I feel that 508 servers, since trading, shops, private chat etc. have been released is starting to go down hill now. Hardly any servers have a stable economy. Most servers, you dont even have a challenge to portray, you just max your skills and off you go to pk.
It's making them get a little boring?
Dont you think that we need a server that has PK in it, but also has a range of skills to train, and a stable economy? And most of all, a STABLE framework.

yeah..as i've heard..508 servers aren't as stable as the old runescape servers XD
Well, that just made me laugh.
As some 508 servers can be as stable if not more stable that 317 servers.
Some can, Byte, However most cannot. Take the good old RaGESCAPE atm. It's battling stability issues due to framework issues. The currently available bases are deplorable and need to be replaced. I've been programming my own source, and it works out a lot better if you error-handle better, and use a moderate amount of concurrency (Thread and process utilization). 508's are just a stepping stone to get to Official revision's specifications.
Getting to the topic, I concur with your thoughts. 508's are horrible, and are just like the 317's were (and still are). We need more working skills, and lower rates to make it fun again. Drops need to be properly utilized, and an economic breakdown needs to be given at a minimum for these P-servers to work
The reason there so unstable is because people mask errors leaving them to cause other issues such as disconnection...
If you have a nullpointer, mask it, yeh it will stop that. But then you will get crashes client sided....

I think I may learn java better, then code my own base. But I never got that advanced in coding, although it was nice to have reached the top-standards and be higher than most of the developing community with what I made (Trade, shops, private chat before most) I never fully completed what I wanted to get done with my runescape coding life.
So I may create a new source from scratch to try and bring sense to the community of runescape developers. also I am looking at buying a Mac Mini to run as a server, and from that I will host websites, databasess, and a range of servers (Runescape, SA:MP, and maybe Habbo - if I become that sad xd.)
But yeh, I hope people see sense, before they destroy servers over again.
The problem is that no one learns java coming into private server programming, of 'rs coding' as they call it. Not very many understand that you need to program on concurrency in order to manage your server better, and process faster... For instance, my base (which I am in the process of writing), I have 4 engines... Yes, 4 engines. and each engine runs a minimum of two threads. The thread for processing data, and a high-priority thread for timing(if necessary in the engine). If they can adapt to concurrency, and proper error handling, servers'd never crash
Indeed, it annoys me that people just use tutorials, which most of the time can ruin the server source as it is not fuly-coded to support the features that they have within the server.

Although a lot of servers have attempted to do such things.. many have failed to keep their stable economy because all of their players complained and left.
The Majority of people who come to play Runescape private servers come to "go behind the scenes" and see what its really like to be level 126 otherwise many would just stick to the original Runescape. Am i right?
People don't want to play a second runescape which is far less stable and is almost as hard.
But there's a fundamental missing. To emulate a server is to attempt to make an actual copy of the original game; when done so, users can experience the full force of the game, whether it be a fully paid game, or a fre with an option to pay. The purpose of private servers is to give less rich people an opportunity to experience what they're missing. And they still miss a lot, with all these bad servers with lackluster qualities.
Indeed, if you have a private server and everyone is level 126, it is boring, yes? But, if you have a stable economy where players have to earn items/money, and also you put the exp not to high/low, they have a challenge, but it wont be boring, like runescape its self is.

508 servers lack in so much, compare a 317 with 508, sure the graphics can be HD and stuff, but who cares? I like servers that you can actually do something..
Most 508 servers (from what I downloaded) dont even have the correct NPCs in places, I mean, a dragon in draynor? Please...
And my last issue, agreeing with your last post.. I hate servers that just give you all the hard items from first login or something.. Maybe, instead a drop party that has some valuable rares for which people trade and buy for?
