Honestly though, we'll need a lot of packet sniffers out there if we want to do a newer game. I'm all for it, I've been wanting Rz to get new stuff in here for awhile.
I'm pretty sure many people are as willing as you are. I just hope its something new and innovative which will hopefully make RaGEZONE the pinnacle of development of that game.
Aye I bet others are aswell, but I have a tried and tested track record with RaGEZONE so I feel I am in a good position to get something new started.

CS:S I got a 12 slot private server that some regulars from the Hidden Section play, whether or not it would be accepted onto ragezone as official is another story..
It's rife with development seeing as valve released their development kit for free, for anyone that owns any game of theirs.
Also, servers are rife, and come in all shapes and sizes, and we already have active server for us regulars to play on, and so far we have custom maps mods etc and it is fantastic fun.
Seeing as games like SA:MP which aren't technically MMORPGs (and I was involved in) are allowed, why not bring on some CSS development, it's something I'd really love to be a part of and see happen on ragezone.
The game can be downloaded for free although I don't recommend it and you can't join our server, but it does still allow development and server hosting, therefore, it being a paid game makes no difference to the development.
If you're going to write a pserver for a game (mmo/etc) and it's going to pay, then I'd be in. Can't be bothered donating time these days, homes don't usually buy themselves and the likes.
Not CSS. If anything, TF2 or HL2DM.
CSS's default world settings are shit, and there are too many QQ noobs.

....yeah it really does exist. But anyway, answered OP thanks for the thread good chance to get a bit of a census.
Yeah, I mean I am wanting to bring something new to RZ, I can just throw a few dollars to one side to get a 24 man CSS server and not do much other than let some custom maps be played.

Yeah, rebuild the RZ server name brand - maybe if this pans out we start looking at the CSS thing, its a good game and it still attracts a large userbase.

The biggest thing is going to be stability in host. If you can only pull a 93% monthly uptime excluding intended maintenance, people go away.
Good hosting costs $. Good hosting that doesn't bomb when some skiddy points a botnet at it costs $$$$$. Considering that RZ has been being molested by such attacks, I'd expect the pservers would as well, so there's always that.
I used to run RZ RYL which was targetted by one such person using a botnet. It effectively destroyed the server so yeah I agree its something that needs to be looked at.

I'll call for you to decide what you wanna host if you're developing. If not, host whatever game you can find dedicated developers for.
No point hosting a game with little to no development due to the lack of interest. If you develop actively, you probably also play the game and understand what users want most + know about balancing the game.
For me, I don't mind any game.
It'd be nice to get a few private servers up in various games like CS:S, SA:MP and such, but I'm all for a new game. There aren't many decent ones under or up for development.

Problem with a San Andreas:Multiplayer server is, the game costs and to avoid costs it involves warez which MentaL has said is a big no-no. As fun as it can be and as much as I'd love to have a GTA server that isn't run by a tool (remember Diseased?), maybe not what DTB is looking for.
Ach, well that's shit. I could say the same thing about CS:S though.
I would love to see a SA:MP server as I've generally never really got into the game but I've always wanted to. Are the RZ servers really popular?
Doesn't have to be an MMO, doesn't have to be a constant world game. It needs to be fun, and it needs to attract enough players to make the cost of running the server seem worthwhile.
So far we've got:
- Guild Wars - which if possible is a fair shout.
- Counter-Strike: Source - sounds good, but in practice there is thousands of them out there.
- Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas Multiplayer. Again, been done to death and GTAIV is out there now with inbuilt stable multiplayer.
I vote for CS but not source CS1.6 NON-STEAM is popular then source, and for a GTA server make it SAMP not IV ( cuz i don't have the game QQ)
Throwing it out there, what about something completely new? Like using one of these engines and a few developers to develop an RZ Only Game?

Very good idea , but please don't make it mmo game or fantasy game , make it a war game with some nice graffics , like CS or COD , i hope we have some good devs that can do that work nicelly.

Game Design document needs to be drawn up, which I could possibly do. Before that consultation will need to be made to see what type of game is going to be made, then what features the team feels is realistically possible to implement.
Once document is drawn up, the engine will be chosen, if not chosen, built. From there the game is built.
Lots of planning, lots of work.
Nah, there are too many FPS games which run on similar game engines. We need to go back to basics here and build on that.
And yeah, they were just a few that were on my mind, and they're pretty much the major ones.

Whether the game is RPG, MMORPG, FPS etc is the major factor. From there a name is spawned and basically grows.

A few lads made a Metal Slug remake. That was pretty cool.
We should go with simple very simple but addictive and enjoyable. Nothing too big or fancy until we're sure that it's not going to die out and then we can develop a bigger version.
Sort of what Jagex did with RuneScape? Started small and minimal with 2D playing, and have now grown much bigger.

Don't wanna burst anyone's bubble but all the 'successful' games out there have cost millions of dollars to develop... I don't think we have that kind of money, also.. Can't we revive RZ Adventures - XIYA? Without Kaoii :( But still, could we? If that game got to multiplayer... oh lawdy i'd play :P:
I'm sure our game won't reach that standard though, so there's no need to worry. Plus, we'll probably just allow people in and around the forum to just chip in coding/graphics/etc, so I don't think a huge cost will be accumulated, if theres a cost at all.

I play so little these days I have no clue which game I'd like to see, and probably wouldn't play any for longer than a week.
Making a RZ brand game does sound fun, heck, after coming here for over 6 years it feels just right. If many old faces join, you can count me in as a designer and dev.
If it's something that makes money, I'd feel ripped off if the money went anywhere else but to the devs. Sure, RZ hosting and such should be paid out of it, though.

You're right also, RaGEZONE is massive, it's huge and I feel it's about time it had something of it's own, a branded game developed by members of the community for members of the community.

If I were to somehow help out and develop, I'd expect not a single penny to be fair. I think everybody deserves a cut though if it starts to make millions. :ott1:
Making something new is several orders of magnitude more difficult than making an emulator for something..
What RaGEZONE needs is something more than an emulator though.

That's pretty obvious. However, I think of it as a fun hobby, and as long as it feels fun and interesting I don't mind working without a pay, just so I'm not free labor for someone else.
The same, it's something to do and give back to the community. You make money afterwards that's another thing, and that's something which I can handle.

That's what I have been trying to sayyyyyyyyyy. RZ Adventures: XIYA.
A new game just simply isn't practical unless it's some 2D crap or using an existing and freely licensed 3D engine with shitty looking art (maps/models/textures/shaders/etc) and stock music. In those kinds of games it's writing that wins out, and gameplay modes that are extremely long lasting (almost any good multiplay really).
If - this is a big if - a project like this got underway it'd be using a engine that is out on the market already. I don't plan on undertaking something like this without experienced people so I expect the outcome to be decent and fun and a unique point to RaGEZONE.
It's from before your time; I'm not 100% sure but Kaoii made a 2d game back in the day, called 'RaGEZONE Adventures: XIYA'. I assume you're sceptical about it from hearing this but trust me; it was surprisingly fun and I would've really loved to see it in multiplayer but it never got continued :(
Maybe it's laying around in some archives somewhere on the webz.
ahahaha what a great imagination, if you are capable of developing a game (and by the way it's not a 1 man job, neither is what you listed half of what makes a game) then you don't do it for free. As much as I would love to see something like that, silly expectations like that only lead to dissapointment.
Well I've never developed a game to be fair, so I'm not sure what's required. I'm pretty sure somebody has developed a game of their own by themselves, completely free of charge.
