Patching The Server Crasher For Servers.
To "not get hacked" by server crashers and Kore, change you're matchserver port. Remember, it's hexdecimal.

Well, according to Jacob, it would appear you just changed the port matchserver runs on..
The inherit problems in that are self-explanitory. This is no "patch".

Re: Patching The Server Crasher For Servers.
It's what it is and it stopt the bot from getting in - now if you're going to spend time looking for the port that's you're own probleme.

No, that doesn't stop it - if you would setup a sniffer to check for what packet is being sent, you would be capable of noticing the specific byte couplet being responsible for the crashing of the MDaemon.
To find the port:
1) Run the client, connect, and use a networking tool to view active connections (As Phail stated, netstat with the "-n" argument works fine).
2) Disassemble the client, check the arguments for connecting to the server (Including port).
3) Check any number of other client files responsible for storing the connection port of the server.
All in all, it would take a matter of seconds to "update" the crasher.

Re: Patching The Server Crasher For Servers.
Like I said, check UDP port that's relative to 6000 and you got it, rofl, or hook connect() and you got it.

Cause it's true. 100% of users at this forum know how to do that. Don't they.

It doesn't matter if no one at this community isn't aware - it only takes one developer from any other community.

"A quick change of Internet Protocol is a fix";
If you meant requested a different IP address assignment was the fix, then no, that wouldn't be - the actual fix would be stripping the byte sequence resulting in the crash.
-
Re: Patching The Server Crasher For Servers.
the ones release on gzp... changing the IP IS a quick fix.

That'd be "IP address", as stated; eitherway, the release on GzP isn't packed, therefore, you can alter the IP address called in plaintext.

Re: Patching The Server Crasher For Servers.
lol hook a bit of stuff in the match server, and scan the incoming packets before calling the trampoline :p
-
Re: Patching The Server Crasher For Servers.
Phail. Can't you make a patch for Kore. You created so you know the best what's doing.

Very original response - I'll patch the flooder for free for anyone who wants to use it against a server you "patch".
As stated, just hook the MDaemon socket, and filter dangerous characters.

Kiddie threats - anyone with half a mind would just use a botnet or proxy setup to send malicious packets.

Using your firewall to monitor that is overkill - the same tactic netstat takes to monitor active connections is the same NOD32 SS takes.
__
Anyways, Wizkid, I'd love to hear you explain what the header is of the malicious packet, if you even know that much..
