[request] detailed guide on installing perfect world server on ubuntu 9.10
sorry to have to request this but after searching and searching I cant find one bit of useful install on an ubuntu os.
most the guides here are for an install of windows, and any other guides are pretty much useless (too vague, missing important steps)
so I'm asking for someone with the knowledge to take a little time and present a detailed ,step by step guide to installing the server on ubuntu. from downloading the files to running the server iweb included.
thanks for anyone who will do this.

search button is your friend
Re: [request] detailed guide on installing perfect world server on ubuntu 9.10
had the search button yielded any useful information than I wouldn't have to post this. so please if you think there is a thread (which i haven't already read) that fits the criteria i am asking for then point it to me because the (search feature) is not very helpful to me.
Re: [request] detailed guide on installing perfect world server on ubuntu 9.10
bump.. still need this tutorial...
i tried on my own and can't figure out this damn beaste 1.3.6 for nothing,
i cant even start the thing ./start.sh = permission denied...
why am i denied permission if I am the owner ? i have read/write privaledge yet i can't do anything...
sure there are threads that say (guide) tutorial... but then you go into to them and they say oh well this isnt a tutorial its my own release muhahaha fooled you... and even the the links are dead and you cant even get a readme.
I m pretty sure if i read the 3 million posts in this section i might be able to screw up my filesystem pretty good.
someone please make a tutorial for the server files for use on linux without a virtual os emulator.
Re: [request] detailed guide on installing perfect world server on ubuntu 9.10
your post sounds like you haven't got basic knowledge of Linux.
I don't want to blame u, but whitout basics you have no chance to get your own native server started.
"permission denied" that appears, because you haven't set the permission of the files.
The permission you have to set to each file of the server.
You can do that with "chmod 777 /root/start.sh"
777 is the type of permission. There are also other types:
664 readpermission for all. Write permission just for users
666 read and write permission for all
775 read and using permissions for all. write permissions just for users
777 write, read and using permissions for all.
BE VERY CAREFULL WICH PERMISSION DO YOU SET!

Re: [request] detailed guide on installing perfect world server on ubuntu 9.10
well i appreciate you taking your time to answer, but...
when i work with me server files I login to ubuntu as root.
meaning its alot like windows then where as i can right click , choose properties and then change who owsn the file or give read wrote without the terminal.
though you are right I am somewhat a noob to linux but i learn pretty quick what with all the guides there are for it.
needless to say i have verified that I own every individual file on this system but ./start.sh still denies me.
just to add, i had thought tht maybe using the chmod method might work compared to setting the privaledge my way thought of that this morning and got no where it didnt fix the problem.
Re: [request] detailed guide on installing perfect world server on ubuntu 9.10
just to get this straight.
i have folders etc,lib,usr,hosts
now on a stright linux system do i place all these in the /root folder of my system or do i overwrite the folders in my filesystem ...
I don't think i want to add them to my file system but really it doesnt overwrite anything but the hosts file , which lampp apache fixes for itself after anyway. but still the idea of that isn't too pleasing to me. someone clear that up for me?
