Adding and editing of items

I apologise if this is a nooby question, I have attempted to search for existing threads on the subject but have been unsuccessful.

Where are the items stored within the mangos or client files?

I would like to attempt to make my own item (not from scratch, just a Frankenstein of a skin and edited specs)

They are in the Database , Mangos --> Item_Template

Or if you are asking about something else than sorry for my mistake.....
