How is it to play cabal offline/LAN server on single pc?
I would like to ask from the people who play cabal with the server running all at the same pc.
Base on my specs:
AMDX2 2ghz
1gig ram
256mb 8500gt
What do you think? Will it run at playable state? I'm planning to play it offline alone or maybe in LAN with three of my friends. What do you say?
Re: How is it to play cabal offline/LAN server on single pc?
Based on your specs I would say yes, you can do it. However, you will probably face lag from time to time as SQL, VMware CentOS, and the Cabal client is a lot of processing for one PC.
Your largest problem is Ram, CentOS uses on average 250-300 Mb per channel with 0 players logged in. I would devote at the least 512 Mb to VMware, leaving your system with 512, if you are running Vista, you will be hitting bottlenecks and Ram swap issues. If CentOS runs out of Ram you could see Channel crashes and complete service shutdown.
Long story short, it is always better to use one PC (preferably 2) to run the server and a different PC for running the client. You can avoid a lot of issues this way and be able to pinpoint real conflicts in the server and not just performance issues with your PC.

yeah, you can also have login problems and your client will load pretty hard
Re: How is it to play cabal offline/LAN server on single pc?
This pretty much isn't going to work with only 1gb of ram even on XP if someone plays on the same computer. Even the most minimal centos install is going to need at least 400-450mb of ram in the virtual machine which isn't going to support more than a few players on one channel only. This only leaves about 500mb free for the OS, SQL and cabal. It will flatline when you load the game.
If nobody plays on the computer whilst the server is running you could just about pull off one channel with a few players. You will need the most minimal centos 5 install possible (console only) to keep it's ram requirements down.

what about 2 gig ram? dual core 2.40GHZ? for playing in LAN with 4-5 HOMEBOIES? LOL

Re: How is it to play cabal offline/LAN server on single pc?
I use my Dell Latitude D820
Win 7 Ultimate
Intel Core Duo 2.0 Ghz
4 Gb Ram (3.5 accessible)
nVidia NVM 110S 128 Mb dedicated video
I run CentOS with Gnome Gui and repack 2.8b
(2 Gb allocated)
SQL 2005 Express
and the client
I can usually get 6-7 LAN players before Lag issues kick in. Mainly use it for testing drops and dungeons.
