then i think 1000watts. No less.
Personally i don't like Antec cases, they just don't look right for me. Don't ask why. I like ThermalTake. Also i don't like lots of drive bays going all the way down the case, just my style of computers. But there are good cases (Antec) There have very good case cooling.

Re: A not-so-budget build (Intel & ATi)
SSD > raptors :P
Anyway I wouldn't buy a Q6600, I would go for a Q9xxx since the Q6600 are way to hot. May I ask why you need 4 cores? :P Just curious!
Also I'd buy a 320gb or 640gb drive as there are only 2 "discs" in the drive (lower dB).
Last note: I'd step down a bit on the PSU. Like 600-700watts from a good brand would be enough and I'm guessing you 1250w costs alot?
Re: A not-so-budget build (Intel & ATi)
little bit of caution here, your psu will need too have 4 6 pin connectors if you want to be crossfiring 4870x2, and it would be preferable to have 2x8pin & 2x6pin since your 4870 might not come with the 6>8pin converter lead (plus you'll want to keep cable management incheck as this system will likely be very hot)
Re: A not-so-budget build (Intel & ATi)
Stick with DDR2 PC6400/800Mhz RAM, anything higher doesn't really give much performance compared to the HUGE price increase
Re: A not-so-budget build (Intel & ATi)
@ linklink88: I might run a web-server, etc.
@ Random people: I go for 1033MHz cause it seems cool :O, and I might take ThermalTake, because Antec is.. expensive. I think 1250w is enough because I might be overclocking Q6600, and there might be plans of getting another 4870X2. Can anyone tell me how to see if the PSU have 2x8 Pin connecter?

looks like you have enough connectors too run 3 4870x2, pity crossfirex doesnt go up to an effective 6 gfx cards :P
Re: A not-so-budget build (Intel & ATi)
Great! Thanks alot to Ramuthra for all the information. Now I can finally buy all the parts :P
