I've install MSSQL Express 2005 on my VPS server. after all steps i've follow i know that the database server is ready.
But when i use GM Tools to connect to my server, it said cannot connect, when i go to server again and check SQL port 1443, i can't see any open port. i also disable firewall on my server, anyone can help me with this matter ??
Try your localhost. 127.0.0.1
maybe some security settings... block outgoing port..?
and... try connect via lan...
if connecting.... it'm means that u must open non-local conections to Mssql.
Run the GM tools on the vps itself and use 127.0.0.1 as ilovepie says as port 1433 should not be open to outside connections for security.
Also sql express installs as a "named instance" by default and that will prevent connections. Look up the mssql server service in the services manger (admin tools in the control panel) and make sure it doesn't have a slash it it. If it does reinstall sql and this time use he "advanced options" in the installer and pick a default instance. There is a nice guide showing how to install express on the v2 guides topic in my sig.

Yes that PDF. If you can connect via the management studio and not with the gm tools then either mssql is installed as a "named instance" or you didn't set "mixed mode authentication". Open services fromt he admin tools folder of your control panel and see if the mssql server entry has a slash in the name (e.g. MSSQLSERVER\EXPRESS), if it does then you need to reinstall as a default instance. If you don't put a user and pass in the management studio then you have NT authentication only so tick the "NT Auth" box on the login panel of the GM tools and use your windows user/pass.

Use the guides like everybody else. I'm not a personal trainer and i know about half of the people trying to set up a cabal server simply don't have the knowledge. That would mean i had to teach linux, mssql and vmware too and i'm simply not doing that. I wrote my guides as a compromise.
as chumpy told you, we do not do personal service, we are merely forum moderators. If you folow the guides you will be fine.
