All things i found about making PW private servers says i need linux (or i misunderstand it).
Is linux really required, or is there also a way to do it with windows? (windows server 2006 or 2008).

the server files will only run in a linux environment. you can run them on windows through use of an OS emulator that has linux installed , such as colinux, or vbox, vmware.
perfect world is designed for Red Hat Linux.
fedora works.
ubuntu crashes maps every so often.
depending on how similar they are to red hat the more reliable they are.
