For anyone wondering how to remove the "questionable" enc repacks from the patchtool:

Use winscp and navigate to /home/cabal/ and open cabal_patchtool.sh with the editor.

Remove these lines from the "pack" routine:

packfile /root/clientfiles/encfiles/item.txt /root/clientfiles/clientpatch/data/Item/item.enc

packfile /root/clientfiles/encfiles/data.txt /root/clientfiles/clientpatch/data/data.enc

packfile /root/clientfiles/encfiles/mob.txt /root/clientfiles/clientpatch/data/Monster/mob.enc

Save the file. Now the patchtool wont touch the Enc's that normally result in client crashes. Unpacking should be fine, its packing the files that causes problems. If you have problems running the command after the edit make sure you run a chmod 0777 on the cabal_patchtool.sh file. If you still have problems make sure you didnt change the format from unix to dos, if so use the dos2unix command and change it back.

Only do this if you plan to just use the tool and provide 0 feedback. In order to work out the problems with Data, Item and Mob ENC's the dev's need accurate bug reports, if you remove the enc's from the routine you cant provide feedback on them ^_^

can we upgrade our old 2.5 version with this one?

Yes you can upgrade from any older version or do a clean install on a fresh OS with this. Doing either will remove all old configs though so if you have customs back up /etc/cabal and /home/cabal from the server first and copy your customs in after.

Even if everything goes horribly wrong (which it won't :P) you can copy those two folders back to reset.

It won't work with sig metal and the newer items as i don't support them. Just back up /etc/cabal before upgrading and then copy your sig-metal data back in afterwards.

It works fine for me and i spent a lot of time testing the patch after making such a mess of the 2.80 one. Remember you must keep your old item.enc, data.enc and mob.enc if using the patch tool as i know it breaks those. I have re-enabled the patch tool to pack them to help work out what the problem is. See Darkcyde's post for details.

i'm just download us client and add your patch from centos directory (without decript and encrypt enc files) , was change ip in internal file then start client and it crashed!
you said that for you it working fine ?I do not represent as such can be? After all the client really falls!

I just tested again to be absoluely sure. I used a clean OGPlanet 30th Jan 2008 client + the contents of /root/clientfiles/clientpatch and it works fine. If you get the crash right at starting the client edit internal.txt in notepad as this file being in unix format will cause an instant crash (my crimson editor saves all in unix format so i do this by accident sometimes).

I did check my files. I installed a clean client and then copied the exact patch from /root/clientfiles/clientpatch from the 2.81 archive into it and tested. It worked fine.

Something in your client must be different than what is expected. A "latest version" cabalmain will do this (with an error) and one that has had it's XOR keys modified will just exit with no error. If it is a v22 cabalmain and you get an error then something in the client is definitely not what is expected and i would normally install a fresh one to a new folder to test.

I've been playing on the same exact client since v2.8 and the only crashes i have seen are where i have done something silly to the client files (which i do a lot when editing). I spent 4 entire days testing the client with the xmas event before release and nothing in the client was changed in that time. The only other crash reports with this client so far have been down to the 3 binary format files that we know don't pack well.

Exactly when does it crash? As soon as you start the client? After login/pw or logging into the channel? Does it give an error or just die?

I have noticed that when you activate 'GM Buff Skill Lv1' game immediatley exits and your back to the desktop, and the service World_0x_0x server has gone.
I have checked the logs but I cannot see anything there that would give away why the server is crashing. :(:

I've done everything alright, used US Client and patch from /root/clientfiles/clientpatch (also has tried EU Client) but... when i started cabal before log in box showing up i am getting message:

This looks like the same issue dima2207 is having. Is it the OGPlanet 30th Jan 2008 client you are using? I have done several tests now and a clean install + the 2.81 patch is working perfectly for me so i'm not quite sure what is going on here.

I have downloaded client from http://www.gamershell.com/download_23004.shtml as you recommended it. Tried again install everything from beginning but still same error. Don't know what to do more. Have tried several clients and else but still the same.

I have just done a complete reinstall again and tested BI, DS and GD as well as all inventory panels and warehouse panels and everything worked fine.

One step i do which might be different is that i clean the /root/ folder before doing an install, i remove the 2 tar.gz files and the folders as well as xservices.sh and cabal_install.sh (and anything else i left in there). To be really clean you could manually remove /etc/cabal and /home/cabal too but cabal_install should do that anyway.

I then re-copy _all_ of the files and folders from the xmas release and do a cabal_install followed by cabal_config. Next i reinstal the client to a new folder (the one Grandas linked) and copy the /root/clientfile/clientpatch files into the client, edit internal.txt and launch.

Watch for errors during cabal_install as it does expect that /root/clientfiles folder to exist and if you don't copy that then it won't extract the new client files. This is the only reason i can think of which would cause us to get different results.

OK i have done everything as you said. Cleaned all these folders maked clean install of server files and client files patched it with /root/clientfile/clientpatch/ files edited internal.txt with my gameserver ip and launched but still i have got same error. omg my brains will blow up.

No. I am not changing anything. I will test that client patch and will edit post.
EDIT: tested it. problem not resolved. still giving error.

There are the logs of cabal. Can't see any errors but maybe you will see, Chumpy.

look in your cabal installation in data folder all your .enc files (or most anyway) Have 0 byts/kb data right ?

This has been tried and it didn't work. It would involve recreating all of the data for warps and things like that by hand using little more than guess work. There is also a .bin file server-side that probably doesn't contain the data it needs to as well.

same prob. as magraopb... but when i used RZPatch... it worked fine.. though the chaos lamp for global service is bugged!

The problem is down to the enc file repacking and i'm still not sure why. The reason i suggest using Lost-Spirit's patch + my caz.enc/caz_msg.enc is because his patch was around for a long time without problems and mine is just the updated caz files and some fixes to the dialog text. There should not be any problems there at all if using the correct files as this is the "backup" i go to when trying to work out this enc packing problem.

The global lamps were not fixed in the client they were fixed in optionpool.scp so they should work regardless of the client patch you use.

You can run it on debian but you must use the "alien" command to install the rpm files as cabal_install.sh won't work. Just edit it to see what commands it uses to install and use the alien command instead of the rpm command.

If you are ok with trying to get red hat stuff to work on debian you will be ok but if you want to keep it simple try to sick with something red hat based.

I will have to install a copy on Ubuntu sometime so i can write some notes :/

Alien will do the trick for some .rpm but not for cabal-ep2.rpm. You will have to copy the files to their proper location manually then register the services.

This is something i want to do but the size is a problem. I can't use free hosting due to the size and i'm not spending days uploading dozens of split parts. If i did post a full client almost everyone will use it and on a paid host it would eat up bandwidth very quickly and it would end up costing me money.

mssql and mysql are two different things ..

Open WinSCP, navigate to /root/clientfiles/clientpatch
In WinSCP : Copy all files in "clientpatch" to your computer (from Centos to Windows)
In Windows : Copy all files which you copied in above step into client folder (overwrite all)

Hey, I'm new at cabal. So I have a question. Can I run server on freebsd or debian ? Or it must be CentOS, if yes, than why ?

Almost any linux can be used but centos (or other red hat based linux) is easiest. I can't be sure about freebsd but i know it can work on ubuntu and other debian based linux. As debian doesn't use rpm files my cabal_install script won't work and you will have to manually install the rpms with the "alien" command.

You might have a little fun with dependencies and unless you are pretty good with linux i probably wouldn't suggest something debian based but it should work if that is all you have (or want to use).

Thanks for your answer :) I'll try to make it work on FreeBSD if I success in this maybe I'll post a guide how to do it :)

Edit: So faar everything seems to be fine, I'll manualy installed all what was needed. But I got stuck on manualy starting server. I dont get on which step service cabal is added, I suppouse, service cabal is added when cabal-chnserverCB-1.0-2.rpm is installed. I cant install it cos I dont have any server using i386 architecture. Maybe there is a chanse that u can recompile ur rpm's for diferent architectures or maybe u can tell me how server can be started manualy. Anyway somehow I get feeling that I wount be able to run server on a different than i386 architecture.

P.S. I'm failed with seting it up on freebsd cos its not linux based OS, its UNIX. And to use it on unix I need to have source code of all binarys. All what is written above is related to Debian Lenny 5.0 (Linux).

The rpm wasn't actually made by me but you probably don't need it i just include it to make life easier and automate a few bits. For a totally manual install this should work and allow you to skip all of the rpm files.

First you need to create a user called "cabal" with no password. Use the "adduser" command.

Next extract the ep2.tar.gz to / (above the "root" folder). The cabal_install.sh script would set permissions on all of these too in case it got changed from what the ep1 rpm set. It is probably worth verifying everything ends up where it should but as long as /etc/cabal and home/cabal contain files it should be ok.

The cabal_config script clears away old symbolic links and creates new ones as needed (and checks permissions again) so you don't need to worry about links for the actual server binaries.

Last cabal_install.sh creates symbolic links to each of the shell script "commands" for cabal so you can just type "cabal_config" instead of the full /home/cabal/cabal_config.sh.

Well i got all daemons running exept GlobalMgrSvr, dont get why it dont start, I dont get any log report, its like I dont run it at all, but I do, also tryed to run it separate, no effect... Some daemons shutdown's directly after start cos they lack that GlobalMgrSvr. Any ideas why GlobalMgrSvr dont start and there is no log report about it ?

If a daemon refuses to start and leaves no log it is usually down to it's ini file having bad values. I once forgot the # at the start of a comment line and every worldsvr refused to start after that so check through for invalid items (e.g. no # on a comment, letters where there should be numbers etc).

Nothing in the globalmgrsvr ini gets edited it's a straight copy from the templates folder on the server so i am a little confused as to why that one won't start. Try making sure you have GCC installed as i have seen one case where some very weird behaviour was caused by one of it's dependecnies being missing.

Well, now I got all daemons running. But now I'm facing one more problem, I think this will be the last one I must deal with. Why I try to login ingame, by this I mean entering my acc and pass, I dont get loginned, server just keeps put me on wait till "blue line" in client finishes its run till the end, and then I get message: smth about, try to connect later and bla bla bla. In server logs I can clearly see this:

EDIT: Nevermind, ignore the above. For some reason, most users gets an error when they copy the patch straight from CentOS /root/ folder or the one that you linked in Mediafire. I've experiment it a little and finally I got your client patch working with a little extra step.

What I did:

1) Patch with LostSpirit patch FIRST(http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?amj2zntmm1m - credits to LostSpirit),
2) In chumpy's client patch, Copy cabal_msg.enc, caz.enc, extra_obj.enc and lastly extra_obj_msg.enc (ONLY these four!) over to the game folder and overwrite the existing ones.

That's how I did it and I got no error popping up when starting CABAL. I can go in-game just fine.

All working well, but alot disconects like use mana potion and etc.. Where my problem???? I try copy files from /root/clientfiles to cabal game folder, game crashed on start. This file broke start game "extra_obj.enc" I try copy all files not inquild this one, but anyway alot disconects? Any solutions?
I am not modifing anything.. this all clear install

I had kinda same problem. I was getting DC when i use return stones. I reinstalled client files and patched them with same patch and problem was gone. I dunno why it was gone but it worked

I already solved the problem but thanx anyway. I think there are 2 Lost spirit patch exist. One from a link somewhere in this site, one after installing chummpy's server.

I tried both of them and the one i got from installed server files didn't work. But other one from link works fine.

Now i have only a problem what is my chars can't gain sp while dancing.

before have error i add item on Item.scp

Remove that item. It caused incompatibility with the game server. make sure you saved it compatible with linux.

Try to use the editor of sir chumpy like crimson editor

Hey. I got Error when i want to buy HP or MP Potions at Yerte(Alchemist) in Port Lux and some other NPC. Sometimes i can buy one or two stack and got Error at the third Stack. Pls Help O.o ...

MY Testplayers reportet to me, that they sometimes got Error when try to enter the 4th Warp Gate.

after i upgrade my server from 2.5 to TDP Cabal Ep2 repack v2.81
all okay~ but
in game i try to send an avatar high school~ nothing happen~
but other item like mithril weapon, all no problem~
did i miss anything?
upgrade server n install patch~ that all i do~

I think the Developers only develop and do no support for that cores. :(:

Try to increase the "AdditionalMissionDungeonInstanceCount" in your WorldSvr_07_XX.ini

Those two problems indicates an problem with your client. Try this client with the patchfiles provided by chumpy.
You should also provide your serverlogfiles, just in case.

D/c errors when buying potions means some of the date (prices usually) in your server data do not match the client data. This was one of the very first bugs we fixed so it means you are not using our patch and have to align data manually (or use our patch).

This is the same as the problem above, only this time it is quest/warp data that does not match.

The InstanceCount is the number of "clones" of a dungeon the server can use so unless you have over 512 players in the same dungeon (or 512 parties for a group one) it won't be this. It is a valid answer though and few even look in that file ;)

This is how it is supposed to work to make life more interesting on later maps (official does this too). There is a cabalmain in the releases section that adds the maps though.

Easy answer. Those are not ep3 costumes and our server is ep2 only. There are some guides on adding them but you need to know what you are doing as it isn't as easy as adding a few extra client files. Personally i support ep2 only as in some cases trying to add new things goes very wrong and you will then ask us how to fix something that cannot be fixed (sig metal being the perfect example).
