I want to have a site where it has multiple colors, so you can change the color of the site by clicking a link. To do this, I assume I need multiple stylesheets, but with different classes in them (different color images).
What would be an easy way to do this? I want about 4 different colors...

Re: [ ? ] Switching Stylesheet
I would suggest doing the different style sheets and then somewhere on your site you should have a drop down menu picking between 1 of the 4. Also in the site filed that are being displayed you will probably have to do a variable in url thing 3 times. 1 for the other 3 style sheets.
This is what i think has to be done 0_0. There is prob an easier way, but this is all i got.. :D

Re: [ ? ] Switching Stylesheet
It's not just the background.. it's whatever you choose. You can do something like let's try this:
First add the id to the <link> tag (containing the stylesheet)
In the example its refering to the id stylesheet
Code:
<script type="text/javascript">
function changeStyleSheet(style){
var stylesheet = document.getElementById('stylesheet');
if(style == 1){
stylesheet.href="LINKTOSTYLESHEET1";
}
else if(style == 2){
stylesheet.href="LINKTOSTYLESHEET2";
}
</script>
Add that in the head section and to start changing stylesheets, do something like:
If you want to be able to change more stylesheets, add another else if argument in the function. Remember to edit the links to the stylesheets.
So on.. not tested so i'm not sure. But I can help you as much as I can.. untill I get my homework down. :<:
Edit: There is another way, I think may be easier for me. Can this page contain PHP? If so, we can use a function to get the stylesheet with either $_GET or $_POST.. either one.

Re: [ ? ] Switching Stylesheet
Yes the page can contain PHP, it's a PHP document.

Re: [ ? ] Switching Stylesheet
I got changing the style working.. but the issue is if you click a normal link, it'll use the default style on that page.. right now I have to add a function to the end of each href attribute to show the selected style on that page. I'll try to do something to get it somehow to add the function at the end of every link. I'll be posting the code soon either if I fail or succeed.
Edit: I'll I don't know how to add the function to the links manually but feel free to get help from someone else.. download's in attachments. It contains 6 files. 3 PHP files and 3 Styles.
Upload to a webserver and see if you like it or not.

Re: [ ? ] Switching Stylesheet
Store the stylesheet data in a session.
In fact, create two session variables and a quick $_GET action.
Note: If using $_POST, you don't need urldecode().

Re: [ ? ] Switching Stylesheet
Oh.. well I should have thought of using sessions.. I guess I didn't think straight. Well, gauranteed, s-p-n's is better.

JavaScript is much cooler than having to reload the entire web-page.
It would be really cool if the JavaScript sent an AJAX request to a PHP script to create the session. :thumbup1:

Re: [ ? ] Switching Stylesheet
Yeyyy! I got it! Using jQuery though.. but it doesn't require refreshing the page! :D But if you go to another page it'll use the default stylesheet. :(:
Download includes the page, styles, and jQuery v1.4.2

Re: [ ? ] Switching Stylesheet
saves for one year, doesn't require refreshing the page. (thanks to MeetMeInHabbo)
<script type="text/javascript">
//There must be at least one style, or it errors.
var styles = <?php echo $_SESSION['stylesheet']['JavaScript_Var']; ?>
//From w3schools.
function loadXMLDoc(url)
{
if (window.XMLHttpRequest)
{// code for IE7+, Firefox, Chrome, Opera, Safari
xmlhttp=new XMLHttpRequest();
}
else
{// code for IE6, IE5
xmlhttp=new ActiveXObject("Microsoft.XMLHTTP");
}
xmlhttp.open("GET",url,false);
xmlhttp.send(null);
return xmlhttp.responseText;//modified
}
function changeStyle(id)
{
for(var i = 0;i<styles.length;i++)
{
if(id==i)
{
$("link[rel=stylesheet]").attr('href', styles[i]);
var temp = loadXMLDoc('update_stylesheet.php?style='+styles[i]);
}
}
Uses Sessions, JavaScript, (unnecessary, but uses jQuery), a GET method AJAX request, PHP, and Cookies, to hold the style. Also, to the best of my knowledge (at a glance), it seems like it's secure.
Credits To MeetMeInHabbo + w3schools for a quick simple AJAX request.
Edit: Oh my, look at the size of jQuery
