Yes! Marihuana is no longer banned in Argentina!
Just yesterday supreme court judges decided that having small amounts of marijuana for personal use and as long as we do not harm anyone is no longer a felony.
This is huge step. Every single day I woke up as a criminal, from now on I'm just like any other citizen. Will not need to hide no more, won't go to jail for smoking.
I waited for this day for so long!!!
Quote:
Argentina's Supreme Court on Tuesday decriminalized the possession of small amounts of marijuana for personal use, tossing out tough provincial drug laws whose penalties it deemed unconstitutional.
The high court ruling protects "the privacy of adults who are responsible for their own conduct," according to a court statement.
It said the constitution protected "the private actions of individuals who in no way offend order or public morality, or harm a third party, who answer to God free from a judge's authority."
The court ruled on a case involving the trial and sentencing of five young people arrested during a sweep in early 2006, when police seized between one and three marijuana cigarettes from each of them.
While the decision could be seen as a victory for Argentinians seeking to overturn laws which funneled many recreational drug users into the penal system, the court said in its statement that the ruling "cannot be considered legal permission to consume indiscriminately."
The verdict comes just four days after Mexico legalized possession of small quantities of drugs such as heroin, marijuana and cocaine, arguing that limited resources are better used in the fight against organized drug crime.
The change means Mexicans can possess up to five grams of marijuana, 500 milligrams of cocaine, two grams of opium or 50 milligrams of heroin without fear of prosecution.
Congratulations Mexicans!!!

Re: Yes! Marihuana is no longer banned in Argentina!
Horrah for Argentina!
Too bad I don't think America will ever get on that band wagon. Not until maybe my generation starts taking offices.
Then again..... they hold on 'dear' to it I guess for the 'job' aspect and arguments to get more money from tax payers to throw at the endless war on drugs. That and they could take the stupid "You support terrorism by smoking weed." Crap down.... Granted some way/form or another you MAY be doing that.... but if WE could have it AVAILABLE we wouldn't be trading guns for weed with Mexico/Canada/Who the hell ever they do it with. >.>
CONGRATULATIONS AGAIN ARGENTINA!!! SMOKE ONE FOR ME TOO! :)

Re: Yes! Marihuana is no longer banned in Argentina!
Well then, in that case... it's not really legal if you think about it. I mean, sure you are allowed up to 5 grams of weed, but the drug dealer, or someone he's associated with obviously has to have more if they want any form of good business, and they could be charged for it you know? All that's left is for them to legalize it, regardless of amount. Until then, enjoy your weed!

Yeah, all the laws are like.
Just like copyright laws on DVD's.
You are allowed to make back-up copies for your personal use as long as you own the original disc. BUT... it's still illegal to break or bypass the copyright protection in order to make that back-up copy.
So technically it's still illegal even though it's legal...

Do you know why most kids start smoking to begin with?
It's because their friends are doing it and to look cool. Therefor making it legal makes it less cool, because we all know how uncool legal things are, so in the end less people will be pressured into smoking to begin with.
So then you're only left with the few that are bound to smoke regardless are legality.
And even making legal in public wouldn't be that bad. Of course there would still be conduct laws, so you can't go about doing whatever. But most people can act rather normal when high, that is unless they're completely bombed and don't know wtf they're doing. But you aren't going to get that way with a maximum allowed legal amount of weed.
-
Re: Yes! Marihuana is no longer banned in Argentina!
I don't want to be able to smoke in public. Marihuana and cigarettes must be equalized. In Argentina 1 year ago they banned cigars from public places, no restaurants (they can have smokers zone but divided and air conditioners to clean the smoke), no shopping malls, no anywhere. Marihuana should be banned that exact way. Public smoking has a lot to do with all the cash tobacco companies place for governments. Until the gov starts selling pot or allowing legit selling points we could never have an unlimited smoking zone other than our houses.
The only thing I wanted was to be able to have 2 joints always rolled up in my pocket and no1 can take me to jail. I can wait until I'm at home to smoke!!
In order to gain some freedoms we must always give up others.

Very unreal. Cigars are legal and people still smoke them cause they are cool.

Re: Yes! Marihuana is no longer banned in Argentina!
it still is junk, and that means 1 more type of junk for us to consume whilst there it is for the 'others': profit, and more profit.

Way to invent a reason without even thinking it over at all. The only reason people don't smoke weed as much as alcohol is that the former is illegal. There are way, way more drinkers in the world than weed smokers.
It's about the kids too. Seeing the grown-ups smoking makes them want to do the same. Just like kids seeing their parents drunk often in their childhood has a far higher chance to become alcoholics themselves. It's natural. They learn from their elders. That's why public drinking, even a pint of beer, is illegal most places.
I can easily get so high I can't stand on my feet with 5 grams. It's called quality.

Re: Yes! Marihuana is no longer banned in Argentina!
I fully endorse this step toward the logical conclusion of completely legalising all drugs.
-
Re: Yes! Marihuana is no longer banned in Argentina!
why, man? if only that people choose to forget lethal drugs, there wouldn't be problems of sort. life isn't that boring.

Because most illegal drugs aren't lethal and those that are are only made more lethal by their criminal status
-
Re: Yes! Marihuana is no longer banned in Argentina!
In australia we are allowed 3 grams.

I was wrong, excuse me, but it still does self harm, often along with a guaranteed cost
. It sure isn't the quickest way to kill yourself, with cancer.

Reading the whole thing works too.
Same goes for alcohol and anything else. YOu have the ones to do it and fit in because their friends are doing, their parents do/did it, and so on. Then you have the ones that will do it regardless.
And the reason most cigars are banned from public places is because they stink to hell and high water. Cigarettes and weed don't stink nearly as bad.

Alcohol is also a lot more readily available than weed. Especially around here theres a liquor store on a corner within just about every 3 blocks or so. Along with it being sold in 7/11's, and plenty of other places.

And then you just repeated what I said but worded differently. And drinking in most places is illegal because of the effects.
Drunk people cause more harm than high people. Always have, at least in my area.
-
Re: Yes! Marihuana is no longer banned in Argentina!
If there were more people smoking weed there would be a higher demand for it. With demand comes supply. The problem today is the demand, not the supply.
No I didn't repeat what you said. I'm not talking about the direct harm being high causes, but children getting high. You must be a fool to think that's OK.

Re: Yes! Marihuana is no longer banned in Argentina!
Sisters boyfriend lives in mexico (med school) and he told me ages ago that if he wants to get high all he needs is like 10 bucks or something and he gets a bigasss fatasss bag of weed and they drive it straight to his house and everything. In any case, technically anything is legal in mexico if you got the money to silence the cops trust me anything is legal. But yeah this is one of the things we should do instead of putting people in jail for possesion and sometimes releasing criminals who murder / rape because of overflow in prison system so someone who was caught with a lil amount of weed is being jailed while someone who's murdered and raped is being let go so they can go murder and rape again, plus we're wasting tax money on the person who's in jail for posession etc.. anyway good to hear there finally moving forward.

In India, if we get caught, it's pretty simple - give em' a joint and they'll let you go. :D ... Corruption FTW!

Correct me if I'm wrong, and I probably am, but I heard somewhere that in the year 2010 if you're not a legal citizen of the Netherlands you can no longer smoke weed legally. I've got a hard time believing this considering what weed does for the tourism.
I don't smoke cigarettes but I do smoke weed, I've never felt the urge to go have a cigarette, which is great, cause I fucking hate smoking cigarettes(irony ftw). In Sweden it's ?56 for 5g which is kind of expensive considering you still have to pay 56 euro regardless of the strain, white widow, ak47 all the same when it comes down to the price.
Since Sweden is a pretty conservative country and we like to follow the US on whatever they do, I'll chew one of my ball out of the sack if it ever gets legal here. If you were to get caught and then give the cop some money or a joint from your stash he'd grab a telephone book and beat you with a baton, leaves no bruises. Ftw.
Sweden's policy on drugs is harsh since count A) The amount of drugs you got on you, B) The THC amount in your weed. So a woman who was terminally ill and could barely walk out her bedroom or take a shower without assistance. When she smoked she finally felt the need for food and she could walk around fairly normally without any help. She had some weed at home which she had for personal use, at a quite large quantity, 200g or so. She got sent to prison. Love Sweden.
