Your Favorite Gaming Consoles
Since we've had lots and lots of these, i figured i would just make 1 topic for this and keep it in it.
There are a few guidelines:
-Respect each others choice, whether you want to play a game on the PS3, PC or NDS is your own choice, you want your choice to be respected, so respect the choice of others.
-If you are going to compare, then keep it constructive, if you think 1 is absolutely better then the other, then don't even bother posting here. Each 1 of these have their advantages, for example the PSP has a much larger and detailed screen with the power to make it great for "realistic" driving games, whereas the NDS has Touchscreen and dual screens which gives it's games new ways to play them. Whichever you prefer, realize that both of these are excellent devices, so keep it to why you prefer something, not that 1 is shit and the other is great.
-Do not.. and i seriously mean DO NOT start stupid arguments regarding the graphics etc of the Xbox 360 and Playstation 3, i will delete it and possibly infract you while i'm at it. Both of these consoles have in a sense similar hardware, the 360 has a better GPU, faster discdrive and a easier to code for CPU, whereas the PS3 has a slightly lesser GPU, a slower discdrive but has like triple the space on a disc and it's CPU although harder to code for, can handle quite a bit more. In the end both of these systems offer amazing gameplay, if you were to see ingame videos of both without it saying which is which, then you wouldn't know the difference.
So i'm not kidding when i say i don't want this crap, by all means discuss whether Xbox Live is worth the money or if the price of the PS3 is too high, but do not start on the graphics or things like that, because it will not be tolerated. This goes for the whole section btw.
Now go ahead and post why you prefer which. ;)
Mine would be the Xbox 360, i own everything but the PS3, which i will eventually buy, just right now the price is too high for just a few games that i really want.
Worst would be the Wii imo, this thing has been gathering so much dust... too many shit games come out for it, everyone is out for a quick buck which hurts the quality of the games.

Re: What is your favorite gaming machine.
Well, no old school here? :p
Kidding, haha. My favorite system that I've always loved and still play would have to be the Nintendo 64. Almost every game for that system has been epic fun. One of my favorite games for the 64 is 007 Goldeneye; I could play that for hours on end.
Coming in second to the 64, would the first two Playstation series. Both systems had countless games, and for the time being, PS2 had some kick ass graphics. Final Fantasy 7 for the PS1.
I've actually never tried any of the newer systems, seeing as I'm broke.
But overall, PC would have to be my favorite.

Re: What is your favorite gaming machine.
I really can't have a solid final decision, purely because i've not even used some of the above..
Personally, im going to choose Xbox 360.. because its one of theeee most advanced gaming solutions.
It already has a wide selection of over a thousand games, ranging from FPS' to Racing & simply party games..
The graphics are amazing (definitely depends on your game), especially on the elite..
The "Dashboard" feature is an amazing idea.. due to its versatility and sleek design.
Lastly, the Xbox Live system. Now This, is what tops off the Xbox 360.. It enables people to play with ANYBODY, ANYWHERE in the world. Although it costs, the price tells you, that it beats the PS3's free online system.

Re: What is your favorite gaming machine.
Clearly the PC should win on an MMORPG forum, I mean how could there be any other choice?
-
Re: What is your favorite gaming machine.
Because most of us don't just play MMORPG's, some of us not at all. :P
While the PC does offer the best graphics, it also requires you to keep updating it. You got a 360 now for 130 euro here, 160 for the Pro, with that you can play amazing looking games and you are guaranteed that the games will always run smooth.

Re: What is your favorite gaming machine.
i like the 360 b/c it has alot of games i play, and it still allows you to plat the orginal xbox games, the PS3 only allows you to play some PS/PS2 games on it, so i think just the use of it is great, kinda like the PS2 was when it came out

Re: What is your favorite gaming machine.
Actually if you got the right version of the PS3 then it will play all games, if you got the wrong version (currently in Europe that's the only 1 we get...) then you can't play older games at all.
The original PS3 actually had a dedicated chip to play them, later it used software like the 360.

I actually just got owned. :$:
Anyway, another feature, which im pretty sure of is something that should be taken into consideration.
Take the PS3 for example.
When you buy in US its a completely different version to the one you bought in Europe.
Therefor, compatibility isn't good & american games can't be played on a european PS3 & vice versa.
The Xbox on the otherhand allows you to do so.

Re: What is your favorite gaming machine.
Just to expand on what you were saying Gohan; x360's have slightly better GPU's than the PS3, however the PS3's CPU is vastly superior to the x360's. This gives the PS3 capabilities to do more than just game (ie. you could potentially use it as a PC), unlike the x360 which will never be able to do anything more.
As much as i love consoles because games will never lag (the hardware your console possesses will ALWAYS meet the requirements of any game made for that console), i hate using a controller especially for FPS games. The ONLY instances in which i think a controller is better is for driving/racing games, and some rpg's and adventure games (ie. DMC4 and the new PoP). It is for that reason that i of course love the PC.
Not only because games are developed alot faster for PC's, but also because you can change how well the game looks and performs based on your system. And lets face it, you can never mod a console to the same degree that a PC can be modded. Gaming on PC stops you from needing to switch between machines to do different tasks - a PC does it all! And for FPS games nothing can beat a keyboard and mouse.

Re: What is your favorite gaming machine.
True, the CPU from the PS3 is way more powerful, problem is that there is afaik not a single game that actually uses all of that power. Cross-platform games definitely don't use all that power, same way that not all the graphics stuff is used for the 360, not all the storage of the Blu-Ray disc or the full speed of the DVD drive (the beginning from the disc is about twice as fast as the BR drive in the PS3, the further it goes out, the slower it gets, but even at the edge of the disc it's quite a bit faster), in the end these games are made to work on both platforms without having to do much extra work.
This is also why games such as GoW and MGS (besides the big budgets) look way better then other games on the console, because these were specifically made to make the best use of the consoles.
In the end it's all a toss-up, both look great, both have great games, it's all down to which you prefer.

I guess i should own you again?
The 360 and Wii also has the same regions as the PS3, the US uses NTSC and we use PAL here. Some games can be bought region free, but most of them aren't.
Afaik, only handhelds are region free, consoles are always region bound. Both of those statements could be incorrect, but that only goes for older devices, this is correct for the current generation.

Source?
I'm actually more keen on gaming on my PC due to it being so expanable in so many aspects, whist the PS3 is just a console and thats it.

Re: What is your favorite gaming machine.
Metacritic. It got all games listed that been reviewed. So unless you know games that been released, but haven't been reviewed by any of the sites, then feel free to correct me. ;)

Re: What is your favorite gaming machine.
I was mostly aiming for what you actually use the most right now, not 10 years ago. ;)

Re: What is your favorite gaming machine.
I think the 360 but the PC is good but it costs a lot to have it at its best.
-
Re: What is your favorite gaming machine.
If it was for pure usage it'd be my PSP due to two and a half hours a day on the bus...
However for actual gaming it'd be the 360 since I moslty watch anime on the PSP and rarely actually game on it.
