Launching Maple From Website
Wonder what compelled them to do this.

Dear Maplers,
MapleStory will soon be moving to a new method for starting the game client. Rather than launching the game from your desktop, the game will be launched directly from the official MapleStory website. Once the game is patched, the icon on your desktop will now direct you to the official MapleStory website. At the website, simply log in with your Nexon ID, click on the large “Start Game” button and the game will launch. It’s that easy!
Frequently Asked Questions
Q: My desktop MapleStory icon now takes me directly to the MapleStory website. How do I start MapleStory now?
A: Simple. Once you’ve arrived at the official MapleStory website, you will see a large button that says “Start Game.” Clicking on that and using your ID and password to log in will launch the game. For more detailed information, you can follow these
STEP-BY-STEP INSTRUCTIONS.
Q: What does start MapleStory from the website mean?
A: MapleStory is introducing a new method of starting the game in which players will be directed to the official MapleStory website (http://maplestory.nexon.net) in order to start the game client rather than starting the game directly from the desktop.
Q:Why are you switching to launching MapleStory from the website?
A: Moving to launching from the website allows us to do several things for our players:
- It allows your game and web experience to be combined into a single log in. You will now be logged in to all of Nexon’s websites whenever you use Start MapleStory from Website. This should make it easier for players to find game information, get technical support and switch between games.
-It helps us to better communicate with our players. By placing messages of importance on the website (in-game events, maintenance notices, technical issues, update notifications and the like), we can be sure of reaching you as you log in to the game.
-The website is already available when exiting the game. This ensures that any emergency message affecting gameplay will be visible.
-It allows us to display Web-only and community event notifications that help us enhance your MapleStory experience.
Q:Will this affect the game or how I play the game?
A:No. The only thing that is changing is how you start the game. This does not change the game or gameplay in any way.

Happy Mapling!

Quite personally there are some inconveniences with it, and I wonder if it will work on flock (my browser) as half the website launchers out there do not like flock.

No no no, I believe it will just pull your client from website, but you saying this reminded me how the localhost will work, I am sure there will be wz files but will there be a maplestory.exe now? Also I was also on the subject of people getting hacked through website, etc then they do this.

Then its pointless for the following:
If it just for localhost will sux
After this is put in we wont be able to make localhost or
loopbacks in the futures versions
And also am with ya with the hacking thingy
Re: Launching Maple From Website
same method that kms uses to connect its a real hassle how u have to login thru the website to play.
Re: Launching Maple From Website
I'm pretty sure this will further push pservers to need to create a custom client for connection. Either that, or people will mess with the client so that it redirects to their website instead of GMS. We'd just have to create a new system to make the website handle the player connections to world/login/channel.bats. The other retarded part is, they aren't taking into consideration the players that don't have a decent computer. By opening from a browser, they will be using resources to run the browser as well as the game, until the game is loaded. Then they can close the browser, but 1. Is that going to cause problems and possible disconnects from the game? and 2. Are these said players going to become so lagged that they don't want to deal with it? These are things they need to consider but thus, it's GMS.
Re: Launching Maple From Website
I don't understand why this is such a big deal. In order to launch a client from a website, you need to have that client installed on a players computer. Don't believe me? Take a look at that new nexon game DFO, the only thing the "web launch" does is force you to go to their website.

They're just trying to get traffic, that's all
Re: Launching Maple From Website
Chances are there will be a "MapleStory_Direct.exe" just like Combat Arms has when they decided to use "website launch" method for it.

Which would mean we'd have to crack the thing that forces you to launch from the website...

Yeah, it was GunZ.
Anyways, its pointless (for players) as the MapleStory website can lag like a bitch to some.
Like someone said above though, you can still access it by right clicking - properties and changing the file target to the one that opens Maple directly.
