I'm getting a VPs but I am worried. Now my database is here in sqlexpress, can anybody tell me how im going to transfer my database here over to the vps? im a noob and im still new, please go easy on me and explain :x
First on your computer open up your "SQL Server Management Studio" and connect
Next hit the left pointing arrow on Databases so you can go further in to see GunzDB. From here you will
right click GunzDB and press tasks.
Next press backup, select where you want to place the file and hit ok.
Now where ever you saved this you will go and find the .bak file you created and transfer it to your
vps
From here we will go onto the vps, find the file we transfered to the vps and open up "MSSQL Server Management Studio again"
We will go into databases and "Create New". Name it Gunz.DB
Now after that is created, right click GunzDB and go into tasks.
Now we will go into "Restore"
In the restore tab we first have to load the file so press the little dot beside "From Device" and then
press the "..."
Click add and then find your file.
Now the last part is press the check at the bottom where it says your database and go into options.
Hit overwrite existing database, then press ok.
Now you have transferred your db
Now remember, you have to set up your GunzDB Odbc before the server will run
I set up the Odbc connection as exactly the way i set up on my computer? And what if my vps doesn't have sql stuidio express? i instal it there?
yes you can set up your ODBC the exact same way and yes you need to install MSSQL if your computer doesnt have it already
Can you also please teach me how to transfer my web page over? o.o this is my first time getting a vps and im very exicted and nervous at the same time, i am aware i sound very stupid, but please help? ;o
Oh its just an empty computer with windows on it, that makes it so damn much easier to understand lol, thanks! damn i gotta make everything all over again. zz. now gotta set up wamp there too -.-
its exactly like if it was your home computer, just install xampp, wamp, or watever you want and transfer the pages over, if you set up everything up like your home computer, then all the settings are the same except your Wan IP
Actually no, a vps is completely virtualized meaning there are probably 4-8 vps per server
there will be a program given to me to transfer files over, right?
ummm you can use FTP client and server, or you could just upload it somewhere
you can have a home based FTP server
http://filezilla-project.org/download.php?type=server
That'd be using remote desktop - you'll have to use a mirror (e.g.: www.sendspace.com, www.mediafire.com, www.megaupload.com, etc) to upload your files, then download them from the VPS during an RDP session. You could setup FTP, but, that's not setup by default on the average Windows server.

Is this a stable plan? I just wanna know if its stable / trustable? :x
