UK airspace closed!

Listening to the radio, i found out all of UK's airspace will be closed (within couple of hours) apparently there is goign to be a volcano erruption on 'iceland' and ash clouds drifting over to us here at UK
List:
ALL airports in scotland closed
Manchester
Luton
Newcastle ( my town )
North Germany's airports
Frances airports

Just thaught if your going on holiday in next couple of days you wont be able to :thumbdown:
yeah, not sure how long all of this is goign to carry on for... i am guessing that it may be a while. :sneaky2:

Norway closed it's airports two hours ago.

Not like there will be alot of disruption at Aberdeen airport, they don't really fly to anywhere important :P

Scotland Airports - Closed

Yea, so hopefully all will clear soon however if the weather conditions get worse then so will the disruptions with what is currently in the UK's airspace :(

Where abouts will the majority of ash clouds be in England? Think it will reach down the Newcastle?

It is at newcastle at the moment, or is close .. 16th april; will reach southern UK

its around north east of england and in midlands.

I've spent the day at Alton Towers (the themepark) and it was freezing cold all day. The sun was blocked out by these clouds of ash, which had already reached England. Flights should be backup tomorrow morning. No biggie.

Alton towers is awesome, go on everything there..
anyway, i think its starting to errupt at the minute or going to errupt soon, it was reported it errupted last moth or was showing signs of doing so.. scientists belive, this iis causing another volcano on the island to become active.
Not sure when its errupting, but some lava has appeared around the top.
Not sure flights will be up tomorrow? it has spread over Newcaslte today; tomorrow france and london etc.. its high up at the moment, but it should lower down in time... leaving it to be until sat before all airports are functioning.

Didn't read his first post, but w/e. I'm surprised because I didn't expect this, In fact I didn't really expect it to erupt until a few more decades... Hopefully it will end soon because I want to go on vacation soon... :|

You can see ash from here in newcastle, went to the beach.. youu can see the tinge of white in a sky with no clouds.

This is mainly for health and safety, you dont want people flying out of the plan ^_^

It's been confirmed that all airspace is closed until 7am tomorrow at least. Some Scottish airports maybe allowing some flights due to the cloud movement.

I think northern island may open tomorrow, you never know.

I'm pretty sure the time just got pushed to 1pm from 7am. Honestly I don't see serious movement until a few more days. Airlines were already in a mess, I know its a nature disaster but I'd really not want to be an investor in transport, unless of course its trains or ships. They're having a whale of a time right now.

Well a few planes are cleared at the moment, its estimated that shorter craft that fly from Ireland at 1,500FT are unrestricted, because the majority of harmful ash found is about 20,000FT to 40,000FT. All the big jets travel at 30,000FT.

That smoke stuff is still floating around? Isn't it going to take weeks for that stuff to completely clear out?

It has grounded most of europes aircraft, all planes to America, are obstructed.

All flights have been prosponed from 6AM to 1PM , as a met office plane will be sent out around airports to check for any ash.

TOMORROW 7am to 1PM airspace may be re-opened, due to more volcanic ash being blown from the volcano.

It appears most of it has blown over. I've spent the weekend camping at the scottish border, and I'm sunburnt. Sunburnt!

The plane would have already crashed by the time the captain uttered the first word if the engines broke down. :P

According to Sky News, airspace has been closed until 1am tomorrow. The Royal Navy said it would go and rescue stranded passangers.

I got out of a 9am lecture tomorrow thanks to this because the professor is stranded in some place. This needs to happen more often.

Schools in East Renfrewshire I believe are having to draft in alot of supply teachers because one tenth or one eight of their teaching staff are stuck abroad.

As it seems, not for long! More ash seems to be comming towards britian soon, with the wind not taking it away.
