I'm building a rocket!

Before I continue this post, I need to explain something about the Dutch School system.

There are 4 types of highschool education available, VWO, HAVO, MAVO, VMBO. I'm currently doing VWO which is the hardest and takes 6 years (12 to 18) I'm currently in my 5th year (Second to final)

When VWO students are in their final year they need to write an essay about a subject of their interest, the essay needs to have a study load of at least 100 hours and students get 6 months to complete it.

As I mentioned before, I'm in my second final year and today my chemistry teacher came with an interesting offer, the top 7 students of 5VWO were selected (Including me) to participate in a special project, where we can do our final essay in this year instead of having to do it the next year and instead of writing an essay we will be building a rocket for the cansat program.

Man, I'm so psyched about this, it's an awesome opportunity to distinguish myself from the other students and to build a rocket of course, which is practically every man's hidden desire.

Yay for me!

I'm gonna go hide. You with a rocket in your hands are not to be trusted :P

But seriously, that sounds like an amazing opportunity. You are one lucky guy. I hope you enjoy it.

That sounds awesome, well done on getting picked. Not a surprise, tbh. It would be more surprising if you weren't picked ^_^

So when do you get to begin to build the rocket?

In November is the kickoff according to the agenda on the site.

Rockets are not that bad, all you need to buy is a motor, make your own fiberglass frame and stick a remotely activatied parachute in the rocket itself.

I doubt it'll be as easy as you said, because the site says it has a workload of between 100 and 200 hours.

Yeah but that's the _professional_ way, I want to see it done the Pieman way, as much explosives used as possible with minimum concern for safety.

I wouldn't know, I believe there's an information day planned sometime soon, so I guess that's where they'll explain everything. I doubt it's going to be taller than 50-60 cm though.

Do us a favor, stick a RaGEZONE logo on it and name it RaGEcket.
