Re: Ragezone Server Moving
Phew, 10 kittens to Mental, after this, hopefully the backups will be made faster and less downtime will be expected? :o
Re: Ragezone Server Moving
yes that is pretty much the aim of this, we hope for the best
Re: Ragezone Server Moving
Great news, looking forward to the better performance.
Re: Ragezone Server Moving
Hey there,
Yea, that's the hope of this all :)
Originally when we started hosting ragezone it was around half the size it is now so it kinda went crazy once things were running better as they were. By fall of last year the company as a whole was running out of gear and was starting to suffer crashes, reboots, downtime and the likes (mostly on our windows servers as many of our customers will tell you :( )
We've since then had a very large order of gear arrive with everyone being migrated over to the new setup.
As for RAGEZONE, the site is being moved over to:
- Phenom X4 940+
- 8GB RAM
- Dual 640GB WD drives
While it's not an extreme powerhouse (but it is a lot faster than the older rig), it's at least dedicated this time to just the site, not sharing with our other customers.
It will take some time to migrate everything since there is so many attachments. The site is moving as quick as it can, though!
Much thanks to everyone and their support as we make ragezone even more awesome!
Thanks,
Francisco
Re: Ragezone Server Moving
Glad to hear this. Hopefully we don't have to face those annoying downtime's again.
Re: Ragezone Server Moving
5 Attachment(s)
Re: Ragezone Server Moving
For fun here is pictures of the new gear as it arrived last week :)
The image with me is referred to as 'porn mountain' at the company.
Thanks,
Francisco

You cannot be serious.
For one, the amount of active members has DECREASED. Secondly, This "improved server" is SIGNIFICANTLY WORSE than the server we used to be hosted on.
I hope i have this all wrong, but we aren't being sponsored by Frantech are we? We are being HOSTED by them, in exchange for advertising... And by doing so, we had to take a severe downgrade.
Phenom X4 940+ with 8GB RAM? My desktop PC is better than this! We used to be hosted on a Quad-Xeon server!
Finally the reason for our "server busy" messages is clear...

The current server is just a dual quad 1.86Ghz, it will benifit a lot from the faster memory bus and higher Mhz to process the PHP.
RZ still spikes well into the 1500+ range on a daily basis, when RZ was taken on by us it was seeing only spikes of around 800 before it hit rock bottom.
Code:
2# free -m
total used free shared buffers cached
Mem: 8192 934 7257 0 0 0
As you can see even during heavy times RZ is still only 1 - 2 GB into it.
MySQL is entirely offloaded to a seperate server so all this box is doing is HTTPD + memcache :)
Thanks,
Francisco

Ahhh, so the MySQL isn't even on this server. So we AREN'T getting an upgrade. Great, more downtime for absolutely nothing.
This server does not need replacing, the one which is handling our MySQL does. What hardware is that server using? It's not being shared by KryptoDEV is it?

MYSQL isn't where the bottleneck is, that box is a dual quad X5335 w/ 12GB ram and runs around ~1.5 loads and 40mbit of usage.
Apache is what's really eating out the local box, RZ is doing only about 10 - 20mbit of MySQL traffic since memcache takes care of the rest of it (around 100mbit+ of MySQL when memcache wasen't running).
Memcache is a beast if you've ever used it, it makes a night/day difference.
EDIT - Krypto doesn't offload their SQL since Aleks likes handling that all locally. Krypto's site is being handled by a different box entirely, one of our customer linux nodes.

Ahh i see now where everything's hosted. Just had loads of questions cos MentaL has not been online for MONTHS and absolutely nobody else here knows anything about the server.

Hey there,
You're more than welcome to ask whatever questions you have about the gear and such, Don't take this as me being raged by you questioning our logic on things :)
Either way as I stated, we kinda got our butts kicked by an unplanned growth spurt which dragged RZ into the mix since it wasn't separated yet. It's not been the prettiest of times but that's why we spent close to $27,000 on our newest order of gear :/
I'm not even joking with the figures, i'll gladly show the invoices and cry more over it!

Actually if you could, that would be great. Don't get me wrong, I'm not questioning what you're saying, I'm just curious about what all that gear in the pictures actually are. I'm a bit of a hardware nut, stuff like this gets my juices flowing ;)
