WinSCP cant connect

Alright, Someone help me. Im following chumpy's video guide- im at cabal video where i should be installing cabal files but, i cant seem to connect using WinSCP. I have everything typed in correct. I tried messing around with connection of VMware. Bridged connection doesnt work for me, i asume its because i have a router. Nat connection works so thats what i have connected right now. Anyway i went to terminal and did the ifconfig and it says "command not found" so at this point i donno what to do. if anyone is familure with chumpy's guides or the video guides please help me out.

hmm you can try in vmware network to use host-only! and what winscp error say?connection refused/connection lost etc?:):thumbup:

host only connection doesnt work
and when i try to connect with WinSCP "cannot connect: connection timed out" appears

Try ping from windows the centos ip!::) and see what happens

Is sshd running?

im a noob, dont bash me for it.

no i dont have sshd running. whats sshd? where can i get it. what is it?

Guide doesnt show sshd whatever it is. I have WinSCP, Putty, VmWare, and SQL server management studio express. those are the only programs i seen cyber37 have in the guide.

cypher if you can help me out. whats sshd, why do i need it, what does it do, where can i get it, how do i use it. Those would be my questions to you.

ssh allow you to control centos via putty/winscp
you can start ssh by using the following:service
/etc/init.d/sshd start

a simple google search would have returned "http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Secure_Shell" also to this completely proven to me that you are unworthy of my help, you do prefer asking here than googleing for a basic answer.

The hell with all that, just type service sshd status and tell me what you got back, if it`s running then triple check firewalls and connection between linux and windows os.

Omg i don't think he knows anything about linux.....or ssh....he never heard about it:):P
