I'm pretty sure I set everything up right but when I go to WinSCP and try to connect it tells me "Network error: Connection timed out." I've got the password correct and I'm pretty sure I have the IP correct also. I triedthe ifconfig command on CentOS but it says "command not found."
This is a basic network connectivity problem. It is pointless even trying winscp until you can ping the IP address you are connecting to. Firewalls will get in the way and there is also a whole load of mysterious VMWare related networking problems which can be down to anythng from bad config to plain bad luck. I have used VMWare a lot at work and home and i have never had the problems that seem to pop up here so much.
The ifconfig command only works if you are running as root. Type "su - root" at the command prompt and then enter the root password, you won't see anything as you type but it is reading the password so type anyway. You should now be able to use root commands like ifconfig.
Alright I got the command to work but it doesn't seem to be using the IP I gave it. Here's what it shows:

This is because you didn`t specified any ip for it and the dhcp server coudn`t be found or gave invalid ips.
Uh ok. How do I fix it then?
It's under the menu somewhere under network settings. I have no desktop so i'm not sure.

Uh, not sure what you mean. Do I go to System Settings > Network or something else? Then what am I supposed to do?

For Primary Nameserver do I put the same as Default Gateway?
I made the Primary Nameserver the same as the Default Gateway then went and did ifconfig but it still looks the same as the screenshot above.
Ok, I made progress. I changed it to NAT and it now has an IP but WinSCP still isn't connecting.
The nameserver is the DNS server anfd should not be the same as your gateway. Use the DNS servers you find when typing "ipconfig /all" in windows.
Ah, so that would seem to be my problem then.
Ok, I fixed it but I still can't connect. I'm at the login screen of CentOS I disable both VMware adapters then I try to connect but it doesn't.
I've still got the same problem.
First is your linux firewall and SEL disabled on Centos?(type service iptables status) Second have all the computers in the house been given there own static ip? (exm my windows is 192.168.2.4 and my centos is 192.168.2.5 and my brothers computer is 192.168.2.3) if you have done all of that and you can access the internet on CentOS side then try to ping your windows from centos and your centos from windows and see how things go.
try to run with centos 5.
Then try re-configure the network (use bridge networking).
You must use a unused IP for your CentoS (ex: your windows is 192.168.1.5 then centos should be 192.168.1.6).
The firewall is off. All computers have their own static IP. I don't have an internet browser so how do access the internet?Quote:

That asks your computer to see if it can see google. Also if you know googles ip address you can try pinging that as you will get a response even if your DNS isn't working wich is a better test as pinging "google.com" will fail if DNS is not working even if you are connected.
Have a look at the networking guide in my sig as you need to know what type of network you have for startes. Then we are going to need some detailled info on your ip address ranges, gateways and netmasks and vmware settings to be able to answer this.
