[Help] My 360 Doesn't Play .avi extension files from my laptop?
Ok well I have been trying to watch a movie since yesterday Saturday night. And every time I open up a video I get "Video Error - Files needed to display video are not installed or not working correctly" and they work fine on my laptop they work fine in Windows Media Center on my laptop but when I try it out on my Xbox 360 it just gives me that same error and I've tried everything I installed the Extension I have entered the serial number I have tried making the folder with all my movies "Shared" and I had moved 5 of my movies into my "Videos" shared folder... And still I cannot see the videos can somebody help me out? Thank you,
Alan.
Re: [Help] My 360 Doesn't Play .avi extension files from my laptop?
360's dont play avi's as it is the main format for pirated video's, so there incompatible due to anti-piracy
Re: [Help] My 360 Doesn't Play .avi extension files from my laptop?
Actually DivX is supported, it has been for like a year now, you do need to download the proper file from Xbox Live, it's not automatic because they have to pay for each user that downloads it.
Re: [Help] My 360 Doesn't Play .avi extension files from my laptop?
Yeah, it does support it. Viewed plenty of .avi anime on my 360 for a long time. Update your 360.
Re: [Help] My 360 Doesn't Play .avi extension files from my laptop?
Get TVERSITY.
It's an excellent app that allows you to play whatever format on numerous media systems, including the 360. It decodes videos while streaming. It's very easy to set up.
Re: [Help] My 360 Doesn't Play .avi extension files from my laptop?
how do you set it up? I tried and it was not very easy! :P

I have updated my 360 to the newest xbox live and everything and I have set up my Extension for my 360 on both my 360 and my laptop and yet it still doesn't work also are you sure the 360 doesn't read .avi extension if so can you tell me a video converter that can turn videos into divx? Anyways thank you guys for all your support.

I don't understand what you mean? Do you mean that you tried it and it wasn't easy?
Also when installing Tversity I get this error :
Tversity cannot be installed on Windows Vista when User Account Control (UAC) is enabled. If you wish to run TVersity you need to disable UAC, reboot your computer (required after changing UAC state) and then start again the TVersity setup wizard
Re: [Help] My 360 Doesn't Play .avi extension files from my laptop?
Turn off UAC then. I had the message as well, and turning it off sorted it out. (If you don't know how to do this, go to HELP AND SUPPORT in the 'start' menu and search for "Turning off UAC" )
Using TVersity was easy to use imo, and I'm pretty illierate with computers. My 360's on wireless [via adapter], PC's connected to a wireless router, likewise with my Laptops. Installed TVersity, designate where the files are [movies/pics/etc.] (Shared Folders generally)... start media sharing server and away you go. My 360 picked up the TVersity (you have to switch source) and I just navigate to where the videos are within the shared folders.
If you're adding new videos you need to upgrade the shared folder list else it won't show up on the 360.
Re: [Help] My 360 Doesn't Play .avi extension files from my laptop?
best to encode stuff to mp4 for xbox, anime wise anyway ;p
